Physics in the multiverse: an introductory review
6 pagesThis brief note, written for non-specialists, aims at drawing an introductive overview of the multiverse issue
World-making with extended gravity black holes for cosmic natural selection in the multiverse scenario
5 pages, 1 figurePhysics is facing contingency. Not only in facts but also in laws (the frontier becoming extremely narrow). Cosmic natural selection is a tantalizing idea to explain the apparently highly improbable structure of our Universe. In this brief note I will study the creation of Universes by black holes in -string inspired- higher order curvature gravity
Loop quantum gravity and the CMB: toward pre-big bounce cosmology
ISBN 9789814374514, 9789814458030https://doi.org/10.1142/8316International audienceThe loop approach to quantum gravity is the most promising way to derive a background-independent quantization of general relativity. Interestingly, it was shown in the last years that cosmological observations -in particular with tensor modes in the primordial spectrum- could open a new window to observationally probe quantum gravity. I will briefly review the current situation and, assuming a standard evolution for the background, underline the missing links to build a fully consistent framework
Restrictions on curved cosmologies in modified gravity from metric considerations
7 pages, 2 figuresInternational audienceThis study uses very simple symmetry and consistency considerations to put constraints on possible Friedmann equations for modified gravity models in curved spaces. As an example, it is applied to loop quantum cosmology
Relating her ethnobotanical inquiry conducted among the Kasua of Papua New Guinea, the author illustrates the role that Jacques Barrau confered to the botanical drawings as an ethnographical tool to apprehend the living world as well as human’s position within the living world

The chapter concentrates on the intellectual and social identity of the author of the late twelfth-century English law book known as Glanvill, by examining his context, formation and outlook. The method is twofold: first, close engagement with the text, not just what it says, but also how it says it, not just content, but also form and language; secondly, comparison, especially with Richard fitzNigel’s Dialogue of the Exchequer, but also with works from the learned law tradition, in particular the procedural manuals known as Ordines. The chapter explores the processes of composition of the treatise; the significance of its form and style as a means of establishing authority; the ways in which the author identifies with particular courts and particular sources of law; the standing given by specialist knowledge and legal authority; and finally the possible audiences, imagined and real
The observation of cultivation pits on the Tuamotuan atolls followed by researches upon their utilisation process had led the author to meet Jacques Barrau and find out some archaeological analogies. Further investigations and ethnoarchaeological experiments will prove that from Micronesia to Eastern Tuamotu, these technics had been alaborated upon the same trend, even if their persistance had not been the same. Jacques Barrau’s pionneering thoughts have thus been confirmed some decades later
