La apuesta independiente de la animación europea, a través de El pan de la guerra
[EN] The Breadwinner (Nora Twomey, 2017) is an Irish-Canadian film by Cartoon Saloon, with the cooperation of Angelina Jolie and Jordan Peele as executive producers. The movie adapts Deborah Ellis’ best-seller novel, published in 2002, which has won several literary awards, and it was inspired by numerous interviews to women and girls living at refugee camps of Pakistan and Russia. The Breadwinner tells the story of Parvana, an Afghan Young girl who pretends to be a boy to be able to support her family during the Taliban regime. The animated film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017, and it has been nominated as Best Animation Movie for the 2018 Oscar® Awards. For the following article we have had one of the designers and concept artists of Cartoon Saloon, the Valencian Rosa Ballester, who explains the film’s production process in conversation with Nora Twomey (director of the film) and Fabian Erlinghäuser (animation director).[ES] El pan de la guerra (The Breadwinner, Nora Twomey, 2017) es una película irlandesa-canadiense de Cartoon Saloon, que ha tenido como productora ejecutiva a Angelina Jolie y Jordan Peele. DATASE_Ochratoxin A defective Aspergillus carbonarius mutants as potential biocontrol agents
This dataset is made available under a CC-BY license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Aspergillus carbonarius is one of the main species responsible for wine, coffee and cocoa toxin contamination. The main mycotoxin produced by this fungus, ochratoxin A (OTA), is a secondary metabolite categorized as a possible carcinogen because of its significant nephrotoxicity and immunosuppressive effects. A polyketide synthase gene (otaA) encodes the first enzyme in the OTA biosynthetic pathway. It is known that the filamentous fungi, growth, development and production of secondary metabolites are interconnected processes governed by global regulatory factors whose encoding genes are generally located outside the gene clusters involved in the biosynthesis of each secondary metabolite, such as the veA gene, which forms part of the VELVET complex. Different fungal strains compete for nutrients and space when they infect their hosts, and safer non-mycotoxigenic strains may be able to outcompete mycotoxigenic strains during colonization. To determine the possible utility of biopesticides based on the competitive exclusion of mycotoxigenic strains by non-toxigenic ones, we used A. carbonarius ΔotaA and ΔveA knockout mutants. Our results showed that during both in vitro growth and infection of grapes, non-mycotoxigenic strains could outcompete the wild-type strain. Additionally, the introduction of the non-mycotoxigenic strain led to a drastic decrease in OTA during both in vitro growth and infection of grapes. The work was partially cofunded by Projects RTI2018-093392-A-I00 and PID2021-126005OB-I00 (MCIN /AEI /10.13039/501100011033 / FEDER, UE) and by Project AGROALNEXT/2022/028 (GVA, PRTR, MRR, NextGenerationEU). The life and Story of Rosa Maria:Brazil's First Black Author
Thirty years after the release of Rosa Maria Egipcíaca's biography by Brazilian historian LuizMott in 1993, one of Rio de Janeiro's strongest carnival samba schools, Unidos do Viradouro, finally brought her name into Brazilian mainstream culture. Rosa Maria is Brazil's first black author, having written a book and letters of prophecy. Her story is global in both space and time. In her journey, Rosa traversed three different continents - Africa, South America and Europe - interconnected by the colonial ties of transatlantic slavery and Catholicism, and though she lived in the eighteenth century, her 'afterlife' extends until today, as will be described through the context of Brazil's carnival
Sub Rosa
In this stunning debut novel, Amber Dawn subverts and transgresses the classic hero's quest adventure to create a dark post-feminist vision not for the faint of heart. Sub Rosa's reluctant heroine is known as "Little," a teenaged runaway unable to remember her real name; in her struggle to get by in the world, she stumbles upon an underground society of ghosts and magicians, missing girls and would-be johns: a place called Sub Rosa. Not long after she is initiated into this family of magical prostitutes, Little is called upon to lead Sub Rosa through a maze of feral darkness, both real and imagined--a calling burdened with grotesque enemies, strange allies, and memories from a foggy past.
Written with a kind of gasping urgency, Sub Rosa is a beautiful and gutsy allegory of our times, a fairy-tale-like fantasia imbued with a grave, unapologetic realness. --From publisher description.Women's literatureFictionLGBTQ+Lesbian literatur
