Exploration, exploitation, and geographic diversity: A study of new entrepreneurial ventures
No full textThe smallness and newness of new entrepreneurial ventures can impede their exploratory and exploitative innovation, which makes the creation of extra-cluster ties particularly relevant. This study investigates to what extent geographic network diversity contributes to a new entrepreneurial venture’s exploration and exploitation innovation performance. Using a unique dataset of entrepreneurs’ ego networks, it was found that geographic network diversity has a positive effect on both types of innovation up to a certain point, after which geographic diversity has a negative effect. Exploitative processes reach this inflection point at a relatively low level of geographic diversity, whereas exploratory processes thrive at a higher level of geographic diversity
Geographic network diversity: How does it affect exploratory innovation?
No full textThis study examines the underexplored effect of the geographic configuration of entrepreneurs' networks on their ventures' levels of exploratory innovation. As entrepreneurs are found to engage in both proximate and distant knowledge ties, this paper's main predictor involves the geographic diversity of entrepreneurs' networks. The study theoretically develops the idea that the impact of geographic network diversity on ventures' level of exploratory innovation takes an inverted-U shape. It is also proposed that this effect is moderated by the relational configuration of entrepreneurs' networks in terms of tie strength. Analyses of data on 175 egocentric networks support the proposed ideas. Implications for interfirm network configuration, spatial lock-in, exploratory innovation and the broader space and innovation literature are also discussed

Finding value in geographic diversity through prior experience and knowledge integration: A study of ventures’ innovative performance
No full textPrior research indicates that entrepreneurs with new ventures should build knowledge networks that grant access to a variety of geographic knowledge sources if they are to enhance their innovative performance. In this article, we explore entrepreneurs’ abilities to reap the benefits of the geographical configuration of their knowledge networks. Controlling for a wide range of firm-level factors, we find that a too diverse network geographically speaking, negatively impacts innovative performance. This main effect is, however, positively moderated by entrepreneurs’ breadth of prior career experience and their ventures’ knowledge integration capability

Johnson, one of the nation’s leading medical communicators of health care information, has provided commentary on medical problems and answers for viewers since 1975. In addition to commentary on Good Morning America, Johnson provides on-air analysis of medical news for World News Tonight, Nightline and 20/20. He consults with ABC News regardingcoverage of medical news. He is also medical editor for WCVB-TV, Channel 5 in Boston.
Johnson holds joint positions in medicine at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is the founding editor of the Harvard Medical School Health Letter and co-editor of the Harvard Medical School Health Letter Book. He is also coeditor of the book, “Your Good Health,” published by Harvard Press, as well as co-author with former US Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop of the book, “Let’s Talk,” published by Zondervan in 1992.
He originally intended to join the ministry and graduated from the North Park Seminary in 1963. Two years later he decided to enter medicine. Johnson, who is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Augustana College, graduated summa cum laude from Albany Medical College and holds a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University. Robust energy transfer mechanism via precession resonance in nonlinear turbulent wave systems
No full textA robust energy transfer mechanism is found in nonlinear wave systems, which favours transfers towards modes interacting via triads with nonzero frequency mismatch, applicable in meteorology, nonlinear optics and plasma wave turbulence. We emphasise the concepts of truly dynamical degrees of freedom and triad precession. Transfer efficiency is maximal when the triads' precession frequencies resonate with the system's nonlinear frequencies, leading to a collective state of synchronised triads with strong turbulent cascades at intermediate nonlinearity. Numerical simulations confirm analytical predictions

The author concludes that M.D. Skobelev’s views were close to those of the Slavophiles, though they differed greatly on a number of key issues. They both considered that it was necessary to restore national identity, to consolidate Orthodoxy, to give up European values to the detriment of national ones, to search for the own development way instead of the western one, which was deadlock and destructive
