Molecular Pathology and Methylation Assessment in Pancreatic Cancer; New Approach in Diagnosis and Treatment

    No full text
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in world. Patient survival is less than 5%. However, early diagnosis of this cancer is very essential. In this article, we studied molecular pathology, epigenetic change in pancreatic cancer, and discussed the effect of methylation in inception and development of pancreatic cancer. By studying and identifying the genes methylated in this cancer, we can utilize them as biomarkers to be used to diagnose this cancer in a timely manner. Pancreatic cancer is realized as a multistage process characterized by the accumulation of genetic alterations companioned by typical histological conversion in pancreatic ductal cells. DNA methylation is one of the key changes in epigenetics in DNA structure. DNA methylation pattern as biomarker has explicit applications in diagnosis of cancers. Extensive disturbances of DNA methylation have been observed in cancer, causing changes in regulation of gene expression, developing oncogenesis. Understanding both epigenetic changes and DNA mutations promises for improving the characterization of malignancy to predict prognosis and treatment response. By recognition and understanding of molecular pathways and gene changes in this cancer, numerous drugs have been tested for targeted treatment that will allow identifying whole methylation patterns to recognize biomarkers for prognosis and early diagnosis of this cancer in future. By identifying pathways and aberrant methylation, screening and diagnosis are more and more necessary at early stages

Burnout was assessed with MBI in three dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment . The final scores were categorized as high, moderate and low based on standard test scores . Data were analyzed using linear regression test with Enter method .   Results: The prevalence of reduced personal accomplishment , depersonalization and emotional exhaustion was 19.1%, 7% and 4% among subjects, respectively. Work experience and weekly work hours did not have a significant association with occupational burnout (P>0.05) .   Conclusion: The mean overall score gained by dental faculty members of Tehran Azad Dental University showed a low prevalence of occupational burnout in comparison to national statistics

Application of Analog Adaptive Filters for Dynamic Sensor Compensation

    No full text
This paper investigates the application of analog adaptive techniques to the area of dynamic sensor compensation, of which there is little reported work in the literature. The case is illustrated by showing how the response of a load cell can be improved to speed up the process of measurement. The load cell is a sensor with an oscillatory output in which the measurand contributes to the response parameters. Thus, a compensation filter needs to track variation in measurand whereas a simple, fixed filter is only valid at one specific load value. To facilitate this investigation, computer models for the load cell and the adaptive compensation filter have been developed. To allow a practical implementation of the adaptive techniques, a novel piecewise linearization technique is proposed in order to vary a floating voltage-controlled resistor in a linear manner over a wide range. Simulation and practical results are presented, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed techniques

This article aims to determine the level of life skills training effect on the educational stress of the Islamic Azad University students of Sanandaj in 2013-2014 and it was done by using the experimental research method with pre-test and post-test of interviewed (testifier) group. The statistic society of this article consist of all Islamic Azad University students of Sanandaj in 2013-2014 that based on statistics it was about 11000 persons that Cochran's model was used for estimating the sample size and 277 persons were chosen casually. According to the sample size, firstly the student life stress questionnaire was performed and 60 persons of people that had maximum students life stress depend on questionnaire scale were chosen and screened. The 60 screened persons were divided into two experimental group and control group. It means that 30 people in the experimental group that was taken under the life skills training and 30 people as Control group in order to being compared with the experimental group in the terms of life skills training effect of the educational stress. For surveying the variable s relation, analysis statics and independent T test were used. The result showed that in the terms of life skills training effect on educational stress (there is a meaningful difference between the experimental group and control group) or in other hand, life skills had meaningful effect on the educational stress deduction

Background: Given the importance of high-quality healthy food for humans, contamination control is the most important concern for healthy staff. Aim: To determine the attitudes of students at Islamic Azad University (Tehran Medical Branch) toward food safety. Methods: This cross-sectional and analytic-descriptive study was conducted on 326 students of Azad University of Medical Sciences in 2016. A self-made questionnaire consisting of 40 questions was used. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed using internal consistency method (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.80). After collecting data, we use descriptive statistical indexes (mean and standard deviation) among demographic variables and the level of knowledge to describe and analyze the data. The participants’ attitudes and operation are measured by Spearman tests, and the analytical results are given using SPSS version 20. Results: According to the findings, 55.3, 30 and 14.7 percent of students had high, moderate and low attitude scores toward food safety, respectively. In addition, male and female students had equal attitudes toward food safety, and no significant relationship between sex and attitude was observed a significant difference (p>0.05), but between educational levels (p=0.008) and ages (p=0.001) of students significance was a positive correlation. Conclusions: Due to the low attitudes score of about half of the students of Islamic Azad University Tehran Medical Branch toward food safety, it can be claimed, food safety training in this community is required

A new, 3D overlapping-sphere model of cell adhesion:

    No full text
Cell adhesion refers to the ability of cells to make enduring and dynamic attachments to extracellular surfaces and to each other; rightly so it is a focal point of current biological research. I have designed a computational framework to model cell adhesion using a modified overlapping-sphere model. A core feature of the model is the three-dimensional representation of a cell surface that can interact mechanically with its environment. The generalization of a cell as a sphere gives our model the compactness to enable the simulations of thousands of cells, comparable to the number of cells typically encountered through small scale studies of early development and disease. Specifically, we use this computational framework to model adhesion between cells in a monolayer and a fibrous environment, cell shape change, as well as cell replication. We also include elements of cell orientation, or cell polarity, and touch on some aspects of mechanical feedback. We explore some general aspects of developmental biology as well as cancer in mammary ducts. Although we emphasize epithelial cells, which are cells that form monolayers, we also briefly consider migratory cells. The major results are that (1) Cells in a monolayer, like sheets and tubes, need to be both mobile and well-connected to adapt to mechanically stresses, (2) Cells that are not polarized do not produce a stable monolayer of cells, (3) Extracellular support, like a basement membrane, can minimize the stresses experienced at cell-cell junctions, (4) Mitosis triggered by tension can help maintain a monolayer of cells, (5) Cell shape needs to be incorporated into models to minimize undesirable stresses, (6) Our computational framework is useful to predict behavior of cells subjected to mechanical forces. As this is a new model, results are chiefly qualitative, and suggest future work in collaboration with experimentalists to verify and quantitate our results.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 79-81)by Mehdi Doum
