    Lithofacies and depositional environment spanning the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary on the New Jersey coastal plain

    The sedimentary record spanning the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K/Pg) boundary was examined in outcrop and in seven cores recovered from a 50 km long transect along the outcrop belt on the New Jersey coastal plain. The objectives were to: (1) conduct a high-resolution study of the K/Pg lithofacies, (2) document spatial and temporal changes in composition and texture of the sediments, and (3) interpret any changes in the depositional environment across this important geological boundary when a mass extinctions occurred. Analyses include core description, textural, petrographic, microprobe, and XRD analyses. Five lithofacies were interpreted in the Upper Cretaceous sediments and three lithofacies were recognized from the lowermost Paleogene deposits. Microprobe studies show the chemistry of Upper Cretaceous and lowermost Paleogene glauconite are identical (~7-8% K2O), but their color difference may suggest different redox condition. XRD analyses show the Upper Cretaceous clay contains more land-derived detritus than the lowermost Paleogene clay. The following sequence of events is interpreted from the sediment record spanning the K/Pg boundary: (1) deposition in near-shore setting and slow sedimentation in middle shelf when sea level was falling, albeit still shelfal depth; (2) deposition of K/Pg lithofacies when sea level was falling possibly creating a diastem but not a sequence boundary, per se; (3) a transgression above the K/Pg boundary; and (4) deposition in middle shelf possibly with decreased ocean productivity and a more reducing environment. There is no sedimentological evidence above the K/Pg boundary, suggesting tsunami-related deposition associated with a bolide impact. Either a tsunamite was eliminated by bioturbation, or NJCP was too far from the impact site to be affected.     Mount Penanggungan is one of the volcanoes that located in East Java Province, Indonesia, with the current status is a sleeping volcano. Although Mount Penanggungan is not active, it still make an interesting investigation in geological survey, especially to identify the lithological units, due that less researchers took place in Mount Penanggungan. Remote sensing imagery, such as Landsat 8 Satellite imagery series data has been used widely in geology for mapping lithology in general. Remote sensing provides information of the properties of the surface exploration targets that is potential in mapping lithological units. Remote sensing techniques are one of the standard procedures in exploration geology, due to it is high efficiency and low cost. Lithological mapping in Mount Penanggungan area is carried out by analisys Landsat 8 Satellite imagery data with image enhancement techniques, including RGB (red, green, blue) band composite, using band 5, 6, and 7, and band ratio using combination band 4/2, 5/6, dan 6/7. From Landsat 8 Satellite imagery, combines it with the results of surface geological mapping, showed that morphology are mountains, the lithological units are devided to 4 units, andesite boulder, tuf breccias, andesite lava, and andesite breccias

    Analysis of Hendra Virus Fusion Protein N-Terminal Transmembrane Residues

    Hendra virus (HeV) is a zoonotic enveloped member of the family Paramyoxviridae. To successfully infect a host cell, HeV utilizes two surface glycoproteins: the attachment (G) protein to bind, and the trimeric fusion (F) protein to merge the viral envelope with the membrane of the host cell. The transmembrane (TM) region of HeV F has been shown to have roles in F protein stability and the overall trimeric association of F. Previously, alanine scanning mutagenesis has been performed on the C-terminal end of the protein, revealing the importance of β-branched residues in this region. Additionally, residues S490 and Y498 have been demonstrated to be important for F protein endocytosis, needed for the proteolytic processing of F required for fusion. To complete the analysis of the HeV F TM, we performed alanine scanning mutagenesis to explore the residues in the N-terminus of this region (residues 487–506). In addition to confirming the critical roles for S490 and Y498, we demonstrate that mutations at residues M491 and L492 alter F protein function, suggesting a role for these residues in the fusion process

    Informasi yang tersedia semakin banyak di media dalam jaringan atau media massa yang juga menambah informasi yang didapat oleh pembaca, membuat peneliti tertarik melakukan riset dan penelitian ini. Akan tetapi, masih banyak masyarakat yang bingung untuk membedakan berita yang asli dan palsu. Selain itu, tujuan penelitian untuk membentuk suatu pemberitaan guna memahami cara suatu framing berita bekerja, di samping kemampuan peserta didik yang rendah dalam mengerti isi teks berita. Penggunaan metode pada penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif serta kajian pembingkaian teori Zhong Dang Pan dan Gerald M.kosicki. Akhir penelitian menghasilkan perbedaan pada media Kompas.Com dan CNN Indonesia dalam kajian framing yang terdapat pada aspek sintaksis dan tematik. Pada aspek sintaksis kompas.com menjelaskan pewartaan disertai kedamaian, sedangkan pada CNN Indonesia dalam menuliskan judulnya dengan unsur menggertak. Kedua media yaitu  Kompas.com dan CNN Indonesia telah menggunakan unsur pembangun berita (5W+1H) sehingga pemberitaan tentang ujaran kebencian Bahar bin Smith kepada Jenderal Dudung Abdurachman dapat dipahami oleh pembaca. Pemanfaatan hasil analisis disusun bahan ajar berupa modul pembelajaran dengan tujuan memudahkan guru dalam memberikan pembelajaran teks berita di SMP kelas VIII

    Popularity, media and electability: study of Alfiansyah Komeng in the election of members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in West Java / Hendra, Mudiyati Rahmatunnisa and Ratnia Solihah

    In 2024 Indonesia will again hold general elections to fill executive and legislative positions. One of the legislative member elections was to elect members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) as the institution representing each province in Indonesia. An interesting phenomenon in this election was Alfiansyah Komeng's election as a DPD member representing West Java Province, surpassing the other candidates with the highest vote acquisition of 5,399,699 votes. Using a qualitative approach and data collection techniques through literature studies, the results showed that Komeng's electability was based on popularity, integrity, people's dissatisfaction with conventional politics, photos on ballot papers and the benefits of holding elections simultaneously. Meanwhile, according to the author, the media and the message conveyed are minor factors in Komeng's choice

    Analisa Citra Satelit Penginderaan Jauh Landsat-8 Untuk Identifikasi Kondisi Geologi Wilayah Vulkanik (Studi Kasus: Gunung Penanggungan, Jawa Timur)

    Gunung Penanggungan merupakan salah satu gunungapi yang berada di wilayah Propinsi Jawa Timur, dengan kondisi hingga saat ini sedang tidak aktif. Namun demikian penyelidikan terkait kondisi geologi akan selalu menarik untuk dilakukan karena belum banyak penelitian terdahulu yang dilakukan di wilayah tersebut. Teknologi penginderaan jauh dapat digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis batuan dan sebarannya berdasarkan karakteristik visual yang terlihat pada citra penginderaan jauh. Citra satelit Landsat-8 dapat mengidentifikasi variasi batuan, struktur geologi, dan kondisi geologi lainnya berdasarkan karakteristik visualnya. Pada citra Landsat-8 telah diterapkan koreksi geometri sistematik, namun masih perlu dilakukan koreksi radiometrik karena data citra berformat Digital Number (DN). Terdapat dua jenis produk luaran citra berformat reflektan yang dihasilkan, yaitu Top of Atmosphere (TOA) atau reflektan yang tertangkap sensor dan Bottom of Atmosphere (BOA) atau reflektan pada objek yang telah terkoreksi atmosfer. Kombinasi kanal citra Landsat-8 menggunakan kombinasi kanal 5, 6, dan 7 dalam susunan kanal merah, hijau, dan biru (red green blue/RGB). Kanal 5, 6, dan 7 merupakan kanal infra merah. Citra kombinasi kanal ini akan menghasilkan citra komposit dengan warna semu (pseudocolor). Kanal ini peka terhadap perubahan jenis batuan sehingga sebaran batuan dapat diidentifikasi dari citra komposit ini. Pengamatan geologi lapangan juga dilakukan untuk merekam data kondisi geologi terkini di lokasi penelitian. Data yang didapat berupa jenis litologi, struktur geologi, pola aliran maupun bentuk morfologi. Dari pengamatan citra satelit Landsat-8 serta digabungkan dengan hasil pengamatan geologi lapangan, terlihat bahwa di daerah penelitian merupakan morfologi pegunungan, terbagi dalam puncak gunungapi (berupa daerah bekas kawah gunung), kerucut gunungapi, lereng gunung api tajam, lereng kaki gunungapi, serta perbukitan sesar. Sedangkan litologi penyusun lokasi penelitian secara umum terdiri dari 4 (empat) jenis batuan, yaitu bongkah andesit, breksi tufan, lava andesit, dan breksi andesit. Batuan tersebut merupakan produk hasil vulkanisme Gunung Penanggungan. ======================================================================================================== Mt. Penanggungan still an interesting topic to be discussed, according there are still leess researcher that make Mt. Penanggungan as an object. Remote sensing teknologi can be use to identification the unit of lithology from it visual characteristic showed in remote sensing imagery. Landsat8 imagery can identification the variance of lithology, geological structure, and others geological features. Landsat-8 satellite has had corrected geomatrically, but still need to be corrected radiometrically and atmosferically. Therea are two image output that result from it, the Top of Atmosphere (TOA) and the Bottom of Atmosphere (BOA). Band combination of Landsat-8 can use the 5, 6, and 7 band combination as red green blue (RGB). The 5, 6, and 7 bands are infra red band. This combination can produce composite image with pseudocolor. This bands can be show the change of lithology and it covered in some area. Geological field observer is make to recorded latest geological condition. The data are, lithological unit, geological structure, stream pattern, and morphology. From the unite of Landsat-8 image analysis with the geological field observer, show the mountain morphology in Mount Penanggungan, that devide into; small caldera on the top, volcanic strato, volcanic slope, volcanic foot slope, and the structural hill.     Based on the preliminary analysis conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pancung , the students' mathematical problem solving ability was still low. The low ability of students to solve mathematical problems caused by (1) teachers do not use worksheet in the learning process, (2) The learning process that has not facilitated students to construct their own knowledge. Based on this problem, researchers developed mathematical learning media based on discovery learning integrated with Inderapura culture to improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities.This research was a development research conducted with the Plomp development model. This model was carried out in 3 stages. In the first stage was the preliminary research phase and it was needs analysis, curriculum analysis, student analysis and concept analysis. In the second stage was the development or prototype phase which was designed in accordance with the integrated learning discovery model of Inderapura culture. In the third stage was the assessment phase which aimed to see the effectiveness of learning media by conducting large group field tests. The subjects of this study were the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Pancung Soal. Data collected by documentation, observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Data from observations, questionnaires and tests were analyzed quantitatively and strengthened by the results of the documentation analyzed descriptive qualitative.The results showed that mathematics learning media in the form of lesson plan andworksheet based on discovery learning integrated with Inderapura culture for grade VIII in the second semester of Junior High School were produced by fulfilling valid, practical and effective categories. Validity was tested in terms of content, usage, language and graphics. Applicable in terms of application, time, ease of use and effective in terms of potential impacts on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The conclusion was mathematics learning mediawas feasible to be used as reference material in mathematics learning, especially materials for constructing flat side spaces in gradeVIII of SMP N 2 Pancung

    STUDI LINGKUNGAN PENGENDAPAN FORMASI KALIBENG ANGGOTA KLITIKMENGGUNAKAN ANALISIS MIKROFOSIL DAN PETROGRAFI DI DESA NGLAMPIN, KECAMATAN NGAMBON, KABUPATEN BOJONEGORO, PROVINSI JAWA TIMUR

    Kabupaten bojonegoro memiliki struktur geologi yang bervariasi, masing- masing jenis keadaan struktur geologi dibagi dalam tujuh jenis yaitu plistosen fasies gunungapi, plistosen fasies sedimen, aluvium fasies gunung api, plistosen fasies sedimen, hasil gunung api kuarter tua, hasil gunung api kuarter muda dan aluvium. Keseluruhan struktur geologi di atas didominasi oleh jenis batuan dari hasil gunungapi yang mempunyai ciri serta sifat mudah lapuk dengan kecenderungan menjadi tanah subur. Berdasarkan jenis batuan tersebut Kabupaten Bojonegoro  termasuk endapan aluvium dan kuater dari gunung api, baik yang berupa kerikil, pasir, tuf, maupun lempung. Batuan ini banyak mengandung unsur hara, oleh karena itu banyak dimanfaatkan untuk lahan pertanian irigasi dan perkembangan pemukiman. Geologi di Desa Nglampin dan sekitarnya, Kecamatan Ngambon, Kabupaten Bojonegoro, Provinsi Jawa Timur memiliki variasi struktur sedimen, dengan kandungan fosil berupa perubahan dari litologi yang mencerminkan kondisi fisik batuan serta kelimpahan data biologi. Kondisi demikian menjadi dasar analisis lingkungan pengendapan. Metode yang digunakan untuk studi lingkungan pengendapan di daerah penelitian antara lain pemetaan geologi, analisis petrografi dan kandungan mikrofosil. Pada lokasi penelitian satuan litologinya terbagi menjadi 3 (tiga) satuan yaitu: Satuan Batunapal, Satuan Batupasir, dan Satuan Batupasir Tufan. Lingkungan pengendapan yang terdapat pada Satuan  Batupasir Kalibeng Anggota Klitik, berdasarkan fosil foraminifera planktonik umurnya diketahui yaitu N20 – N21(Pliosen akhir – Plistosen), terendapkan pada kedalaman 69, 54 – 73,2 m yaitu di neritik tengah. Berdasarkan fosil foraminifera plankton yang ditemukan pada Satuan  Batunapal Kalibeng Anggota Klitik, diketahui umurnya adalah (N20) Pliosen awal – akhir, terendapkan pada lingkungan neritik tengah di kedalaman 69,54 – 73,2 m
