Ukraine is a "border" society, situated culturally and socio-politically between Eurasian and Euro-Atlantic poles of attraction. The influence of these two distinct cultures can be seen throughout Ukrainian society, but particularly in its migration patterns. In this book, Dr Hab. Y. Bilan analyses external migration from Ukraine using the system analysis approach combining econometric analysis and statistical modelling, historiographical and institutional analyses along with quantitative and qualitative sociological analysis with special attention to media discourse and congregational, demographic, gender and regional dimensions.Includes bibliographical references (pages 259-283) and index.Ukraine is a "border" society, situated culturally and socio-politically between Eurasian and Euro-Atlantic poles of attraction. Získané výsledky zároveň potvrzují nutnost dalšího pronikání vědeckého výzkumu do aplikované oblasti pro lepší pochopení nového paradigmatu ekonomického rozvoje podniků s posílením role sociální a environmentální dimenze. The functioning and development of an enterprise are always characterized by changes in its internal environment and this occurs in a changing environment, that is the external environment. Moreover, changes in the internal environment of the enterprise are mainly due to changes in environmental factors and are actually a reaction to them. The combination and interaction of such changes can increase the risks in the activities of an enterprise and reduce its efficiency, or vice versa strengthen the competitive position in the case of timely and adequate response to environmental challenges. If the challenge is accepted, entrepreneurs assess the consequences and use the available resources, transforming internal weaknesses into strengths, which creates a solid basis for further development, finding new answers to future inevitable changes. Such changes, which require innovative and urgent business responses, including through the improvement or creation of new management processes and systems, are a much more effective driver of enterprise development, compared to planned changes under the conditions of relative stability and the use of economic growth factors. These aspects are related to the research dimensions presented by the author as selected problematic issues of enterprise development under the conditions of changes in the environment they function. The author’s research focuses on the processes of identification of changes, their classification, systematization and the study of the direction and intensity of the impact on the development of enterprises; formation of strategic responses of the enterprise to changes that allow developing competitive advantages and responding to the challenges of the external environment through the implementation of innovative solutions and the development of successful business ideas; assessment of the consequences of changes in the environment of the enterprise (with special attention to the development of internal management systems and taking into account the requirements of sustainable development). A special direction of the author’s work is the methodology of assessing the reverse impact of enterprise development on the competitiveness of the economy, taking into account the influence of factors of sustainability, human development, economic freedom, business regulations, support for innovation. Part of the author’s research, illustrated in this lecture on the basis of current data on the activities of enterprises in the European Union, confirms the importance of innovative changes in entrepreneurship for the development of a competitive economy as a whole. In this area of research, the author pays special attention to the development of social entrepreneurship, green entrepreneurship, creative industries, which are considered as responsible business practices that allow finding answers to changes in the environment, while meeting society’s expectations for sustainable development. A special part of the lecture is a presentation of the importance of the research topic for its further development, the creation of a multidisciplinary platform related to the implementation of sustainability requirements in research of enterprise development in a constantly changing business environment and benefits for teaching and practice

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Recruiting strategic human capital from MNCs-Does hiring MNC managers enable exporting in domestic firms?

Exporting is a central growth strategy for most firms and managers with international experience are instrumental for export decisions. We suggest that such managers can be hired from Multinational Corporations (MNCs). We integrate theory from strategic human capital research into models explaining export decisions. We theorize that hiring managers from MNCs increases the odds of domestic firms to start exporting and this effect depends on the similarities between hiring firms and MNCs. We hypothesize that young firms will benefit comparatively less from hiring MNC managers. In contrast, firms with internationally diverse workforces and with high degrees of hierarchical specialization will benefit the most from hiring MNC managers. We test and support these hypotheses for 474,926 domestic firms in Sweden, which we observe between 2007 and 2015

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
