Abstract Title: Brand exposure in television. A comparison between SVT and TV4 2003 and 2006. Number of pages: 57 including appendix Author: Axel Victorin Period: Spring 2008 Course: Media and Communication studies C University: Division of Media and Communication, Department of Information Science, Uppsala University Purpose/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalance of brand exposure in Swedish public service television, SVT and TV4. The Swedish public service TV broadcasting company, Sveriges Television (SVT) advertises itself as purveyor of free television, without commercial or political interference. A B-level essay, written some years ago, showed that the SVT policies were not always observed throughout the entire organisation. The aim of this essay is, by using quantitative research, to study whether SVT is letting commercial interests have their say in the programmes by exposing brand names and logotypes. Material/method: The study is performed through examining 40 hours of television from SVT and 40 hours from TV4, as reference. TV4 is a Swedish commercially funded broadcaster, working under similar legislation as SVT. A quantitative method has been developed for this study. Results: The results of the study shows that while TV4 stays on a fairly steady level concerning brand exposure, brand exposure in SVT has decreased significantly between 2003 and 2006. The reason for this is beleived to be increased awareness of the issue in the SVT organisation, possibly due to product placement being more debated and acknowledged in recent years. Keywords: SVT, TV4, product placement, brand name exposure, television, marketin
Aragwaksã: a reconquista do território Pataxó
Through bibliographical and ethnographic research and having as a conceptual foundation, the theory of recognition of the author Axel Honneth, it is intended through the article, to contribute to the understanding of the collective actions of the Pataxó people in favor of the reconquest of their traditional territory, from the promulgation the federal constitution of 1988; context in which, based on constitutional guarantees, the Pataxó form a political community by demanding the expansion of the Indigenous Land of Barra Velha (in Porto Seguro-BA), which is in a situation of overlap with the National Park and historic Monte Pascoal and other properties in the region.
This thesis is a proposed translation of the picture book Flip Flap Safari, written by the German author Axel Scheffler and published in 2014. The translation is presented along with an analysis and a commentary in which I analyse and examine the main translation problems of this kind of literature. and I explain the reasons behind my solutions.
The translation of a picture book is a creative challenge because it requires translator to use their linguistic and cultural skills together with their imagination and to evaluate the phonetic dimension of the source text and reproduce in the target language.
In the first part of my thesis I will introduce an overview of children’s literature in Italy and I will then focus on Flip Flap Safari, analysing the text and providing biographical information about its author-illustrator Axel Scheffler. In the second part of my thesis I will present my translation of the book, which will be followed by a reflection about the main problems I had to face during the translation process
Simulations of Single Molecule Localization Microscopy frames with scattered single emitters
[THIS IS AN OLD, CLOSED VERSION. PLEASE FIND THE LATEST VERSION HERE: 10.5281/zenodo.5528367]
Datasets used in the work "Combining deep learning with SUPPOSe and Compressed Sensing for SNR-enhanced localization of overlapping emitters".
The file Sample dataset.zip contains simulated images of frames of Single-Molecule Localization Microscopy. In the directory structure, Q is the number of emitters, d is the emitter distance (in pixels), imax is the image maximum intensity and i indexes different noise realizations. There are three images within each folder: X is a noiseless image, Y is the image with noise and background and Z is a denoised image predicted using a convolutional neural network.
The file Train dataset.zip contains 5000 simulated pairs of images of single emitters distributed randomly that were used to train a convolutional neural network for denoising. The folder X contains noiseless images and the folder Y contains the corresponding images with noise and background.
In all cases, a Gaussian PSF with size px was used as the PSF of the imaging system, Noise is modeled as a Poisson process with a dark signal .

2016.This essay seeks to analyze and discuss ideas about economy and market using
as basis the book Freedom’s Right from author Axel Honneth. After a quick review
about his general idea about social freedom and market, it tries to propose a
one-way out to market Honneth´ pessimism. The hypothesis is that crowdfunding
could be seen as a one-way out to market logic and funding of typical market. As
so, it seeks to get closer that idea of social freedom proposed by Honneth through
collaborative funding, trying to find a transition from market economy of our days

Speciation genomics: Investigating the causes and consequences of admixture between polar bears and brown bears using ancient and contemporary genomes
The concept of the species has traditionally been the principal unit for the classification of the diversity of life. Although the conceptual and legal relevance of the idea of species is profound and wide ranging it is also increasingly evident that the concept of species is a significant oversimplification of the complex processes at work in nature. The growing body of evidence from genomic data, and other sources, indicates that interspecific hybridization plays a much more substantial role in evolution than had previously been appreciated and that speciation, the formation of new species, is likely a more gradual process than had been appreciated. In my dissertation work, I have applied whole genome sequencing and ancient DNA based techniques to examine the evolutionary relationship of two closely related species, polar bears (Ursus maritimus) and brown bears (Ursus arctos ), which occupy substantially different ecological niches. This work is presented in a series of three papers that have contributed to reshaping scientific understanding of the relatedness of polar bears and brown bears and suggest that climate changes can profoundly impact the frequency of hybridization between these two species. I have also contributed to method development – in a fourth paper my coauthors and I developed a novel application of existing analysis tools to estimate the end point of the speciation process, the time at which all gene flow has ceased, from genomic data. Finally, in collaboration with my co-first author Axel Barlow and colleagues, I have examined the evolutionary relationship between polar and brown bears and their closest extinct relatives, the cave bears, which has revealed previously undocumented admixture between cave bears and brown bears and provides insights into the extent of diversity within the paleo-species groups of cave bear

The contemporary concept of refugee arises in the fifties, due to the barbarities of the second world war. During the same period arises the idea os Transitional Justice. If, on the one hand, forced displaced persons are forced to flee their countries because of authoritarian dictatorships, on the other hand, redemocratization is a possibility and then Transitional Justice arises. Parallel to this, the Brazilian military dictatorship consolidated itself according to the national security doctrine, based in a policy of "security against communism and terrorism". Additionally, this is also a reflection on the people who were banned from Brazil and prevented from returning, remaining vulnerable abroad, without the protection of their own State. Based on that, this research aims to investigate how Transitional Justice in Brazil operated after the last democratic transition and the constitutional opening to human rights, relating it to forced displacement topic and trying overcome the idea of forgetfulness about what happened during the dictatorship period in Brazil. In addition, the importance of Transition Justice for social integration, using the theory of recognition of the German author Axel Honneth, is discussed, demonstrating how this thesis is plausible for the (re) integration of returnees (ex-exiles) to Brazilian society. This work, therefore, uses the concept of Transitional Justice as Recognition. Finally, on the basis of the foregoing words, it is investigated how and if Brazil has reached a conception of Transitional Justice as recognition
