Oral health status and treatment needs of the institutionalised elderly population in Melbourne
Deposited with permission of the author. © 1996 Roslan Saub. The purpose of this study was to determine the oral health status and treatment needs of elderly persons living in residential institutions in Melbourne. A total of 175 elderly persons aged 65 years and over were selected from 20 hostels located within a 10 km radius of the Melbourne GPO. A two stage field design was used to collect data. First, subjects were interviewed using a standard questionnaire, then clinical examinations were performed using a fiber optic light, plane mouth mirror, dental probe and periodontal probe. Coronal caries (DMFT), root caries (R-DF), periodontal status (CPITN), denture status, and treatment needs were assessed. The mean age of the subjects was 83.7 (sd 7.2) years. Eighty per cent were female and 20% were male
Proposal for adaptive re-use on pre-war urban schools Case Study: ( former ) St.Mary’s Girls’ School, No.7, Jalan Tengah, Kuala Lumpur / Roslan Salim
The main purpose of this dissertation is to study the potential development programme for urban pre-war schools, which were to be relocated elsewhere away from urban setting. When such situation happens, these schools will have to be carefully proposed for adaptive re-use so that it benefits everyone, especially both the developers and the local community. The StMary’s Girls’ School, in Jalan Tengah Kuala Lumpur ( within the 'Golden Triangle ‘ ) was recently relocated to Taman Intan Baiduri Kepong Kuala Lumpur due to improper planning strategy and improper design proposal. The buildings are now left unattended and in very poor condition. If no proper development programme is proposed, the buildings will be declared unfit to live and demolition order will follow suit. In this study, the author is therefore involved in finding a suitable new use for the pre-war school buildings, so that on the overall context of the site, preserving the old pre-war buildings will be seen as the catalyst to the overall development into the site. Adaptive re-use of the pre-war buildings and redevelopment of the overall former school site has been seen as the approach to conserve the prewar buildings and enhancement the environment of the site. Based on the location aspects and property market values ( theoretical-practical aspects ), the most suitable new use will be proposed and envisaged
The Relationship between the Impacts of social media towards Personality
Social media are vital in today’s society. As time goes along slowly, people can start noticing the changes in public’s personality associated with uses of different social media platforms. This research tries to find some kind of relationship that can be determined concisely whether this belief is factual or simply a popular perception. The research objective for this research is to identify the relationship between the impacts of social media towards personality and social interaction. This study applied the Social Interactions Theory as the main theory to further strengthen the relationship between each variable. Quantitative methods were applied in this study and data were collected through the distribution of questionnaires to 202 respondents within University Poly-Tech Malaysia. This study’s theoretical foundation is based on the social interaction theory. The theory suggests that social interaction plays a significant role in shaping an individual’s understanding, learning, and personal development. The results of this study demonstrate that social media plays a new role in the theory that can facilitate and enhance social interaction
A stochastic hybrid model for pricing forward-start variance swaps
Recently, market players have been exposed to the astounding increase in the trading volume of variance swaps. In this paper, the forward-start nature of a variance swap is being inspected, where hybridizations of equity and interest rate models are used to evaluate the price of discretely-sampled forward-start variance swaps. The Heston stochastic volatility model is being extended to incorporate the dynamics of the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) stochastic interest rate model. This is essential since previous studies on variance swaps were mainly focusing on instantaneous-start variance swaps without considering the interest rate effects. This hybrid model produces an efficient semi-closed form pricing formula through the development of forward characteristic functions. The performance of this formula is investigated via simulations to demonstrate how the formula performs for different sampling times and against the real market scenario. Comparison done with the Monte Carlo simulation which was set as our main reference point reveals that our pricing formula gains almost the same precision in a shorter execution time
Analytical pricing formulas for hybrid variance swaps with regime-switching
The problem of pricing discretely-sampled variance swaps under stochastic volatility, stochastic interest rate and regime-switching is being considered in this paper. An extension of the Heston stochastic volatility model structure is done by adding the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) stochastic interest rate model. In addition, the parameters of the model are permitted to have transitions following a Markov chain process which is continuous and discoverable. This hybrid model can be used to illustrate certain macroeconomic conditions, for example the changing phases of business stages. The outcome of our regime-switching hybrid model is presented in terms of analytical pricing formulas for variance swaps
