Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. müsait olduğundan “Gam seni terk eylemez sen eyle terk-i gam biraz” şarkısı gibi güzel
manzumeler yazmıştır, Yahya Kemal’in şiirlerine tehziller ve hicviyeleriyle tanınır”
demektedir. Bu ifadeler ışığında Yaşar Şadi’nin yazdığı birçok şiirinin bulunduğu
kanaatine varılmaktadır. Nitekim tespitlerimize göre onun, İbnülemin’e gönderdiği üç
şiiri dışında, Beyânü’l-Hak ve Mahfil dergilerinde de yayınlanmış şiirleri bulunmaktadır.
Ayrıca Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır’ın metrukâtında da şiirleri yer almaktadır.
Ahmed Süheyl Ünver’de bulunan bir mektubunda Yaşar Şâdi, Elmalılı Muhammed
Hamdi Yazır’ı her cuma günü ziyaret ettiğini ifade etmektedir. Onun bu ziyaretleri
sırasında Elmalılı’ya yazdığı şiirlerden takdim ettiği anlaşılmaktadır. Elmalılı’nın da
Divançe’sinde, “Yaşar Şadi Oğlumuza” başlığıyla ona atfettiği bir gazeli bulunmaktadır.
Çalışmamızın konusu, Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır’ın metrukâtında tespit ettiğimiz
Yaşar Şâdi’ye âit olan ve ilk defa yayınlanacak yedi şiiri üzerinedir ve çalışmamız İsmail
Yaşar Şâdî’nin şiirleri üzerine yapılan ilk çalışmadır. Bu çalışmamız ile klasik Türk
edebiyatı tarihine şairin 5 gazeli, 1 mersiyesi ve 1 koşmadan oluşan toplamda yedi şiiri
daha kazandırılmış olunacaktır.Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal says about İsmail Yaşar Şâdi: “Although his education
was incomplete, he wrote beautiful poems such as the song “grief does not leave you,
you should abandon grief a little”, and he is known for his compositions and satires on
Yahya Kemal’s poems”. In the light of these statements, it is concluded that Yaşar Şadi
wrote many poems. As a matter of fact, according to our findings, apart from the three
poems he sent to İbnülemin, he also had poems published in Beyânü’l-Hak and Mahfil
magazines. In addition, his poems are also included in Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi
Yazır’s collection. In a letter kept by Ahmed Süheyl Ünver, Yaşar Şâdi states that he
visited Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır every Friday. It is understood that he presented
poems he wrote to Elmalılı during these visits. Elmalılı also has a ghazal in his Divançe,
which he attributed to him with the title “Yaşar Şadi Oğlumuza”. The subject of our
study is on the seven poems of Yaşar Şâdi, which we have identified in the manuscripts
of Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır and which will be published for the first time, and
our study is the first study on İsmail Yaşar Şâdî’s poems. With this study, a total of seven
more poems of the poet, consisting of 5 ghazals, 1 mersiyesi and 1 kosma, will be added
to the history of classical Turkish literature

No full text1878-1942 yılları arası yaşamış olan Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, Osmanlı'nın son dönemini ve Cumhuriyet'in ilk dönemlerini görmüş, birbirinden çok farklı olan bu iki dönemi güçlü ilmî birikimi ve dehâ seviyesindeki akıl ve zekâsıyla birleştirebilmiştir. Elmalılı'nın meşhur olduğu eseri, herkesin bildiği Hak Dini Kur'ân Dili adlı tefsiridir. Elmalılı, tefsirinin şöhretinden dolayı farklı alanlarda yazdığı telif ve tercüme eserleri bilinmemekte veya çok az bilinmektedir. Lâkin Elmalılı; tefsir ve meâl, fıkıh/İslam hukuku, tarih, kelâm, edebiyat, şiir ve nesir, mantık, felsefe, dilbilim/belâgat, hüsn-i hat gibi farklı alanlarda da kaynaklık edebilecek eserler telif ve tercüme etmiştir. Şiir yazabilecek derecede Arapça, Farsça ve Türkçe dillerine hâkim olan Elmalılı, Divançe'si olan bir âlimdir. Divançe'sindeki Arapça şiirleri bu konudaki kudretini gözler önüne sermektedir. Divançe'sinde, Türkçe manzûmelerden 134 şiir, ayrıca tespit edebildiğimiz 10 adet Arapça şiiri bulunmaktadır. Çalışmamız; 1. Metin oluşturulmasında izlenen yol ve Divançe'nin transkripsiyonlu metni bölümlerinden oluşmaktadır.Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, who lived between 1878-1942, saw the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the first periods of the Republic of Turkey, and was able to combine these two periods, which were very different from each other, with his strong scientific knowledge and genius level mind and intelligence. The work that Elmalılı is famous for is the tafsir of Hak Dini Kur'an Dili, which everyone knows. Due to the fame of his tafsir, Elmalılı's writing and translation works in different fields are almost not known or known very little. However, Elmalılı has also wrote and translated works that can be a source for different fields such as tafsir and translation, fiqh/ Islamic law, history, theology, literature, poetry and prose, logic, philosophy, linguistics/rhetoric, calligraphy. Elmalılı, who has a good command in Arabic, Persian and Turkish languages to write poetry, is a scholar who has a Divançe. The Arabic poems in his Divançe reveal his power on this subject. In his Divançe, there are 134 poems in Turkish and 10 poems in Arabic that we can identify. Our work is composed of four chapters; 1. Elmalılı's life, literary personality, craftsmanship, mystical aspect and works, 2. The morphological features of his Divançe, 3. The content features of the Divançe and its copy, 4. The way he followed in the creation of the text and the transcription of the Divançe
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
