Molecular genetics and mechanisms of pigmentation and melanoma
No full textEver since man domesticated the first wild animals several thousand years ago, many species have been living in close relationship with humans, being objects for our requests and wishes about any kind of phenotypic traits. As a result, we have by selective breeding created a fascinating spectrum of phenotypes within most species we have domesticated. The broad aim of this thesis has been to investigate the molecular mechanisms causing different colour and pattern phenotypes in domestic animals. In more detail, the mutation causing Greying with age and melanoma in horses and the mutations leading to the Sex-linked barring feather pattern in the domestic chicken have been studied. Grey horses are born any colour, but gradually loose their hair pigmentation and usually become white by the age of 6-8 years. The pigmentation loss only affects the hair, and the skin stays dark throughout life. Melanomas and vitiligo-like depigmentation frequently occur among Grey horses, and it is claimed that 70-80% of Grey horses older than 15 years have melanocytic lesions. The Sex-linked barring pattern in chickens is characterized by black and white stripes on the feathers. Similar barring patterns are found among many bird species, such as the peregrine falcon and the zebra finch. The mutation causing Sex-linked barring has previously been mapped to the q arm of chromosome Z, which explains why the homogametic (ZZ) sex in chickens, males, develop a broader barring pattern. In this thesis, the mutations causing both traits are identified, and their functional properties are investigated. The mutation causing Greying with age and melanoma in horses was identified as a 4.6 kb intronic duplication in the gene STX17, not previously linked either to pigmentation or melanoma. Moreover, it could be shown that the mutation in STX17 has an elevated copy number in melanoma DNA, and that it contains a strong melanocyte specific activating regulatory element residing a MITF binding site. This finding sheds further light on the intriguing molecular processes of melanoma development. The mutations linked to Sex-linked barring could be mapped to the CDKN2A/B tumour suppressor locus, a genetic region commonly associated with familiar forms of melanoma and also implied in the molecular mechanisms of pigmentation regulation

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Combined Access Barring Scheme for IoT Devices Using Bayesian Estimation
No full textThis paper focuses on proposing a new access barring scheme for internet of things (IoT) devices in long term evolution advanced (LTE/LTE-A) and 5G networks. Massive number of IoT devices communicating simultaneously is one of the hallmarks of the future communication networks such as 5G and beyond. The problem of congestion also comes with this massive communication for which access barring is one of the solutions. So, it is required that sophisticated access barring techniques are designed such that the congestion is avoided and these devices get served in less time. Legacy access barring schemes like access class barring (ACB) and extended access barring (EAB) suffer from high energy consumption and high access delay respectively. However, our proposed scheme provides less energy consumption than ACB while giving less access delay than EAB. The proposed scheme maximizes the success probability while reducing the number of collisions at the same time. The scheme is based on an approximation of the number of IoT devices based on details available to the eNodeB of the number of idle, successful and collided preambles. Extensive Matlab simulations are performed to validate our claims and analysis

No full textABSTRAKSI: Sort Message Service (SMS) yaitu layanan pesan singkat adalah salah satu mobile communication Sevice atau layanan komunikasi perangkat bergerak yang sangat populer sekarang ini. Selain efektif, biaya yang murah menjadi pertimbangan untuk menggunakan layanan ini. Terkadang dengan alasan tertentu pengguna mobile communication khususnya handphone (hp) menginginkan pembatasan terhadap penerimaan sms di hpnya. Untuk mengakomodasi kebutuhan tersebut maka akan di bangun suatu aplikasi yang dapat membatasi sms yang bisa masuk pada hp milik seseorang. Selanjutnya aplikasi ini akan disebut dengan Sms Barring. Setelah layanan ini diaktifkan maka pengguna layanan dapat membatasi sms yang bisa masuk pada hp miliknya yaitu dengan cara mengaktifkan layanan berupa pembatasan seluruh sms yang datang atau hanya nomor-nomor hp tertentu saja yang dibatasi sehingga tidak akan terbaca oleh penerima. Sebaliknya, pengguna juga dapat menghentikan layanan ini dengan cara menonaktifkan layanan. Kemudian dapat dibuktikan bahwa jumlah nomor yang tersimpan pada basis data nomor dibatasi berpengaruh terhadap performansi sistem. Aplikasi ini dibangun dengan menggunakan Symbian C++ dan diterapkan pada hp Nokia seri 60.Kata Kunci : Mobile Communication Service, Handphone, Sms Barring.ABSTRACT: Short Message Service (SMS) is one of the most popular communications mobile services. Besides the effectiveness, the low price also becomes consideration for people to use this service. Sometimes with certain reason, communication mobile customer especially handphone (hp) want the limitation of SMS they received in their hp. Accommodating the customers needs, an application which is able to barring SMS received will be developed in customers mobile phone. This application is called SMS Barring. After this service is activated then the customer can barring the SMS receive in their Hp, that is with activating the barring of all SMS they received or only certain number in Hp is limited so that the SMS will not be readed by the user. On the other hand, the user also can stop this service with service inactivate. Then can be proved that amount of address on database have an effect on to system performance.
