The Impact of the pH on the Concentration of the Released Ogremorphin-Mimic Dye from Double-Network Hydrogels for Glioblastoma Localized Treatment
Glioblastoma (GBM), a highly aggressive brain cancer, poses significant treatment challenges due to its complex microenvironment and low therapeutic efficacy of current approaches. Localized drug delivery systems hold promise for improving therapeutic outcomes. This study investigated the release of an Ogremorphin (OGM)-mimic dye from a double-network hydrogel (DNH) designed for GBM therapy, hypothesizing that the hydrogel would have a steady release of the mimic drug at a lower pH. A polyacrylamide alginate DNH was synthesized, and its swelling behavior, drug-loading efficiency, and release dynamics were evaluated. The hydrogel’s swelling degree was calculated after 72 hours of immersion in distilled water. Drug loading efficiency was determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy, measuring the residual concentration of a fluorescein solution. Dye release was assessed under various pH conditions from 4-8, simulating the tumor microenvironment (TME), with cumulative release profiles analyzed over 228 hours. The hydrogel exhibited a swelling degree of 135.8% and a drug loading efficiency of 87.4%. Drug release was pH-dependent, with minimal release at acidic pH (4 and 5) due to a compact polymer network and an increased release at alkaline pH 8, driven by network swelling. Statistical results from the one-way ANOVA test showed that F(4, 85) = 17.72, p \u3c .001. A post-hoc Tukey test showed a significant difference between the different pH levels. Optimized formulations at pH 4- 6 could minimize burst release, sustain therapeutic levels, and improve patient outcomes. These findings demonstrated the hydrogel’s pH-responsive properties made it a strong candidate for GBM therapy
Innovative Temperature-Responsive Fluorescent Hydrogel for Smart Windows and Advanced Environmental Sensing
The presented study described the synthesis, characterization, and temperature-responsive fluorescence behaviour of a dual-chromophore double-network hydrogel (DNH) that incorporates poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) covalently crosslinked with fluorescein diacrylate (FL-DA), as a primary network, followed by the formation of a secondary poly(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid) (PAMPS) network incorporating fluorene diacrylate (FR-DA) as a second covalently-integrated chromophore. The thermoresponsive PNIPAM/PAMPS hydrogel had a dual-wavelength signaling and mechanically robust structure that could be used for environmental sensing, innovative thermal coatings, and smart surface applications. The temperature-dependent fluorescence spectra were recorded from 5 °C to 60 °C and exhibited two emission bands characteristic of the two chromophores. The increase in temperature produced a decrease in band intensity and a red shift. The short-wave emission characteristic of FR-DA exhibited wavelength shifts of 9 nm and 8 nm, corresponding to overall increases of 2.91% and 2.49%, respectively. FL-DA exhibited a long-wave emission peak that shifted to red by 14 nm, from 511 to 525 nm, corresponding to a 2.74% increase in wavelength over the 5 to 60 OC temperature range. The one-way ANOVA showed F(11, 3600) = 2.20, p \u3c 0.012. A post hoc Tukey test confirmed that the control condition (25 °C) differed across all temperature groups. The increase in temperature altered the degree of polymer hydration, increased chain mobility, and altered chromophore orientation, leading to enhanced non-radiative relaxation and spectral changes. The PNIPAM network undergoes a coil-to-globule transition, which produces a pronounced inflection in the overall fluorescence behavior
Cisza jako symbol śmierci w refleksji Gisele Brelet i Tōru Takemitsu
The link between silence and death has been a recurring theme of human thought and can often be found in reflections on music. Among many attempts to approach this problem, the author of this paper focuses on those done by Gisele Brelet and Tōru Takemitsu. The “faithful companion” of music which “perpetually is born, dies and is born again” – this is one of the ways in which French musicologist describes silence. “For a human being, there is always the duality of life and death. Music as an art form always has to connect vehemently with both” – notices Japanese composer, who in another statement combines silence with “the dark world of death”. Interestingly, both Brelet and Takemitsu arrive at the conclusion that such connotations may well be the source of the fear of silence that affects some composers or performers. Despite different contexts, some analogies to their thought – like connecting silence with nothingness and loneliness – may be also found in the Canadian composer Raymond Murray Schafer’s writings, presented fragmentarily in the last subsection. The differences in the notion of the problem between the authors are, moreover, discussed in this paper.Związek pomiędzy ciszą i śmiercią to wciąż powracający motyw w ludzkiej myśli. Często znajduje on swoje odzwierciedlenie w muzyce.
Contribution to the Analysis of the Construction of Identities Based on Senegalese Migrants’ Belonging to a Brotherhood in Argentina
This article analyzes the identity configuration of Senegalese migrants residing in the city of Buenos Aires, based on their belonging to brotherhoods, understood as religious base communities that have a certain influence in many aspects of their daily lives. Using in-depth interviews and writings about Islam and its expansion in Senegal, but above all the creation and structuring of their communities based on brotherhoods, the author reflects on their effect in the (re)configuration of their community identity in their Argentinean settlements and the processes of re-signification involved.Fil: Kleidermacher, Gisele Paola. From the Sound of the People to the Echoes of the Past: The Versions of La pasión según Trelew, by Tomás Eloy Martínez (1973-2009)
La pasión según Trelew occupies a paradoxical place in the work of Tomás Eloy Martínez. On the one hand, it is the book that changed the author's life, as he himself has described it, and the only one whose writing process went through practically all the stages of his literary work: it originally appeared in 1973 and was re-edited in 1997 and 2009, each time with textual variations introduced by the author. On the other hand, the book seems to constitute the crystallization of a concept of writing, based on trust in absolutes and on the militant confrontation between the true and the false, from which the writer sought to distance himself in later on his career. In this article, we propose to analyze the way in which this displacement is reflected in the different versions of the book. We will see that the versions of 1997 and 2009 tend to dilute the confrontation between truth and falsehood that initially shaped the account of the events that took place in Trelew in 1972. Likewise, the rewritings detract from the People's role as a collective subject that provided the basis for the confrontation between truth and lie that organized the text. Language policies from the semiperiphery: an analysis of author guidelines in Brazilian English-medium journals
The recent rise in the number of English-medium journals in non-Anglophone
countries stems from the hegemony of English in global scholarly
communication, and language requirements outlined by such journals to authors
offer a valuable yet often overlooked source of information in terms of
underlying values and assumptions concerning knowledge production and
circulation. Drawing on the notion of “semiperiphery” to refer to Brazil’s
current standing within global scientific publishing, this exploratory study
focuses on author guidelines of Brazilian English-medium journals indexed in
the SciELO database to map language requirements established for manuscript
submission and to assess, from a discursive perspective, whether they reinforce
or disprove dominant ideologies regarding academic publishing, knowledge
construction and dissemination, and the status of English as the academic lingua
franca. The research data included 98 journal guidelines sections from seven
subject areas, and results suggest that journals across the disciplinary spectrum
endorse the primacy of (native speaker) English in knowledge dissemination,
which calls for a critique of scientific monolingualism on the part of research
incentivo à pesquisa, tanto no Brasil quanto em outros paíse
Far from relating to a univocal origin, testimonial literature has begun several times in the cultural history of Latin America. In this work, we approach one of its beginnings, basing on a study of the Argentine writer Rodolfo Walsh’s work, in the context of the rise of testimony in the Latin American cultural field, which led to its institutionalization as a literary genre in Casa de the Americas, in the early 1970s. We rely on the distinction between authorial and lectorial genericity pointed out by Jean-Marie Schaeffer, to argue that Walsh’s weight as a pioneering author of Latin American testimony, stressed by the intellectuals who promoted the institutionalization of the genre, arose from a retroactive application of such category to Operation Massacre (1957), a text that, from an authorial point of view, was not strictly testimonial. We further argue that Walsh’s factual narrative, which the author himself sought to define as « testimony », strictly speaking constitutes a heterogeneous corpus regarding its generic features, and dynamic from the point of view of the classificatory identity that is subsequently was attributed to it. More generally, as from the institutionalization of gender in the 1970s, heterogeneity and dynamism signify the history of Latin American testimonial literature.Fil: García, Victoria Gisele.
