Ethnologue amateur qui fut l’un des premiers à valoriser le patrimoine culturel acadien, le père Arsenault est surtout entré dans l’histoire grâce à la collecte systématique qu’il a effectuée de chansons acadiennes traditionnelles. En remettant ces dernières au Musée national du Canada, Arsenault a garanti leur transmission à la postérité, un legs qui s’est avéré des plus précieux.The author provides us with an overview of the life and work of Father Pierre-Paul Arsenault, whose ministry was based on Prince Edward Island for more than 30 years (until he died in 1927). An amateur ethnologist who was one of the very first to recognize the value of the cultural heritage of Acadians, Father Arsenault is remembered, above all, as the tireless collector of traditional Acadian folksongs whose preservation by the National Museum of Canada has given to posterity an irreplaceable cultural resource

    A member of the USF faculty since 1980, Raymond O. Arsenault specializes in the social, political, and environmental history and historiography of the American South, though his teaching and research interests cover nearly all areas of American history, culture, and civilization. He serves as the John Hope Franklin Professor of Southern History. In the summer of 1998, Arsenault donated some of his research files and miscellaneous materials to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. In 2001, 2004, and 2008, he sent additional materials for preservation as part of this collection. This guide includes accessions through the spring of 2008
