    BIOMETRIC AND MORHOLOGIC OBSERVATIONS ON PRUNUS ARMENIACA L. ‘MAMAIA’ (ROSACEAE) LEAVES

    The paper discloses a research model of leaf investigation, based on biometrical measurements and morphological observations. There are only a few examples of this type of biometrical investigation and analysis model applied on spontaneous plants leaves in literature. The article comprises biometrical and morphologic investigations on a cultivar species Prunus armeniaca L. ‘Mamaia’ leaves. The measurements and observations were performed on 40 mature leaves of the studied species, including linear measurements, percentage ratio, angular measurements and the leaf surface as well. The biometric measurements were the basis of a mathematical calculation of the average values on the studied species.

    The paper presents histo-anatomical aspects of the vegetative organs (adventitious root, rhizome, scape and leaf) of a perennial herb, native to the swampy regions of Japan and Taiwan namely Cyperus alternifolius Rottb.It belongs to Cyperaceae family. In our country the plant is known as an ornamental plant. The material fixation and processing was done according to the usual protocol of the vegetal morphology and anatomy Laboratory belonging to the Natural Sciences Department of the our faculty. The adventitious root has a primary monocot structure with a developed aerenchymcreated by lyses of cell walls. The rhizome vascular system consists of amphivasalcollateral bundles to the center and peripheral few bundles.The scape is well-developed with epidermis, hypodermis and a number of air chambers. The leaf mesophyll ishomogenous, represented spongy tissue. In the mesophyll are embedded few poor developed vascular bundles.The aim of this study is bring some new characteristics to complete the anatomical structure of adventitious root, rhizome, scape and leaf of this species

    SOME GENERAL ANATOMCAL ASPECTS OF FICUS BENJAMINA L. CV DANIELLE (MORACEAE) LEAF

    The paper presents an anatomical study concerning the leaf structure (petiole and blade) of a well-known Ficus species with ornamental value Ficus benjamina L. cv Danielle. The outermost layers of cells are rectangular, followed by a differentiated cortex and a fascicular vascular system, represented by phloem and xylem elements. The bifacial and hipostomatic blade upper epidermis is followed by a one-layered hypodermis with lithocysts and cystoliths to the upper and lower epidermis. The mesophyll is heterogeneous. The lower epidermis continuity is interrupted by anisocytic stomata.The mid rib possesses arcs I and III of conductive tissues of the vascular system. Remarkable is the presence of the apparently medullary leptocentric bundles. Laticifers and oxalate crystals are present in the petiole and around the mid rib vascular elements. The thick cuticle with epicuticular wax, the lignification elements and the presence of hypodermis are probably anatomical features of the plant adaptation to xerophytic environments.

    The paper presents a research model of leaf investigation, based on biometrical measurements and morphological observations. In literature, there are onlyfew studies concerning the biometrical investigation and analysis applied on spontaneous and cultivar plants leaves. The article comprises biometrical investigations on 3 PrunusamygdalusBatsch. (almond) cultivated ‘Tohani` forms (cf)(‘Tohani P1/7` – Row 1; ‘Tohani P23` – Row 3 şi ‘Tohani 13` – Row 16) leaves. The measurements included: linear measurements, percentage ratios, angular measurementsand other measurements such as the number of teeth/cm, the number semi-sum of secondary pairs of veins  and the the leaf surface through which it was possible to determine the size class. The biometric measurements were the basis of a mathematical calculation formua of the average values on the studied genotype. Based on the biometric measurements it could make a more complete morphological characterization of the leaves of this almond cultivars plants

    The paper presents a comparative study concerning the leaf anatomy of two ornamentally by leaves varieties of Coleus blumei Benth.: Coleus blumei ‘Black Dragon` and C. blumei ‘Violet Tricolor`. The comparative study discloses both similarities and differences in the leaf anatomical structure of the two Coleus species. Anatomically, the leaves of the studied species are quite similar in the basic structure but differences appear concerning the petiole shape, the non glandular and glandular trichomes types, diversity, structure and density on the petiole and lamina surface, the number of vascular bundles in the petiole. Both species have a bifacial leaf and a homogenous, hypostomatic mesophyll

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
