Bio-PEPA is a recently defined language for the modelling and analysis of biochemical networks. It supports an abstract style of modelling, in which discrete levels of concentration within a species are considered instead of individual molecules. A finer granularity for the system corresponds to a smaller concentration step size and therefore to a greater number of concentration levels. This style of model is amenable to a variety of different analysis techniques, including numerical analysis based on a CMTC with states reflecting the levels of concentration.

In this paper we present a formal definition of the CTMC with levels derived from a Bio-PEPA system. Furthermore we investigate the relationship between this CTMC and the system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) derived from the same model. Using Kurtz's theorem, we show that the set of ODEs derived from the Bio-PEPA model is able to capture the limiting behaviour of the CTMC obtained from the same system. Finally, we define an empirical methodology to find the granularity of the Bio-PEPA system for which the ODE and the CTMC with levels are in a good agreement. The proposed definition is based on a notion of distance between the two models. We demonstrate our approach on a model of the Repressilator, a simple biochemical network with oscillating behaviour.</p&gt

This article proposes an exploratory, descriptive and hermeneutical study of the erotic poetry in Nacer del fuego, of the Galician Pepa Nieto. This approach is based on the anthropological structures of the imaginary and the concept of eroticism as celebration of the body, driving and harmonic Creation force, symbol of the progress, and mystic-loving scheme. The symbolical approach of Nieto’s poetry imaginary allows observing the existential, loving, erotic and mystical plenitude of the lyrical subject. This dynamical plenitude is integrated by structure belonging to the diurnal, nocturnal and copulative regimes. Therefore, the experience of solitude, the distressing passing of time, the falling, the purification, the light, the elevation, the sea, the save place, the quiet night, the joy, the sensuality, the fire, the poetics of reverie and the cyclical time experience interact at a relatively balanced dynamism. The analysis of the archetypical, symbolical and mythical structures allows also establishing dialogues with Nieto plastic production. These dialogues increase the scope of the ideology and aesthetic of this author.

Self-complexity and depresion [sic] outcomes in adolescent siblings of individuals with ASD

Self-concept can be defined as a collection of ideas about the self. The structure of self-concept, as measured by self-complexity, can be broken into two factors: the number of roles one identifies as being important to the self, and the distinctness of these roles. Research has suggested that high total self-complexity, and high positive complexity, is seen as a protective factor. Conversely, high negative complexity is considered a risk factor. These self-attributions originate at a young age, and are formed through social mechanisms, such as social feedback and social comparison. In this way, significant relationships, including family, have an important role in shaping an individual’s self-concept. While much of the literature has focused on the influence of parents, research also suggests that siblings are significant figures. However, when an individual with autism is introduced into the family unit, the sibling relationship is significantly changed. This results from decreased social feedback and increased family stress, which may influence the formation of self-concept. The present study looked at the self-concept of 15 adolescent siblings of individuals with autism (ASD group) and compared this to the self-concept of 18 adolescents with a neurotypical sibling (Control group). Study participants were also asked to fill out questionnaires related to their overall well-being, including measures of depression symptoms, social support, negative life events, and the sibling relationship. Overall, results suggested that siblings in the ASD group fared as well as siblings in the Control group. They did not significantly differ on depression scores, social support, negative life events, or general self-complexity. There was some differentiation in sibling self-concept, with the ASD group showing more distinct sibling roles. Further, the findings of the present study supported the hypothesis that high negative self-complexity is positively related to depression scores. Lastly, it was found that distinctness among roles had a positive relationship with depression in the clinical group. This study yielded important information about siblings of individuals with autism, and adolescent self-concept more generally. The implications of the present findings, limitations, and future directions are also discussed.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Lauren A. Pep

New technologies have broken into the daily life of each of us and have established and strengthened imminently. Problem: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of a scale measuring children's self-efficacy and proxy efficacy for physical activity at after-school programs and at home. Proxy efficacy was defined as children's confidence in their skills and abilities to get adults to act in their interest to provide physical activity opportunities. Methods: Children (grades 4 through 6) attending after-school programs completed a self-efficacy questionnaire relevant to their physical activity. Factorial validity was assessed with an exploratory factor analysis (n = 107) and a confirmatory factor analysis (n = 187). Next, criterion-related validity was assessed using a mixed-model analysis of covariance with school as a random effect and children level variables as fixed effects. Internal consistency reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Results: The questionnaire assessed three separate constructs: self-efficacy to be physically active (SEPA), proxy efficacy to influence parents to provide physical activity opportunities (PEPA-P), and proxy efficacy to influence after-school staff to provide physical activity opportunities (PEPA-S). Males had greater SEPA than females. Children who perceived greater physical activity opportunities during after-school time had greater SEPA, PEPA-P, and PEPA-S than children attending schools with fewer physical activity opportunities. Children attending schools with lower concentrations of racial/ethnic diversity and higher socioeconomic status (SES) had greater PEPA-P compared to children attending greater racial/ethnic diversity and low-SES schools. Conclusions: Self-efficacy for physical activity is a multicomponent construct and can be assessed in elementary-aged children using the reliable and valid instrument confirmed in the current study

Process Algebraic - Performance Modeling of Embedded Software

A compiler for embedded platforms has many optimization flags providing code size and speed improvement. Traditional profiling methods take lot of time to identify the best combination of the compiler flags to suit the requirement especially if the software stack is very huge. AUTOSAR is one such growing software market in which there is a need for rapid performance assessment. In this thesis a means to estimate the performance of a program using the process algebraic language (PEPA) is investigated. The assembly program is converted in to the PEPA model and the performance measures obtained by solving the model is verified against the actual execution time of the program. The experimental results provide valuable insights on the methodology.Embedded SystemsComputer EngineeringElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
