Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Investigation of housing preferences in view of the housing market dynamics in Doha metropolitan
Since the 2000s, Doha has gone through enormous economic growth and urbanization processes. The massive migration inflows have suggested particular housing preferences that are driven by the demographic and lifestyle diversities of the multicultural population. Housing preferences of the multicultural population are defined in terms of housing location, cost, and typology. The paper aims to study housing preferences in view of the housing market dynamics in order to recommend future actions for housing planning and expansion. It focuses on the period from 2000 to 2017 where rapid urban development took place in Doha metropolitan considering cultural, sporting, economic, real estate, and political incidents. The methodological approach includes: questionnaire survey of housing preferences, and survey of the perceptions of housing market experts. The paper defines the major shifts in the housing market based on: the sporting events, construction boom, and real-estate boom. It will discuss solutions to reduce the gap between housing supply and demand. Also, it will conclude actions for future housing expansion based on the recommendations by key market experts towards a sustainable local economic growth
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Mode I fracture toughness of optimized alkali-treated Bambusa Vulgaris bamboo by Box-Behnken design.
Alkaline treatment is widely being used to treat natural fibres and it improves the fibre surface for better bonding with the polymer matrix. The aim of this study is to optimize the alkaline treatment variables such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration, soaking and drying time that influence the strength of natural fibres, including bamboo. In this study, Box-Behnken design (BBD) of the response surface method was employed to set an experimental parameter of alkaline treatment for the bamboo specimen. In order to investigate the effect of treatment conditions on crack propagation behaviour of the bamboo along the longitudinal direction, Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (GIC) test was carried out. It can be suggested from the statistical analysis approach (ANOVA) that bamboo treated with 1wt% concentration of NaOH is able to reach fracture toughness value up to 365.86J/m2, which differs by only 0.82% from the experimental finding. It is also shown that all proposed variables for treatment in this study i.e. the concentration of the NaOH is highly significant with the soaking and drying time
Effects of Process Conditions on Calorific Value and Yield of Charcoal Produced from Pyrolysis of Coconut Shells
Charcoal, a black carbon residue, is mostly produced from the major conventional method where the biomass is allowed to be heated for several days in a kiln without studying the process condition. Most of the studies on the pyrolysis process focus on the liquid and gaseous by-products neglecting the solid to be used as a combustion fuel. For this study, charcoal was produced from coconut shells by the thermochemical conversion method of pyrolysis in a controlled nitrogen environment at temperatures of 300 °C, 400 °C, and 500 °C, and residence times of 15 min, 30 min, and 60 min. This was conducted to evaluate the process conditions’ effects concerning the charcoal calorific value and yield. From the results obtained, a high process condition increases the calorific value, which results in a decrease in the charcoal yield. The lowest temperature gives a yield of 70.18 wt% and calorific value of 25.30 MJ/kg while the highest temperature produces a yield for as low as 26.57 wt% and a high calorific value of 30.15 MJ/kg. Furthermore, the charcoal yield tends to decrease from 51.99 to 33.10 wt% and the calorific value increases as the residence time increases from 15 to 45 min. Consequently, the thermal conversion undergone by the biomass may cause the changes of the quality parameters. Thus, charcoal can replace the use of fossil fuels because it presents energy content higher than that of lignite and similar to that of coal.</p
