Impact Of Node Failure In Optical Packet Switching Metropolitan-area Networks
In this paper we study the behavior of traffic in Metropolitan Optical Packet Switching Networks, using computer modeling and simulations. We analyze network performance and the impact of node failure compared with the impact of link failure and normal operation. Mesh topologies are chosen with node configurations (2x2, 3x3, and 4x4, input-output) and parameters packet loss fraction and average number of hops are adopted for performance metrics. We observe that node failure is only slightly more damaging than the more loaded link failures we have previously considered. © 2011 IEEE.714718Develder, C., Stavdas, A., Neri, F., Solé-Pareta, J., Le Sauze, N., Demeester, P., Benchmarking and Viability Assessment of Optical Packet Switching for Metro Networks (2004) J. Optical Packet Switching Access Networks Using Time And Space Contention Resolution Schemes
Optical packet switching offers the possibility of increased granularity and more effective use of bandwidth in large capacity systems, on a scale of Tb/s. The natural integration of optical packet switching in photonic technology opens up the possibility of packet switching in transparent optical channels, where the packets remain from end-to-end in the optical domain, without the necessity of optoelectronic conversion. Therefore, the optical switching must be robust enough in order to provide conditions to solve the contention between optical packets in access networks, where the traffic is less aggregated. This work presents alternative schemes of contention resolution between optical packets to be used in access networks, without using the already established, but more expensive, wavelength conversion of WDM systems. © Springer-Verlag 2004.3124272281Bannister, J., Touch, J., Willner, A., Suryaputra, S., How many wavelengths do we really need? Innovative Architectures For Ops/obs Advanced Photonic Networks
In this work we present new architectures having new sets of link connections for mesh network (Manhattan St. type) and a for ring topology, with both using unidirectional and (one case) bi-directional links. For the comparative analysis we adopt two types of optical node configurations for both ring and mesh topologies, using 2x2 and 3x3 input/output connections. Other node functionalities such as add/drop do not impact directly on optical layer performance considered here. The traffic was analyzed in these new network topologies in terms of average number of hops and throughput under uniform traffic distribution. Our results are based on analytic studies and computer simulations. ©2009IEEE.673677Yoo, S.J., Optical Packet and Burst Switching Technologies for the Future Photonic Internet (2006) J. A Study In Photonic Switched Networks Considering Link Failure And Ingress Buffering
In this paper we study the behavior of traffic in Metropolitan Access Optical Networks with technologies of optical packet/burst switching (OPS/OBS), using computer modeling and simulations. We analyze network performance and the impact of link failure when electronic buffering at ingress (client input) to optical network is implemented. Mesh and ring topologies are chosen and parameters packet loss fraction and average number of hops are adopted for performance metrics. The use of minimum electronic buffering at ingress is demonstrated to improve access to the optical layer, and necessary to keep the packet loss fraction low and throughput high with low latency. We also show that optical buffering is not necessary for adequate network performance. © 2011 IEEE. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Optical Packet/burst Switching Node Architecture With Wdm Hierarchical Issues
Applications with optical packet switching (OPS and OBS) offer potentially large capacity due to significant increase in optical channel granularity and use. Thus, simulation studies on optical packet/burst switching node architectures, as presented here, are an important strategy to evaluate new designs, joined with provision of quality of service (QoS) and differentiated traffic support. This work presents an innovative node architecture for both OPS/OBS metro-access optical nodes, which has issues on WDM for the hierarchical network core integration. © 2007 IEEE.351355Barbosa, F.R., Maia, D., Pezzolo, L., Sachs, A.C., Salvador, M.R., Optical Packet Switching Node for Metro-Access Networks (2003) Proceed. 29th. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Electronic Interfaces For Optical Packet Switching And Routing
We demonstrate novel electronic circuits to identify, route and solve contention between optical packets having frequency tone header. The detection processing times of the electronic circuits are very short, the header recognition circuit (HRC) response time itself is 40 ns and the logical decision circuit (LDC) is 40 ns, too. Both circuits use fast TTL technology. The switching, routing and contention solution is performed packet-by-packet without degradation or loss of packets. This system is applicable to future photonic switch with all-optical packets network.3133Chiaroni, D., Status and Applications of Optical Packets Switching (2001) ECOC'2001, , paper WeM.1, Amsterdam, SeptBlumenthal, D.J., Photonic Packet and All-Optical Label Switching Techniques and Technologies (2002) OFC'2002, , paper WO3, Anaheim, USA, MarchBarbosa, F.R., Sachs, A.C., Ferreira, R.S., Furtado, M.T., New Photonic System for Optical Packet Switching (2002) 6th World Multiconference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics - SCI'2002, , Orlando FL, USA, JulyMaia Jr., D., Barbosa, F.R., Pezzolo, L., Sachs, A.C., Optical Packet Switching and Routing using in-band frequency header labeling (2003) IMOC'2003, , to be presented, Iguaçu PR, Brasil, Sep
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
