A case study of waqf lands in Selangor: a proposed model for agribusiness / Norfaridah Ali Azizan

    No full text
This study explores the potential of the waqf lands in Selangor to be revitalised for agribusiness activities. The latest survey in 2018 shows that 87% of Malaysia's waqf lands are considered underutilised, which is a loss to the ummah, country, and the endower. Therefore, a pragmatic approach is needed to be developed and implemented so that the underutilised waqf lands can be transformed. Selangor is unique because it is among the most significant states in Malaysia, blessed with fertile lands. Likewise, the issues that affect waqf lands in Malaysia are also faced in Selangor, and the underutilised waqf lands in the state are too high. Agribusiness is suggested because this study viewed it as a pragmatic solution to address the problems of waqf lands and at the same time to assist the government in achieving the food security level for the country and to some extent, to lift the B40 economic situation. This study employed qualitative methods by interviewing nine key informants who are experts in their fields comprising Shariah experts, waqf management, agriculture authority, farmer and government agencies. They have discussed several pertinent issues such as Shariah requirements, legal consideration, financial constraints, location and size of the waqf lands, expertise to develop the waqf lands, the agreement's scope, and the responsible party to lead the initiative. Limitations are also being highlighted in the study, so readers will understand the research's whole discussion and the mitigation and explanation to address the limitations. At the end of the study, one model is proposed for agribusiness on the waqf lands: the Waqf Trustee-Anchor Company - Community Farmers Model, validated by the key informants

It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered? Syriac-Arabic Glosses of Isho bar Ali. Volume 2

    No full text
These two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

3D software and renderings have become the everyday feature of an architecture design process. The aim of using 3D technology is to reinforce and serve as a foundation for architects and engineers in their process of designing, structuring, and managing the projects as well as utilized for promoting property in order to boost viewer's purchasing confidence. It is particularly challenging to select the best 3D software and its feature, that can deliver effectiveness and increase efficiency in the overall development process. This attributed to issues of which is the best 3D software for architecture industry and how far has the features of the 3D software being utilized. Taking Malaysian architecture industry as a sample, this research project has investigated the extent, nature, and reasons for the problems that have arisen. In particular, it has focused on examining the quality and effectiveness of the 3D software associated in facilitating information in the architecture design process and supporting property buyer experiences. The analysis has been conducted empirically, by first comparing the architecture design process, the 3D software associated with it and the role of 3D software and rendering against best practice, as described in the international literature. An ethnographic study was then undertaken to discover how the 3D software is used and utilised in the architecture design process, and to investigate the stakeholders (architects, engineers and contractors) perceptions of its usability and effectiveness. Finally, to understand how issues may have arisen, a review of the development process has been undertaken and it has been compared to development methods recommended in the literature, as well as the guidelines provided by the software publisher. The outcomes of the project include an empirical evaluation of the usage of 3D software among Malaysian architects at present; the identification of other issues that have affected its uptake; an evaluation of the roles of 3D software in the design process and as well as its effectiveness in promoting property via visualization, out of this, an extended set of principles to guide the choice of efficient 3D software and effective 3D to ensure that it accommodates the various stakeholders needs

The central theme of this volume is the work of Sabahattin Ali, the Turkish author and translator from German into Turkish who achieved posthumous success with his novel Kürk Mantolu Madonna (The Madonna in the Fur Coat). Our contributors analyze this novel, which takes place largely in Germany, and several other texts by Ali in the context of world literature, (cultural) translation, and intertextuality. Their articles go far beyond the intercultural love affair that has typically dominated the discussion of Madonna. Other articles consider Zafer Şenocak’s essay collection Deutschsein and transcultural learning through picture books. An interview with Selim Özdoğan rounds out the issue.
