A GIS Approach: Determinant of Neighbourhood Environment Indices in Influencing Walkability between Two Precincts in Putrajaya

    No full text
AbstractThis paper intends to fill the gaps between community facilities planning in the neighbourhood area with walkability using GIS approach to encourage more sustainable environment for all. Several studies have outlined that there are three main neighbourhood environment indices that can contribute towards improving neighbourhood walkability that are (1) residential density; (2) Landuse mixed and (3) street connectivity. The aim of this paper is to determine the neighbourhood environments indices that can influence neighbourhood walkability to reach the community facilities provided in the neighbourhood area. GIS approach was used to utilize neighbourhood environment through layout plan. The significant findings in the paper will show that residential density, street connectivity and non-residents components of mixed land use do affect the neighborhood walkability

Convenience and Safety of Walking Experience in Putrajaya Neighbourhood Area

AbstractWalking experience is one of the important components in measuring the walkability of neighbourhood area. There are two main components in measuring walking experience which are (1) safety and security; (2) convenience and attractiveness. The objective of this paper is to identify the reliability of walking experience variable in relation to walkability in two different urban neighbourhoods in Putrajaya. The data was gathered by using the questionnaire survey and analysed by the internal consistency and correlation analysis. The findings of this study will show the final items used for walking experience in determining the walkability level of a neighbourhood area

Implications of Walkability Towards Promoting Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood

AbstractClimate change is a widely accepted fact. Urbanization and industrialization is the main cause of the climate change phenomena all around the world. One of the main problems of urbanization is the increase in growing dependence on automobiles. The main modes of transportation even in the neighbourhood area are the private cars because it is the norm of urbanites to use the motorized vehicles rather than to walk. This shows that the planning and design of the neighbourhood itself can influence the walkability of the housing area. This paper highlights the implication of walkability towards promoting sustainable urban neighbourhood

A Comparative Study of Walking Behaviour to Community Facilities in Low-Cost and Medium Cost Housing

AbstractProvision of community facilities influences the walking behaviour in neighbourhood area. This paper is based on a comparative study of walking behaviour of residents in neighbourhood area to community facilities. The findings show that low cost housing area is within walking distance as compared to the medium cost housing area in reaching the community facilities as there is certain factor that affects the walking behaviour such as distance, catchment area radius, location, accessibility, density and land use pattern. The recommendations for this study are to create flexible catchment area radius, locating community facilities that can maximise walking and creating accessibility standard in neighbourhood area

AbstractProvision of community facilities may influence the walkability level of residents in urban neighbourhood area. Walkability can be measured through accessibility of urban residents to retail and community facilities provided. The objective of this paper is to understand the perceptions of residents accessibility to community facilities provided. The data was gathered by using the questionnaire survey and analyses using T-test analysis and Kruskal Wallis test. The total number of 381 respondents who live in Precinct 8 and Precinct 9 in Putrajaya were selected to answer the questionnaire survey. The findings of this study will show the qualities of resident's perception on accessibility affect the level of walkability in neighbourhood area

AbstractWalking behavior can be considered as one of the important factors in measuring the walkability level in neighborhood. Walking behavior has close interrelationships with walkability. This paper is based on a comparative study of walking behaviour of residents between urban and rural neighborhood. The method used in this study is known as walking distance test and the data were analyzed using the comparative approach. The findings show that there are slight differences of walking speed, walking time and walking speed between residents in the urban and rural neighborhood area

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
