My name is Muhammad Azrul bin Mohd Hosaini. I am student from UiTM Pasir Gudang semester 4. I am from Faculty of Civil Engineering. Industrial training is important to all student because it will expose us to the world of engineering. We also will learn how to adapt in environment at site construction. So that, we will be ready to enter the engineering world when we graduate from university. It is a chance for us to implement what we have learned in university and knowledge that we gained during industrial training when we start our engineering career. Firstly, this report is about my industrial training that I had undergo for 2 month, which is 8 week in total. I was given a chance to undergo industrial training at Johorland Berhad Bandar Tiram Division. I choose to apply for industrial training here is because I have made some research for developer company and I found out that Johorland Berhad is one of the top company developer in Johor. So, I made my decision to apply for industrial training here because I believe that I will gain more knowledge and experience which is related to my course. This report consist of 4 chapter. Chapter 1 is introduction to company. In this chapter, I will explain the background of the company, vision, mission and objective of the company. This chapter also include the organization chart of the company. Chapter one Can be conclude as the chapter for introduction to company. For chapter two, I explained about my weekly activities that I wrote at y daily industrial training logbook. For chapter three, it is about technical report. In this chapter, I explained about what I learned during my industrial training at Johorland Berhad. Everything that I learned at the site construction, test and at office such as contract document and drawing plan have been write in this chapter. Last but not least is chapter four which us conclusion of the report. This chapter is about what I get from this industrial training during 8 week period. This is all about my report that I can share. I hope this will help you when you are working with developer company

The measurement and modelling of electroluminescence in high voltage polymeric cable insulation materials

    No full text
Since space charge plays a significant role in long-term electrical degradation of polymeric insulation in high voltage cables, there is growing interest in the measurement of the energy dissipation of mobile and trapped charges in the dielectric molecules. The dissipation process is associated with the emission of visible photons, a process known as electroluminescence (EL) and can be used, potentially, as an indicator for the inhibition of electrical ageing of insulation. This thesis is based on an investigation into the occurrence of EL in dielectric materials as a result of applying high ac stresses. The phenomenon has been observed and analyzed for different types of thin polymeric films using a charge coupled device (CCD) detection system. This unique experimental setup enables a range of measurements to be performed including the imaging of EL, its temporal behaviour, spectral analysis and phase-resolved measurements using the same detector. The effects of several factors such as the types of material under study and local gas environment have been assessed based on the results obtained. Previously, different research groups have monitored the occurrence of EL under ac conditions by applying a sinusoidal electric field across the polymer but in this project, the emission is also examined under the influence of triangular and square voltage waveforms, together with their asymmetrical counterparts. In addition to this, a dynamic bipolar charge recombination model has been developed in order to simulate studies of EL under an alternating field. By comparing experimental results with the stimulation, the theories relating to the processes responsible for the occurrence of EL have been evaluated and a good agreement was found between the simulation and experimental results.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

Smart viscoelastic supports for vibration control in rotors

    No full text
One of the most important operating requirements of rotating machinery is the capability to operate away from its critical speeds. It can be achieved by associating a material that has property variation when induced by external stimuli. The focus of this work is the application of smart viscoelastic to the rotor dynamics field by employing magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) as its support. Characterisation of MRE property is determined through impact hammer test with and without the presence of a magnetic field. The modulus of the MRE was estimated from the accelerance FRF plot and compared with the MRE model. The MRE model is based on the inter-particle interaction in the rubber matrix and linearised with the assumption of small displacement around the equilibrium position of the particle. The model of magnetic field-dependent behaviour is combined with the viscoelastic property of the MRE in a series configuration. The linearised MRE model was fairly accurate to estimate the data from the hammer test and experimental data from the literature. Then a rigid rotor model, supported by a flexible mount at both ends that consist of plain bearing with the linearised MRE model is considered. The MRE support is simulated with a three-parameter standard linear viscoelastic model with the inclusion of induced magnetic field property. The simulation results, which were limited to zero-field conditions, indicate that the use of MRE in conventional bearing supports can shift the critical speeds and reduce its corresponding vibration amplitude. These results suggest that the critical speed shift due to the increase of ferromagnetic particles in MRE can be explored further, especially with the influence of the induced magnetic field
