Dynamics of erythrocytes, vesicles and capsules in shear flow: the role of membrane bending stiffness and membrane viscosity
Three-dimensional numerical simulations using immersed boundary/front-tracking
method are considered to study the dynamics and deformation of microscopic deformable cells with elastic and viscoelastic membranes suspended in linear shear flow. The objective in this thesis is to understand the complex fluid/structure interaction problem for membrane-bound soft matter in dilute suspensions. The numerical model includes all essential properties of the cell membrane, namely, the resistance against shear deformation, area dilatation, and bending, as well as the viscosity difference between the cell interior and suspending fluids. In addition, the Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic model is incorporated to account for the effect of membrane viscosity. Our numerical technique is able to simulate complex dynamics of vesicles, capsules, and red blood cells in the tank-treading, breathing, trembling, and tumbling modes. A detailed comparison of the numerical results for vesicles is made with various theoretical models and experiments. It is found that the applicability of the theoretical models is limited to quasi-spherical vesicles. We show that near the transition between the tank-treading and tumbling dynamics, both the vacillating-breathing-like motion characterized by a smooth ellipsoidal shape, and the trembling-like motion characterized by a highly deformed shape are possible. We also present phase diagrams of the single red blood cell dynamics in linear shear flow. We find that the cell dynamics is often more complex than the well-known tank-treading, tumbling, and swinging motion and is characterized by an extreme variation of the cell shape. Identifying such complex shape dynamics termed here as breathing dynamics, is the focus of this study. Further, we find a very good agreement between our numerical and the theoretical and experimental results on the tank-treading frequency of red blood cells, which is often measured in experiments and used to extract the mechanical properties of the cell. A comprehensive analysis of the influence of the membrane viscosity on buckling, deformation and dynamics is given for initially spherical or oblate capsules. The major finding here is that the membrane viscosity leads to buckling in the range of shear rates in which no buckling is observed for capsules with purely elastic membrane.Ph. Zarİf Beşİrİ’nİn “üzbek edebİyati” adli eserİ: Bakiş açisi-İçerİk İncelemesİ
The work "Uzbek Literature" published in 1930 by Tatarian author and researcher Zarif Beshiri was one of the first of its genre. However; The Tatarian roots of the author of such an important work about Uzbek Literature, which has a long tradition of written language, makes the study much more remarkable. Although it is not a voluminous work, the period it was written, its contents and the author’s perspective increase the importance of the study. Besides Beshiri’s similiar studies about Chuvash and Uigur literatures, his publication of a long story named Chuvash Girl Enise reveals his perspective. In this respect, the work called Uzbek Literature, is also important for revealing the perspective a Tatarian intellectual to the literature of Turkic communities. It is also significant for its being one of the first steps for the history of Uzbek literature. In this article, Beshiri’s work will be handled from this point of view. © 2019 Hacettepe University 1. All rights reserved

Apart from pumping data, 16 geophysical well logs (resistivity, gamma ray, self-potential, and nuclear logs) are utilized to achieve the main goal of estimating petrophysical parameters (porosity (∅), effective porosity (∅!""), hydraulic conductivity (k), permeability (K) and shale volume
Simulating The U.S. Senate: An LLM-Driven Agent Approach to Modeling Legislative Behavior and Bipartisanship
This study introduces a novel approach to simulating legislative processes using LLM-driven virtual agents, focusing on the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee. We developed agents representing individual senators and placed them in simulated committee discussions. The agents demonstrated the ability to engage in realistic debate, provide thoughtful reflections, and find bipartisan solutions under certain conditions. Notably, the simulation also showed promise in modeling shifts towards bipartisanship in response to external perturbations. Our results indicate that this LLM-driven approach could become a valuable tool for understanding and potentially improving legislative processes, supporting a broader pattern of findings highlighting how LLM-based agents can usefully model real-world phenomena. Future works will focus on enhancing agent complexity, expanding the simulation scope, and exploring applications in policy testing and negotiation
The Bahr al-Madhi of Shaykh Muijammad Idris al-Marbawi: a preliminary analysis
The Bahr al-Madhi of Shaykh Muhammad Idris al-Marbawi can be aptly considered as one of the greatest literary masterpiece of Malay Muslim scholarship in the twentieth century. It was composed as a commentary to the Jamie al-Tirmidhiand the only one of its kind to have been written in the Malay language. Perhaps, due to the lack of awareness, the book has not received attention or been the subject of any study or scrutiny by contemporary researchers. It is therefore, the intention of this preliminary exposition on the book in terms of its scope, content and analysis of the methodology of its author to pave the way for further analysis and studies in the future

Mobilnost in identiteta v umetnosti in literaturi Etel Adnan
This article is based on a literary reading of two books by Etel Adnan: In the Heart of the Heart of Another Country and Of Cities & Women (Letters to Fawwaz), and on an interview that the author personally conducted with her in 2018. It examines Adnan’s sense of nomadism in her art and literature. She is born into a nomadic culture and moves as an intellectual nomad from Lebanon to Paris, and then to California, and finally returns to Lebanon before having to escape due to the civil war. Her nomadism gives her an inspiring openness, creating a state of béance – the freedom from borders postulated by Bouraoui.Članek temelji na literarni analizi dveh knjig Etel Adnan, in sicer V srcu srca druge države (In the Heart of the Heart of Another Country) in Mesta in ženske (Pisma Fawwazu) (Cities&Women, Letters to Fawwaz) ter osebnem intervjuju z umetnico iz leta 2018.
Exploration of chromophores for a VCD couplet in a spectrally transparent infrared region for biomolecules
Interactions of two chromophores such as carbonyl groups yield a strong VCD couplet that reflects the molecular structures. The use of VCD couplets for biomacromolecular structural studies has been hampered by severe signal overlap caused by numerous functional groups that originally exist in biomacromolecules. Nitrile, isonitrile, alkyne, and azido groups show characteristic IR absorption in the 2300-2000 cm(-1) region, where biomolecules do not strongly absorb. We herein examined the usefulness of these functional groups as chromophores to observe a strong VCD couplet that can be readily interpreted using theoretical calculations. Studies on a chiral binaphthyl scaffold possessing two identical chromophores showed that nitrile and isonitrile groups generate moderately-strong but complex VCD signals due to anharmonic contributions. The nature of their anharmonic VCD patterns is discussed by comparison with the VCD spectrum of a mono-chromophoric molecule and by anharmonic DFT calculations. On the other hand, through studies on diazido binaphthyl and diazido monosaccharide, we demonstrated that the azido group is more promising for structural analysis of larger molecules due to its simple, strong VCD couplet whose spectral patterns are readily predicted by harmonic DFT calculations
Multicenter Validation of Video-based Deep Learning to Evaluate Defecation Patterns on 3-dimensional High-definition Anorectal Manometry
BACKGROUND & AIMS: Deep learning technologies have demonstrated the ability to identify dyssynergic defecation for diagnosis of common gastrointestinal motility disorders through nuanced interpretation of 3-dimensional high-definition anal manometry (3D-HDAM). We aimed to validate a deep learning algorithm capable of spatiotemporal analysis of 3D-HDAM in a multicenter setting.
METHODS: We included 1214 consecutive anorectal manometry studies performed across 3 large health care systems between 2018 and 2022. Deep learning results were compared with expert interpretation according to the London consensus protocol as reference standard. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed using bootstrap sampling to calculate area under the curve (AUC). We used Wilcoxon tests to analyze how well the confidence scores from the deep learning model correlated with the likelihood that experts would assign ambiguous labels in cases where determinations were uncertain. Video-based deep learning features were clustered using Gaussian Mixture Modeling to reveal novel dyssynergia subtypes.
RESULTS: The deep hybrid learning algorithm achieved AUCs of 0.99 (± 0.001 standard deviation), 0.90 ± 0.008, and 0.79 ± 0.003 at Dartmouth Health, Henry Ford Hospital, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, respectively, performance comparable or superior to solely deep learning or traditional modeling on every cohort. The algorithm appeared capable of reporting confidence aligned with manual expert interpretation of ambiguity (W = -20.50; P \u3c .001; -1.73; P = .08; and -3.22; P = .001). We further identified 2 novel classes of dyssynergia patterns that may represent clinically relevant phenotypes of dyssynergia.
CONCLUSIONS: 3D-HDAM combined with video-based deep learning is a useful and clinically relevant technology for evaluating anorectal dyssynergia. Future use cases can be expanded to evaluate other motility disorders and their treatment
