Treatment of dry eye: An analysis of the British Sjögren's Syndrome Association comparing substitute tear viscosity and subjective efficacy
Purpose: This study aims to address the lack of independent subjective efficacy data on artificial tear substitutes in the treatment of dry eye due to the anecdotal association of 'thicker' products being more effective. Methods: This is an independent study of the subjective use and efficacy of topical treatments used by members of the British Sjögren's Syndrome Association (BSSA) related to product viscosity. 2000 members of the BSSA were sent a questionnaire regarding their physical condition and the use of artificial tear substitutes. Viscosity analysis was performed on the most popular preparations. Statistical comparison is made between subjective efficacies related to substitute tear viscosity. Results: 1088 patients responded giving information regarding their condition together with the subjective use and efficacy data of artificial tear substitutes. Visco-analysis was performed on the most popular preparations; these had more than 50 patients using them. In terms of subjective benefits related to viscosity for 'frequency' and 'duration' the data suggests a general trend toward viscous preparations being instilled less frequently and lasting longer; however this was not shown to be significantly correlated and some interesting comparisons are reported. Conclusions: The results confirm high levels of ocular lubricant use in the BSSA population. Our data investigates the often-anecdotal evidence that thicker preparations are more effective. However, we did not find this correlation to be statistically significant suggesting further study into factors related to subjective product efficacy. These results lay foundations for the development of future products in the treatment of severe dry eye. © 2011 British Contact Lens Association

Rancang Bangun Aplikasi Al Wirdul Jalil Berbasis Mobile
Wirdul jalil is a collection of prayers and dhikr compiled by TGH. Afifudin Adnan is a student of Mawlanasysyaikh Tuan Guru Kyai Hajji Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid and also the founder of the Al Mukhtariyah Al Islamiyah Foundation. Wirdul jalil has become compulsory reading for congregations and students of the Al Mukhtariah Al Islamiyah Foundation and almost every year, the Al Mukhtariyah Al Islamiyah Islamic boarding school prints wirdul jalil. Then it was distributed to students and the congregation of Al Mukhtariyah Al Islmiyah to replace wirdul that had been damaged by age or lost. With the above problems, the author intends to design and build a mobile application that can produce jam'ah and students of the Al Mukhtariah Al Islamiyah Foundation in getting wirdul jalil without having to print it first, with this application congregations and students of the Al Mukhtariah Al Foundation Islamiyah can install it on a mobile device. That way, the congregation and students can read Wirdul Jalil practically on their mobile devices, and in the end the application can be used further

Volumetric Biomarkers of Visual Outcome after Surgical Repair in Lamellar Macular Holes
Background: We investigate novel OCT parameters, based on the volumetric analysis of lamellar macular holes (LMHs), as prognostic indicators for visual outcomes after surgery. Methods: LMHs were divided into degenerative LMHs (D-LMHs) and ERM-foveoschisis (ERM-FS). Pre-operative clinical, OCT linear and volumetric parameters were collected. Volumes were obtained using the OCT automatic segmentation, such as central retinal volume (CRV) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) volume, or using a novel method to calculate volumes of specific LMH entities like epiretinal proliferation (ERP), foveal cavity (FC) in D-LMH and schitic volume (SV) in ERM-FS. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis evaluated the factors predictive for post-operative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Results: We included 31 eyes of 31 patients (14 D-LMH,17 ERM-FS). A pre-operative BCVA ≤ 0.48 logMAR was a predictor for achieving ≤0.30 logMAR at final follow-up. A lower pre-operative BCVA (p = 0.008) and the presence of ERP (p = 0.002) were associated with worse visual outcomes post-surgery. Moreover, novel pre-operative OCT parameters significantly associated with worse post-operative BCVA, such as increased FC volume (p = 0.032) and lower CRV (p = 0.034) in the D-LMH subtype and lower CRV (p < 0.001) and ERP volume (p < 0.001), higher SV (p < 0.001) and foveal ONL volume (p < 0.001) in the ERM-FS subtype. Conclusions: Novel volumetric OCT parameters can be prognostic indicators of visual outcome following surgery in LMHs

Internationalisation of the Islamic thought: the contributions of Sayyed Ismail (1936-2010) / Sayyed Mohamed Muhsin and Mohd. Noh Abdul Jalil
This paper examines the intellectual contributions of Sayyed Ismail Bukhari (1936-2010), a great scholar, author and reformer from South India. Sayyed Ismail, who is also locally known as Panoor Thangal, produced seminal works on Quranic exegesis, hadith, fiqh and theology during his lifetime. Despite the profound personality and pivotal works, no serious studies are found which critically scrutinise his theses on Islamic thought and religious studies. In addition, his books, mainly written in Arabic and some of them even published in some Arab countries, shed light on his Islamic thought, which upholds the dimensions of relevantization of Islamic knowledge. He exclusively chose Arabic, not his mother tongue Malayalam, in his writings for a reason. His target audience is not limited to his community in Kerala only but also the Muslim world. This paper analyses his works to further understand the contributions and impacts of Sayyed Ismail to Islamic thought in light of his various academic engagements and activism. Sayyed Ismail is indeed a reformer from Kerala whose reform works involve bringing the Muslim communities to champion the cause of humanity based on the teachings of Islam
