This is a tribute to activist, Cristina Bautista in Colombia. She was an indigenous woman working on the rights of women in her community and on land rights. The author traces Cristina's life and the Hilando pensamientos (Weaving Thoughts), the Nasa women's movement. Her activism was powerful, and Cristina was killed in 2019 by armed actors.

No full textIn the "Preface" -- the editor and author of an essay-- Cristina Giorcelli explains how, thanks to Heidegger's, Schopenhauer's and Wittgenstein's categories, Modernist American poets gave visual, phonetic, and iconic relevance and, thus, "concreteness" to language in order, on the one hand, to avoid Romantic sentimentalism and Symbolic conventionalism, and, on the other, to enhance the word's semantics and polyhedrical value. The volume is eminently interdisciplinary in that poetry is studied in relation to: philosophy, the visual arts, history, and the world of classic myth. In her essay (pp.109-139) on "A Stony Language: Zukofsky's Zadkine," Cristina Giorcelli examines a long composition by the "objectivist" poet, Louis Zukofsky who -- at a crucial time in his highly innovative career -- wrote an ekphrasis centered on a sculpture by the Russian expatriate and political refugee in the United States, Ossip Zadkine, entitled "La Prisonniere." The poem has never been examined before. The essay is a close, learned analysis of the way in which Zadkine's sculpture -- with its distortions and reversals, its cleavages, and its spatial-dynamic relationship between mass and volume -- is rendered by Zukofsky's words, rhymes, rhythm, etymological and cross-linguistic puns, metonymies, anagrams, echoes, and mythological references. Furthermore, while this analysis traces Zadkine's tie to Vladimir Tatlin's aesthetics, it illustrates Zukofsky's bond to Apollinaire, James Joyce, and Gertrude Stein, while also showing Zukofsky's extraordinary and long lasting originality and impact on contemporary poets (paramount among them, the so called L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E Poets)

To achieve this, we will address the work "Literatura não é documento" (1980), stemming from her master's research in Social Communication at UFRJ, in which the author discusses the production of educational documentaries about national writers. She covers themes such as culture and literature, documentary filmmaking, fiction, and reality, as well as touching on issues of cultural policies of the time.No estudo que aqui propomos, objetivamos discutir as ponderações críticas de Ana Cristina Cesar sobre as relações conflitantes entre a ficção e a realidade no que se refere ao cinema, mais especificamente, o documentário. Data of cost-optimal solutions and retrofit design methods for school renovation in a warm climate
No full textAbstract"Efficient Solutions and Cost-Optimal Analysis for Existing School Buildings" (Paolo Maria Congedo, Delia D’Agostino, Cristina Baglivo, Giuliano Tornese, Ilaria Zacà) [1] is the paper that refers to this article. It reports the data related to the establishment of several variants of energy efficient retrofit measures selected for two existing school buildings located in the Mediterranean area. In compliance with the cost-optimal analysis described in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and its guidelines (EU, Directive, EU 244,) [2,3], these data are useful for the integration of renewable energy sources and high performance technical systems for school renovation. The data of cost-efficient high performance solutions are provided in tables that are explained within the following sections.The data focus on the describe school refurbishment sector to which European policies and investments are directed. A methodological approach already used in previous studies about new buildings is followed (Baglivo Cristina, Congedo Paolo Maria, D׳Agostino Delia, Zacà Ilaria, 2015; IlariaZacà, Delia D’Agostino, Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo; Baglivo Cristina, Congedo Paolo Maria, D’Agostino Delia, Zacà Ilaria, 2015; Ilaria Zacà, Delia D’Agostino, Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo, 2015; Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo, IlariaZacà, Delia D’Agostino,2015) [4–8]. The files give the cost-optimal solutions for a kindergarten (REF1) and a nursery (REF2) school located in Sanarica and Squinzano (province of Lecce Southern Italy). The two reference buildings differ for construction period, materials and systems.The eleven tables provided contain data about the localization of the buildings, geometrical features and thermal properties of the envelope, as well as the energy efficiency measures related to walls, windows, heating, cooling, dhw and renewables. Output values of energy consumption, gas emission and costs are given for a financial and a macro-economic analysis.This data article provides 288 and 96 combinations for REF1 and REF2, respectively. The output values are obtained using the software ProCasaClima 2015v.2.0

No full textIn The Genres of Rhetorical Speeches in Greek and Roman Antiquity, Cristina Pepe offers a complete overview of the concept of speech genre within ancient rhetoric. By analyzing sources dating from the 5th-4th century BC, the author proves that the well-known classification in three rhetorical genres (deliberative, judicial, epideictic), introduced by Aristotle, was rooted in the debate concerning the forms and functions of the art of persuasion in classical Athens. Genres play a leading role in Aristotle’s Rhetoric, and the analysis of considerable sections of the treatise shows profound links between the characterization of the rhetorical genres and Aristotelian philosophy as a whole. Finally, the volume explores the developments of the theory of genres in Hellenistic and Imperial rhetoric
Facial Uplift: Plastic Surgery, Cosmetics, and the Retailing of Whiteness in the Work of Maria Cristina Mena
No full textThis article analyzes how Mexican American author María Cristina Mena’s short magazine fiction boldly illustrates the emerging U.S. beauty industry as effectively producing whiteness for sale in the neocolonial marketplace. Her representations of Mexican women’s use of cosmetics articulate how the beauty industry both lends structure to and is structured by the idea of race; at the same time, she reminds her audience that the impact of beauty products and services is in large part determined by the political and economic context of the goods themselves. Through the techniques of role reversals, character development and dramatic irony, Mena’s stories portray the U.S. beauty industry as a dynamic trade that exports new forms of whiteness across its southern border. Far from depicting Mexican women as passive consumers in the neocolonial marketplace, however, Mena shows how beauty products and services can be appropriated as limited yet potent acts of resistance.This article was published as Schuller, Kyla.
