A Neural Network Based Elasto-Plasticity Material Model

    No full text
Due to the increasing use of complex materials in lightweight structures, the development and identification of proper material models for the prediction of damage and failure within Finite Element simulations has become an extensive task. Other fields of application have already shown that the introduction of Soft Computing and Machine Learning methods can be very beneficial for getting the complexity under control. This contribution presents an evaluation of the feasibility of using Artificial Neural Networks for modelling complex, nonlinear behaviour. A series of synthetic stress-strain paths generated by a standard elasto-plasticity model were used as target data in order to study the parameterizations required by the neural networks for successfully modelling elasto-plastic material behaviour. In single-element tests, generic multiaxial responses obtained by J2 elasto-plasticity material models were successfully modelled by means of feedforward neural networks implemented as user material routines for the FE code ABAQUS/Explicit. The used parameterizations were found to produce networks with very satisfactory generalization properties, i.e., the neural networks provided correct stress response along complex load paths that were not part of their training process

From Helmut Jürgensen’s former students: The game of informatics

Personal reflections are given on being students of Helmut Jürgensen. Then, we attempt to address his hypothesis that informatics follows trend-like behaviours through the use of a content analysis of university job advertisements, and then via simulation techniques from the area of quantitative economics

Stiebig H, Böhm M. Optimization Criteria for a-Si:H NIPIN Color Sensors. Journal of Non-Cryst. Solids. 1993;164-166:785-788.Amorphous silicon based n-i-p-i-n structures map be used as color detectors. A comparison of numerical modelling and measurements of spectral I-V and monochromatic response curves provides information about general device properties and device optimization criteria. The results of the simulations point out that the electronic properties in the vicinity of the p layer and the defect density in the p layer have a major influence on device perfomance and spectral separation

The article presents the figure of Helmut E. Luck, well-known scientist in the world of historians of psychology. Helmut E. Luck also is well-known in Poland, as the author or the scientific editor of several books in the field of history of psychology. In the first part of the article the short presentation of his scientific career and his scientific achievements are demonstrated. The second part comprises the analysis of his opinions in the scope of social psychology. Helmut E. Luck was the one of pioneers in psychology, who paid attention to social positive phenomena or social positive behaviors. In the field of history of psychology, H.E.Luck made the contribution to methodological analysis of psychological ideas in history, preferring the model which underlines connection of psychology with culture and at the same time creates the opportunity to analysis of biographical plots. The article also shows unquestionable and unusually merits of Luck’s in popularization of knowledge about history of psychology. The article presents the figure of Helmut E.
