Idioms indicate a sense of richness in a language. Thus idioms have a significant place in a language. Understanding and comprehending abstract concepts is rather difficult for a child who is just learning his/her native language. In this context idioms help pre-school children in their understanding of abstract situations. Therefore the amount of idioms that are present in children’s books is crucial. This paper explores the idioms in terms of both quality and quantity in Filiz Özdem’s novel Sırlarla Dolu Konak. Filiz Özdem has an important place in children and teenage literature. She has written productively for a wide range of age groups. Filiz Özdem’s novel entitled Sırlarla Dolu Konak is regarded as early youth novel mainly addressing the age group between 10-12. This novel was first published by YKY in June 2012. So far the book has been published for five times indicating its popularity among young readers. The book, which consists of 118 pages, employs a simple and clear language. Thus, the frequency and usage of idioms in the novel are many. It is observed that the idioms used in the novel are commonly used and known by most of the readers. This paper attempts to determine, list and define the idioms in the novel, and to identify how the author has used them in terms of syntax, style and lexical features

Written by Dr. Filiz Tokur Göncü, Sanal Kaytarma (Cyberloafing) offers a compelling analysis of internet usage in the modern workplace, challenging the traditional view of non-work-related browsing as merely "time theft." This book explores the intricate relationships between organizational socialization, organizational climate, and employee motivation through extensive empirical research conducted on public sector employees. By framing cyberloafing as a potential mechanism for mental recovery and stress relief rather than solely counterproductive behavior, the author demonstrates how these digital breaks can positively influence employee motivation when understood and managed correctly. Essential for HR professionals, managers, and organizational behavior scholars, this work provides a fresh perspective on managing human capital in an increasingly digitalized and connected work environment.Dr.

Religion, Nationalism and Foreign Policy: Discursive Construction of New Turkey's Identity

    No full text
This book provides a critical discussion on how different discourses of nationalism in the Turkish media construct contested concepts of New Turkey's identity, which has great importance for mapping modern Turkey's place in the world of nations. Drawing on a Discourse-Historical Approach, the author analyses different discourses on Turkish national identity and foreign policy in Turkish media in the second term of the AKP government from 2007 to 2011, which was the period of consolidation of Muslim conservative nationalism in both internal and external relations. By using three case studies, including the Presidential elections in 2007, the launch of Kurdish Initiative in 2009, and the debate of axis shift in Western orientation of Turkish Foreign Policy in 2010, the book argues that not only has AKP's Muslim nationalism reconstructed new Turkish foreign policy, but also new Turkish foreign policy discourse has reconstructed Turkish nation's Muslim identity and reinforced Muslim nationalism. © Filiz Coban Oran, 2022

Bozkurt Bekoğlu, Filiz (Dogus Author)Economic growth, environment, and health are three significant aspects of sustainable development. Nowadays, lifestyle is increasingly evaluated as one of the most important factors influencing health. As increasing health expenditure is an important problem for sustainable development, it is essential to examine the society in terms of their health-related habits and promote healthy lifestyle to support sustainable development. In this chapter, healthy lifestyle of highly educated Istanbulites is researched. The respondents are classified into three distinct clusters according to their healthy lifestyles as "young and single individuals with low healthy lifestyle tendency." "young and middle-aged individuals consuming natural food," and "elderly, married adults leading healthy lifestyles." Afterwards, analyzing the data by ANOVA and post-hoc tests, it is found that respondents in different clusters have significantly different green consumer values and health motivations. Finally, theoretical and managerial discussions are provided and some recommendations are made for academicians and practitioners

Causal Relationship between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth

    No full text
In this chapter, the authors investigate the causality relationship between the inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth as measured by Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Turkey during the period 1974-2012 by using the Granger causality tests. The causality test indicates that economic growth Granger-causes FDI. This means that there is bidirectional causality from Reel GDP to FDI in Turkey. So the author results support "the growth-driven FDI hypothesis". This demonstrates that in the related time in Turkey, more direct foreign investment entered the economy together with an increase in economic growth

After the publication of the above article, a correction was received to remove the last author of this article “Yuksel Abalı”. This has been updated and the article has been republished online with updated author list as below: Authors: Filiz Saman, Ebru Al, Bilge Boylu, and Osman ArslanAttachment of Silicon quantum dots (Si QDs) onto starch via sol-gel controlled covalent bonding to form hybrid starch particles was developed to modulate the optical, physical, and mechanical features of starch. Fabricated Si QDs chemically interacted with –OH side groups due to the sol-gel reactions on the starch molecules providing a detectable new molecular bonding to result in fluorescent emission. The produced structures formed nonlinear morphological orientations that provide a nanocomposite material platform for a facile molecular marking in daily applications.Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, IZU BAP Project: IZUOGR-2020-0

Evaluation of the Relationship Between the Maxillary Sinus and Nasopalatine Canal of Maxillary Impacted Canines by Cone Beam Computed Tomography

    No full text
Introduction. One of the critical parameters evaluated while planning orthodontic treatment for impacted canines in clinical practice is the relationship between impacted canines and adjacent anatomical structures. The nasopalatine canal (NPC) and maxillary sinus are anatomical formations that may be in close proximity to impacted canines. This study aimed to determine the relationship between palatally impacted canines, the maxillary sinus, and the NPC. Methods. A total of 105 impacted canines from 93 patients were evaluated using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. The relationship between the impacted canine teeth, maxillary sinus, and NPC was assessed inside, outside, and at the border of the maxillary sinus floor and NPC walls. The millimetric distance between the impacted canine teeth and the borders of the maxillary sinus, the NPC, and the cortical bone of the palate was measured. Additionally, NPC morphology was assessed on the axial and sagittal CBCT images. Results. Of all the impacted teeth, 47.6% (3.8% inside, 43.8% at the border) were associated with the sinus, while 42.8% (15.2% inside, 27.6% at the border) were associated with the NPC. A significant moderate negative correlation (-0.32) was observed between age and the distance between impacted left canine teeth and the cortical bone of the palate. Additionally, when a Y-shaped NPC was present, the impacted canines were predominantly situated outside the canal. Conclusions. In this study, nearly half of the canines were located inside or at the border of the maxillary sinus and the NPC. Therefore, clinicians should carefully evaluate the relationship of impacted teeth with the maxillary sinus and the NPC during both orthodontic treatment and the extraction of impacted teeth
