Paul Levi and the origins of the united-front policy in the communist international
During its first four congresses, held annually under Lenin (1919-22), the Communist International went through two distinct phases: while the first two congresses focused on programmatic and organisational aspects of the break with Social-Democratic parties (such as the 'Theses on Bourgeois Democracy and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat', adopted by the first congress, and the 21 'Conditions of Admission to the Communist International', adopted by the second), the third congress, meeting after the putsch known as the 'March Action' of 1921 in Germany, adopted the slogan 'To the masses!', while the fourth codified this new line in the 'Theses on the Unity of the Proletarian Front'. The arguments put forward by the first two congresses were originally drafted by leaders of the Russian Communist Party, but the initiative for the adoption of the united-front policy came from the German Communist Party under the leadership of Paul Levi. This article explores the historical circumstances that turned the German Communists into the pioneers of the united-front tactic. In the documentary appendix we add English versions of two documents drafted by Levi: the 'Letter to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Germany' on the Kapp Putsch, dated 16 March 1920, and the kpd's 'Open Letter' of 8 January 1921, which gave rise to the united-front tactic.Fil: Gaido, Daniel Fernando. This interview addresses the topic of education, having as a guiding line the professional and the intellectual trajectory of the author of the Theory of Subjectivity from a cultural-historical approach, Fernando González Rey. More than a conventional interview, it was a dialogue, which emphasizes the richness and density of the author\u27s living thought. Through his perspective of subjectivity, education is permanently linked to the generation of social relations and spaces geared towards subjective development. Individuals, social groups and institutions are articulated in the organization of educational processes, which are, on the one hand, never detached from history and culture and, on the other hand, aimed at building the futureEsta entrevista aborda o tema da educação, tendo como fio condutor a formação e a trajetória intelectual do autor da Teoria da Subjetividade em uma abordagem cultural-histórica, Fernando González Rey.
Heuristic Schelling: economy of organized crime
This article proposes a reading of the armed conflict from an evolutionary design that takes into account the concept of private protection agencies in the works of Schelling. Their aim is to assess the dynamics of conflict and changes from its author's scientific output. A context of conflicts that includes new expressions of violence and the relative failure of the paramilitary reintegration involves using new analytical models (argumentation, game theory and inconsistent information). The recent evolution of emerging gangs and their expansion into areas that were paramilitary camps requires monitoring not only of the government and the authorities, but those investigating the conflict in the present tense. The author provides heuristic research support from Schelling’s theory of strategy, recent contributions to the relationship between organized crime and drug cartels.Colombia, Government, Civil War, Latin America, Security, Protection Agencies.
The present work concerns the interaction between the use of the Méthode pour la guitare (1830) by Fernando Sor and the process of constructing an interpretation for the Sonata op. 25, by the same author. The work‟s main hypothesis was the association between technical and compositional conceptions of Sor, displayed in his Method, and their correspondent translation into his guitar compositional writing. Through this association, clear relationships were established and the work was conclusive on the positive use of the Method as a complementary tool for the interpretation of Fernando Sor‟s music.El presente trabajo aborda la interacción entre la utilización del Méthode pour la guitare (1830) de Fernando Sor con el proceso de construcción de una interpretación para la Sonata op. 25, del mismo autor. Is the discount on the secondary market a case for LDC debt relief?
In 1988, the prices on the secondary market of LDC debt averaged 50 cents per dollar of face value. From the observation of such discount, this paper goes one step further and argues thatthe debt should be written down in order to account for the discrepancy between the face and market value of the debt. The paper is structured as follows. Section 1 spells out the model, section 2 calculates the socially efficient and the post-default growth rates of the economy. Section 3 shows that the lenders, if they were to monitor the investment and the consumption strategy of the borrower, would choose a lower investment strategy than the socially efficient one. Section 4 shows how an optimum rescheduling can achieve the equilibrium described in section 3. Section 5 shows the dynamic inconsistency of the optimal strategy spelled out in section 4, and shows the link with the"debt overhang"literature. Section 6 investigates the empirical relevance of the"debt overhang".Economic Theory&Research,Banks&Banking Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies,Strategic Debt Management,Financial Intermediation
The work of Alcino Soutinho is undoubtedly important for Portuguese Architecture. Starting from the aim of developing a review of the design of one of these works, the house of Afife, this study became an opportunity for the author to rediscover the legacy of Soutinho.
The above mentioned review is presented, particularly focusing on the pragmatism of Alcino Soutinho to present a solution that results from the functional program and the attention to the local characteristics. This study also presents personal reflections regarding the lessons that can be learned from the work of Alcino Soutinho and other architects, mainly for architecture students.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Rudolf Hilferding on English Mercantilism
In 1911 Rudolf Hilferding, the author of the famous book Finance Capital: A Study of the Latest Phase of Capitalist Development, published an article on the history of English mercantilism in Die neue Zeit, the theoretical organ of the Social Democratic Party of Germany edited by Karl Kautsky. The writing of the article was motivated by the publication, the previous year, of the third volume of Theories of Surplus-Value, containing Marx’s analysis of the work of Richard Jones, as well as by the simultaneous appearance of a German edition of Thomas Mun’s England’s Treasure by Forraign Trade. This article introduces the present author’s English translation of Hilferding’s article on mercantilism, titled “The Early Days of English Political Economy,” previously available only in German, and contextualizes it in the framework of the history of Marxist scholarship.Fil: Gaido, Daniel Fernando.
