DISTRIBUTION OF MN, FE, NI, CO, AND CU IN YOUNG SEDIMENTS ON THE PALINURO SEAMOUNT IN THE SOUTHEAST TYRRHENIAN SEA (MEDITERRANEAN)
An extensive offshore exploration campaign, aiming at identifying and evaluating the ferromanganese-bearing encrustations and micronodules discovered previously on the top sediment layers of the seamounrt, provided the means for constructing the geochemical maps of Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, Cu and of interpreting a complex metals history that in addition to ferromanganese mineralization, resulted in metal-bearing massive sulfides interpreted to be the outcome of ongoing hydrothermal activity. The data have shown meaningful associations: the first (Fe-Cu) is interpreted as being linked with the sulfides,; the second (Mn-Ni-Co), with ferromanganese bearing encrustations and micronodules. In relation to the area where sulfides were discovered, the zoning of Mn and Fe supports the idea that encrustations and micronodules are also primarily of hydrothermal origin. This interpretation is supported by using a discriminant plot. The presence of traces of ferromanganese mineralizations associated with low redox facies in depth is viewed as being caused by remobilization of previously deposited Mn mineral phases, thus posing the question that diagenetic processes may also have played a significant role in the deposition of the encrustations and micronodules
Development of new metal-based phyto-radiopharmaceuticals: diagnostic agents derived from Cur(e)cumin
Curcumin, a yellow pigment extracted from the Indian spice Curcuma longa, has been widely linked with suppression of angiogenesis, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, tumorigenesis and A-binding activities in the context of therapies for Alzheimer’s disease [1,2].
Besides, Curcumin has shown interesting binding ability towards different metal ions such as Fe(III) and Ga(III) with the involvement of its keto-enolic moiety [3]. Metal complexation triggers an increased kinetic stability and bioavailability of Curcumin in physiological conditions, reducing one of its main drawbacks in therapeutic applications.
Anyway biologically active curcuminoids have little been investigated as labelled radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis or therapy, and they represent a novelty in the field.
In this presentation we show an overview of new classes of Curcumin-based ligands with bidentate and tridentate coordinating mode, we investigate their binding ability towards Rhenium and Gallium and report a complete thermodynamic and pharmaco-kinetic study on ligands and metal complexes with the aim of developing new radiopharmaceuticals

Real-world experience with benralizumab in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma: A case series
Purpose: Severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) is characterized by high eosinophilia, severe symptoms, important comorbidities, frequent exacerbations, and poor asthma control. Benralizumab, targeting the interleukin-5 receptor alpha, proved effective in inducing rapid eosinophil depletion and amelioration of symptoms and lung function; it also allowed to reduce exacerbations and the use of oral corticosteroids (OCS). The present case series, spanning different subtypes of SEA, aimed at expanding the real-world experience with benralizumab in Italy. Patients and Methods: We collected data from SEA patients treated with benralizumab, at baseline and during treatment. We focused on the effects of benralizumab in the following conditions and endpoints: i) overlap between high-IgE and high-eosinophilic asthma; ii) presence of nasal polyposis as comorbidity; iii) corticosteroid-sparing effect; iv) patient perception. Results: Ten SEA patients (females: N=7; age range: 19–70 years) referred to 8 Italian Centers and treated with benralizumab were included, presenting with several comorbidities such as non-allergic disease (8/10), atopy (3/10), high IgE (5/10) and nasal polyposis (6/10). Overall, benralizumab yielded optimal disease control in all patients, particularly in terms of rapid clinical and functional improvement, decreased systemic steroid need (OCS therapy was completely discontinued in 7 cases) and amelioration of patient quality of life, except for 1 case, in whom other conditions not related to benralizumab therapy interfered with the patient perception. Conclusion: Our findings further support the efficacy and safety of benralizumab observed in randomized clinical trials, providing even better results for lung function improvement

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
