    Potencial ornamental de clones de batata-doce no Distrito Federal

O Brasil ocupa o 16o lugar em produção, com produtividade em torno de 14 toneladas por hectare. Além do uso da batata doce para alimentação, hoje é possível encontrar esse produto em indústrias de cosméticos, medicinal, além do uso para compor projetos paisagísticos e ornamentais. Nesse sentido o presente trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar o potencial ornamental de clones de batata-doce cultivados em campo no Distrito Federal. O experimento foi desenvolvido na Fazenda Água Limpa da Universidade de Brasília, composto por cinco clones de batata-doce, cultivados com delineamento de blocos casualizados com três repetições. Para as avaliações do potencial ornamental foi utilizado os descritores agronômicos conforme Huamán (1992), em que seis características foram avaliadas visualmente: formato de folha, cor de folha, cor do pecíolo, tipo do lóbulo de folha, tipo do limbo da flor e cor da pétala da flor. Como resultados, 80% dos clones apresentaram formato de folha lobulado, cor de folhas verde, cor de pecíolo verde, formato do limbo da flor arredondado e cor de pétalas das flores branca com roxo na base. De acordo com os descritores morfológicos dos clones estudados, todos apresentaram potencial ornamental possível de ser utilizado em projetos paisagísticos e ornamentais

    Artropodofauna e flora infestante prevalente no Aeroporto de Brasília visando o manejo de risco à aviação

    Dissertação (mestrado) — Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade de Agronomia e Medicina Veterinária, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Agronomia, 2024.Os gramados que circundam pistas de pouso e decolagem em aeroportos oferecem alimento que atraem e mantém fauna que representam risco de colisão com aeronaves. O presente trabalho determinou a comunidade de artrópodes e plantas infestantes em gramados próximos as pistas do aeroporto internacional de Brasília e avaliou a abundância das principais aves de risco. A partir dos dados de amostragem foram realizadas análises da relação composicional e espacial desses organismos com o quero-quero, Vanellus chilensis, a principal ave de risco para aviação. Foram realizadas amostragens em dois períodos distintos: seco (Julho a Outubro) e chuvoso (Fevereiro a Maio) em, nos gramados que circundam as pistas de pouso e decolagem do aeroporto. Para tal, foram dispostos 201 pontos fixos georreferenciados nas duas pistas para amostragem de plantas infestantes e para a instalação de armadilhas do tipo pit fall. Além disso, foram usados dados de observação de aves de risco de aviação disponibilizados pela equipe de gestão ambiental do aeroporto. Os dados foram empregados em análises de frequência, abundância, riqueza e diversidade das plantas e artrópodes para descrição da diversidade presente na área, bem como foram produzidas curvas de rarefação em função do número de coletas e de indivíduos coletados para identificação das diferenças entre pistas e períodos. Para avaliação do comportamento espacial foram modelados semivariogramas para o quero-quero e para as plantas e artrópodes mais frequentes em cada período e, a partir desses modelos, foram produzidos mapas de distribuição para visualizar a distribuição dos organismos nas áreas em estudo. Os mapas gerados foram utilizados como base para análise visual da sobreposição de agregação entre as espécies estudadas para cada período de coleta e pista, que pudessem ser indicativos de relações tróficas. Percebeu-se marcante aumento da abundância, riqueza e diversidade de plantas e artrópodes no período chuvoso, porém sem que houvesse diferença entre as pistas. A população do quero-quero manteve-se estável ao longo do ano, demonstrando maior preferência pela pista com maiores áreas de gramado. Insetos da família Formicidae e das ordens Coleoptera e Hemiptera foram os predominantes na área de estudo e plantas infestantes das espécies Sida rhombifolia, Eragrostis pilosa e Chamaechrista rotundifolia foram as mais predominantes. A modelagem da distribuição espacial revelou dependência espacial para a maioria dos organismos, período de estudo e pistas e a avaliação visual dos mapas de distribuição em relação à agregação revelou zonas de convergência na agregação dos três organismos (plantas, insetos e aves). Desta forma, a fim de reduzir a incidência das aves a abordagem aplicada ao aeroporto deve enfocar o manejo global das três espécies, enfatizando a adoção de medidas de controle que contribuam para a redução da densidade global de insetos e plantas infetantes. Essas medidas devem priorizar o período e locais de maior ocorrência dos organismos e enfocar a adoção de métodos biológicos e culturais tendo em vista o contexto urbano da área de interesse.The grasslands surrounding runways at airports provide food that attracts and sustains wildlife, increasing the risks of collisions with aircrafts. This study aimed to identify the community of arthropods and weed plants in grasslands near the runways of Brasília International Airport and assess the abundance of key bird species of risk to aviation. Based on sampling data, analyses were conducted on the compositional and spatial relationships between these organisms and the southern lapwing (Vanellus chilensis), the main bird species of risk to aviation. Sampling was carried out during two distinct periods: the dry period (July to October) and the rainy period (February to May) on the grasslands surrounding the airport's runways. For this purpose, 201 fixed georeferenced points were established along both runways for weed sampling, and insects were sampled through pitfall traps. Additionally, some airport crew members observed birds of risk for aviation. Information on the frequency, abundance, richness, and diversity of plants and arthropods was produced to describe the diversity present in the area. Rarefaction curves were generated based on the number of samples and individuals collected to identify differences between the runways and periods. Semivariograms were modeled for the southern lapwing and the most frequent plants and arthropods in each period for spatial behavior evaluation. From these models, distribution maps were produced to visualize the organisms' spatial distribution in the study areas. These maps were used to visually analyze the overlap in aggregation patterns among the studied species for each collection period and runway, potentially indicating trophic relationships. A significant increase in plant and arthropod abundance, richness, and diversity was observed during the rainy season, although no differences were noticed between the runways. The population of southern lapwings remained stable throughout the year, showing a preference for the runway with larger grassland areas. Insects from the family Formicidae and the orders Coleoptera and Hemiptera were predominant in the study area, while Sida rhombifolia, Eragrostis pilosa, and Chamaechrista rotundifolia were the most prevalent weed species. Spatial distribution modeling revealed spatial dependence for most organisms, study periods, and runways. Visual assessment of the distribution maps in relation to aggregation highlighted zones of convergence in the aggregation of the three organisms (plants, insects, and birds). Thus, to reduce bird presence, the approach applied at the airport should focus on Areawide integrated management of these three groups, emphasizing control measures that reduce the overall density of insects and weed plants.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
