Full Employment and High Growth in Europe - A New Cycle of Reforms to Play a Leading Role in the New World Economy
Web-gis storico-archeologico della Val di Vara
The “Tra Monti” project concerns a set of Municipalities in “Val di Vara” (La Spezia, IT). The goal
is to collect archeological and architectural data about the area of study, as well as to build a sort of
“oral memory” in order to promote the cultural heritage of the area and for scientific purposes. The
director of the project is the University of Pisa which has promoted a collaboration between
historical, archeological and IT experts. A devasting flood just during the activity, which destroyed
cultural goods documented some days before, stressed the goal of the project.
We designed and build a web site to manage and publish the information we collected. The web site
uses only OS and Free SW components; some web 2.0 functions are available and an important GIS
part is present.
The spirit of the project is sympathetic to the actual technological context, whose opportunities
suggest to consider the territory as a mix of “objects” and “people”. Both experts in the universities
and local people on the territory can give a contribution in enriching the DataBase with new data
and a knowledge contribution with their different particular skills
Genoa, Florence and the Mediterranean: New Perspectives on the Return to Gold in the 13th Century
1252 is known as the date for the return to gold in Western Europe : in that year Genoa and Florence began to produce their gold coins, opening a new era in Western European monetary history. African, Islamic, Byzantine, Crusader gold coins, however, never ceased to circulate within the Mediterranean. By considering all possible connections between East and West, this article provides new insights on long-debated problems related to the 13th century ‘ back to gold’, namely the chronology and the identification of the first Genoese gold coins, and the rise of the gold florin of Florence.1252 est la date de référence pour le retour à l’or en Occident : c’est l’année où la frappe de monnaies d’or à Gênes et à Florence ouvre une nouvelle période de l’histoire monétaire de l’Occident médiéval.
The paper presents the work of a research team composed by scholars, researchers and graduates of the University of Pisa and CNR. The team aims to create a WebGIS of the Low Lunigiana (Tuscany) in the Middle Ages that could be useful for different users: local administrators, tourists, inhabitants and researchers.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
