No full text
New antioxidant polyamide was prepared by total immersion in active extract for 48 h. Its antioxidant performance was tested using DPPH (IC50 = 270 ± 21 μg/g) and ORAC (1.52 μmol Trolox/g). In vivo study was done using fresh minced meat stored at 4 °C and analysed after 0, 6, 13, 19, 23 days. After 23 days metmyoglobin (MetMbBK = 31.3 ± 2.9% and MetMbAOX = 25.9 ± 0.8%), CIE L*a*b* (a*BK = 15.0 ± 0.4 and a*AOX = 16.6 ± 0.3) and TBARS (MDABK = 0.0060 ± 0.0003 μg/g and MDAAOX = 0.0044 ± 0.0002 μg/g) showed an improvement of meat shelf life. The results showed that this active film protected meat during 23 days. Migration study to food simulants was done by UPLC®-QqQ-MS and UPLC®-ESI-Q-TOF-MSE. A decrease of oligomers migration (for caprolactam n = 3: BK = 0.050 ± 0.004 mg/Kg; AOX = 0.019 ± 0.001 mg/Kg) was found. Industrial relevance: Nowadays, food industry is focused on improving shelf life of products by controlling its lipid oxidation using natural antioxidants. The obtained results let us design a new active packaging based on natural antioxidants for extending the shelf life of fresh minced meat at industrial scale

No full text
The article discusses the health issues of musically gifted young people, who, due to the nature of music education, are exposed to experiencing stage fright, understood as a specific type of stress that does not necessarily has negative impact on health. The purpose of the research was to answer the questions concerning the level of health of secondary school music students and its determinants. The Functional Health Model developed by Helena Wrona-Polańska (2003) was adopted as a theoretical basis, according to which health is a function of creative coping with stress. Health and stage fright were defined operationally. In the research the standardized interview and questionnaire techniques developed by the author were used. The research group comprised 132 students of secondary music schools. The results have shown that a quarter of students rate their health as bad, whereas more than half experience high level of stage fright and its symptoms, and cope with stage fright by focusing on emotions. Stage fright and emotional style have turned out to be negative predictors of health. The results point to the need of implementing interventions aimed at promoting the health of young people engaged in music education

The article deals with the issue of overtaking maneuver, so frequently executed in real road conditions, which is treated as an essential element of traffic from the point of view of road safety. The question raised here refers to the problem of legal provisions being analyzed in the context of the reality of traffic conditions. The study was illustrated based on an example of a traffic incident - overtaking of a farm tractor with a trailer by a passenger car. The author determined the complexity of the maneuver and pointed out the errors committed by the accident participants. Additionally, the multi-aspect issue of the circumstances of overtaking carried out in favorable road conditions was assessed. In the conclusion the author evaluated the extent to which the traffic rules were violated by the participants of the analyzed is road incident

„Against shameless in text and illustration”. Krakow censorship against demoralization (1918–1939) (Summary) The following article examines the issues of legal and social reglementation of pornographyfrom the standpoint of the Cracovian press control body between 1918 and 1939. The emphasis is put primarily on the legislative restrictions in the visualand literary presentation of nudeness, as well as sexuality in the text, drawing or reproduction. The author refrains from judging past legislative and juridical solutionsin this field. The article focuses on presenting and classifying the research materials, based on their form, content and the communication. The major aim of the article is thus a historic reconstruction of the Cracovian censorship actions. This concerns the reglementation of the publishing houses’ market which were accused of pornography. Moreover, the author defines the size of this market and indicates the reasons, why the publishing houses were subjectedto restrictions. The activity forms of Cracow municipals and Cracovian censorshipare also categorised in the article. Apart from the legal forms of restrictionssuch as: inspections, routine controls, confi scations and seizures of erotic publications, some other non-formal limitation trials could have been registered. These were initiated by the Catholic Church, various unions, associations as well as citizensthemselves

Shaping zones of quiet in a large enclosure generated by an active noise control system

No full text
[EN] Performance of an Active Noise Control (ANC) system strongly depends on sensors and actuators spatial arrangement. It determines both achieved Noise Reduction (NR) levels and spatial distribution of obtained zones of quiet, making it an essential problem. However, if the acoustic field in the enclosure can be appropriately modelled, then optimization algorithms can be employed to find efficient configuration of the ANC system, enhancing its performance according to a formulated cost function and constraints. This paper proposes a complete method for enhancing NR levels and shaping zones of quiet generated with an ANC system by optimization of sensors and actuators arrangement. A Memetic Algorithm (MA) is utilized. The MA itself and its proposed operators are described. The optimization problem formulation is derived and discussed. As a control algorithm, Distributed Multiple Error Filtered-x Least Mean Square (DMEFxLMS) is used. Extensive simulation results are presented for an exemplary real enclosure. The model of the acoustic environment has been obtained by real-world experiments, resulting in identification of 36864 acoustic responses in total. Practically feasible cost function and constraints are evaluated. Advantages and limits of the method are pointed out and discussed. The research reported in this paper has been supported by the National Science Centre, Poland, decision no. Avifaunic metaphors in the Polish criminal sociolect (19th century - 1920s)

No full text
The author discusses the etymology of few words used in Polish criminal jargon, from the 19th century until the interwar period. All the analyzed words are zoonimic metaphors. The author focuses on terms derived from the names of birds. In this text the author pesents the lexemes in the oldest Polish sociolectical dictionaries, e.g.: bażant (pheasant), sikora (tit), słowik (nightingale), wrona (crow), kogut (rooster), dzięcioł (woodpecker). The author sets semantic motivations of names and he collates information from several languages for this purpose (he reaches for texts from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries). Mainly presented words didn’t survive, today they aren’t appearing in non-standard dialect

Syntactically Characterizing Local-to-Global Consistency in ORD-Horn

No full text
Establishing local consistency is one of the most frequently used algorithmic techniques in constraint satisfaction in general and in spatial and temporal reasoning in particular. A collection of constraints is globally consistent if it is completely explicit, that is, every partial solution may be extended to a full solution by greedily assigning values to variables one at a time. We will say that a structure B has local-to-global consistency if establishing local-consistency yields a globally consistent instance of CSP(B) .This paper studies local-to-global consistency for ORD-Horn languages, that is, structures definable over the ordered rationals (ℚ; < ) within the formalism of ORD-Horn clauses. This formalism has attracted a lot of attention and is of crucial importance to spatial and temporal reasoning. We provide a syntactic characterization (in terms of first-order definability) of all ORD-Horn languages enjoying local-to-global consistency.</p

The last twenty years is a huge progress in the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative changes in the knee joint. Currently knee replacement is a fundamental activity in patients with large destructive changes in the joint. Studies carried out in the clinic Trauma Surgery at the University Teaching Hospital in Wroclaw, str. Borowski group of 105 patients. In this study, we observed that there was an improvement of quality of life after surgery, knee replacement, especially in people at a younger age. The pain persisted completely, but reduced in intensity. Women often suffer from arthritis and achieve better results on the knee. It was also shown that younger people better cope with the activities of daily living and have less pain from the knee joints. This suggests that a return to efficiency and improve the functioning of younger people should be achieved in a shorter time than adults, whose efficiency is further limited by the patient's age. Key words: Arthroplasty; osteoarthritis
