Advanced Signal Processing Algorithms for Cardiorespiratory Monitoring in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
This chapter provides basic principles aimed at understanding advanced engineering and mathematical methods that could potentially provide effective assisting technology in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The included material by no means represents a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art in the field, but purposely travels along a very narrow line in order to offer the reader a specific pathway needed to understand some of the main conceptual and practical steps to be considered from a biomedical engineering point of view. The chapter is organized in compact paragraphs aimed at threading lines guiding the reader through a narrowly selected bibliographic body of knowledge. The selected material is divided in four sections. The first three sections concisely outline the three main research lines and connect the reader to Clinical, Physiological, and Methodological Background respectively. The last fourth section provides a methodological outline of a specific exemplary approach based on a physiological model of heartbeat dynamics defined by using the statistical theory of point processes
A model for a light graviphoton
We describe an explicit N=2 supergravity model where an arbitrarily light vector boson ("graviphoton") is coupled, with typical gravitational strength to matter hypermultiplets, possessing unbroken gauge interactions as well. We discuss: i) the mass and the couplings of the graviphoton; ii) the consistency of its coupling to a mass generated by the Higgs mechanism; iii) the actual composition of the graviphoton in terms of the original vector fields of the Lagrangian (e.g. its mixing with the photon)
Ultrastructural aspects of female supplementary reproductive ovary in K. flavicollis (Fabr.) (Isoptera: Kalotermitidae)
The ovary of female supplementary reproductives is constituted by panoistic-type ovarioles containing a linear array of germ cells in successive stages of differentiation. Each ovarioles is covered with an acellular sheet, tunica propria, and can be divided on the basis of its cytological features into: terminal filament, germarium and vitellarium. The oogonia and ealy meiotic oocytes are arranged in nest surrounded by flat somatic cells which, successively, envelop each growing oocytes, forming a thin monolayered sheet
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Flavour physics and flavour symmetries after the first LHC phase
Based on flavour symmetries only, there are two ways to give rise to an effective description of flavour physics in the quark sector close to the CKM picture: one is based on U(3) q × U(3) u × U(3) d (or equivalent) and the other on U(2) q × U(2) u × U(2) d (or equivalent). In this context we analyze the current status of flavour physics measurements and we compare their impact, in the specific case of supersymmetry, with the direct searches of new particles at the LHC, present or foreseen. © 2014 The Author(s)
