    A Study on Awareness of Personal Protective Equipment in Workplace ( Case Study: Zaykabar Industrial Zone) ( Aung Myo Win, 2024)

    This study investigates the current situation of voluntary and governmentsupervised industrial safety management activities in the Zaykabar industrial zone, with a particular focus on the awareness and implementation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The necessary data is collected from 150 factories in the Zaykabar industrial zone. Using a descriptive method, the study reveals that most industrial enterprises have established basic safety elements such as policies, objectives, procedures, and reporting mechanisms. The effectiveness of tripartite management activities, involving the government, employers, and workers, in preventing accidents is widely recognized. Employers commonly provide safety facilities and maintain equipment, though regular safety meetings and PPE training sessions. Nearly all industries possess necessary permits and undergo annual inspections by relevant regulatory bodies. It is also found that, even though they use boilers in their production processes, some businesses do not have boiler licenses. The study highlights the need for improved awareness, consistent training, and enforcement to enhance PPE use to meet the overall safety in Yangon’s industrial sectors

    Surface wave inversion and detection of underground objects

    Laboratory experiments, numerical modelling and field surface wave tests were performed in this research in relation to seismic surface wave methods. From laboratory experiments, multimodal surface wave propagation encountered in pavement systems and soil medium with underground objects were studied. Rayleigh surface wave propagation in semi-infinite domain was studied through finite element (FE) modelling. Selection of appropriate domain size for modelling a semi-infinite domain using non-reflecting boundary conditions (NRBCs) was discussed. Field surface wave tests were conducted at residual soil sites and pavement sites. Newly proposed Weighted Average Velocity (WAVe) inversion algorithm was applied to determine the shear wave velocity profiles of these test sites. Finally, active and passive surface wave measurements were conducted to detect culvert drains located below layered soil media and a pavement system.     Weighted average velocity forward modelling of Rayleigh surface waves

    Forward modelling is an integral part of inversion analyses of surface wave tests to obtain ground stiffness or shear wave velocity profile. Current rigorous forward modelling methods are complex and can be computationally expensive. In this paper, a new forward modelling method, known as weighted average velocity (WAVe) method, is proposed. Phase velocity at a given wavelength, Vφ(λ), is widely accepted to be influenced by properties of soil layers within that wavelength. In WAVe method, the influence of soil properties is accounted for as Vφ(λ) is calculated as a weighted sum of the shear-wave velocity (Vs) of all the soil layers within one wavelength depth. The procedure to obtain Vφ(λ) and hence the dispersion curve of a multilayered soil profile using the WAVe method is outlined. The WAVe method was evaluated using eight published soil profiles with dispersion curves obtained from other forward modelling methods and comparisons showed excellent agreement. Inversion analysis using WAVe method is also illustrated. Due to its efficiency and ease of implementation, the WAVe method can provide real-time evaluation of soil profiles during surface wave tests in the field, which is beneficial for geotechnical site investigation purposes

    Stiffness profiles of residual soil sites using continuous surface wave method

    In this study, continuous surface wave (CSW) tests were conducted to study the dispersion characteristics and stiffness profiles of two unsaturated residual soil sites in Singapore. Rayleigh wave dispersion curves were obtained by plotting measured Rayleigh wave phase velocities (Vij) against frequency. Dispersion characteristics of both sites were found to be normally dispersive. Stiffness profiles were then determined through inversion analyses. The stiffness profiles were found to be in good agreement with stiffness estimated from standard penetration test (SPT) and cone penetration test (CPT) data. The degree of weathering with depth at the two sites was also estimated from stiffness profiles. It was found that both sites have been heavily weathered to a substantial depth.Published Versio

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
