Mariya Halych and the members of “Lanka” (“The Link”)
The article is dedicated Mariya Halych who was the only female member of “Lanka” literary association (after 1926 renamed “Mars”). The author gives an account on the artist’s biography and reviews her literary texts written between the 20s and the 60s. Mariya Halych’s autobiographies, her reminiscences of B. Antonenko-Davydovych, H. Kosynka, Ye. Pluzhnyk as well as letters to a well-known literary critic V. Pivtoradnia complete the vivid picture of literary and artistic environment in the 1920s and in the fi rst half of the 1930s. Such a picture contains a whole bunch of previously unknown details concerning the everyday life of “Lanka” and its members
Eigenfrequencies of the randomly pinned drum and conductivity of graphene
Graphene is a convenient material for nanomechanical applications since high-frequency oscillations are easily accessible. In this article, we consider graphene on a rough substrate attached to imperfections at random locations. We explore the statistics of low-lying phonon modes, which exert most influence on the conductivity of graphene. Our numerics suggest the hypothesis that the nearest-neighbor spacings of low-lying eigenfrequencies have the Wigner-Dyson probability distribution after averaging over the random configurations of disorder. Due to interaction of electrons with the oscillations of the membrane, an electron can be transferred to higher or lower energies, which is a manifestation of the phonon-assisted Tien-Gordon effect. The Tien-Gordon effect suppresses the conductivity of graphene. In the regime of low Fermi energies and small sizes of the sample an increase of conductivity is observed which we refer to as Klein tunneling and electron-hole pair creation. Eventually, when the increase of the transmission becomes too prominent, the pair creation changes the ground state of the system, signalizing the limit of applicability of the single-particle Dirac equation used in this article.QN/Quantum NanoscienceApplied Science
The mother’s image in the novel of mariya matios "mothers"
Буряк О. Ф.
(en) The article comprehends the artistic specificity of the mother’s image in Mariya Matios' new novel "Mothers" (2023), to which the author gives the genre definition "drama in six acts", which emphasizes the ideological and thematic
dominants, the pathos of the work. The women’s images in this novel enrich the author's gallery of dramatic images of mothers in other works of the writer ("Mother Marica, the Wife of Chrystopher Columbus", "Sweet Darusya", "Almost Never the Other Way Around", short stories from the collection "Nation"). The key problem of a woman's existence "mother and child" is understood by the author in close relationship with other problems: society's attitude towards the
mother, the social status of the mother of a son killed in the war, the problem of loneliness, the meaning of life. The end-to-end psychological plot of the "drama in six acts" – the mother's experience of the death of her child – is analyzed: the personal apocalypses in the minds of five heroines are depicted, each of which is dedicated to a separate chapter of the novel: "Mother Mariya" (Ukraine. Now and Already Forever), " Mother Verontsya" (Ukraine. 2015), "Mother Mykhailyna" (Ukraine. In time and between 1953 and 2015), "Mother Sydoniya" (Ukraine), "Mother Mamaya". The writer deeply understands the manifestations of the collective femininity, maternal consciousness
and subconscious, nuancedly recreating the spectrum of feelings, emotions, states of a woman. The final emotional chord in the work is the so-called sixth act, placed after the prose part of the text, "Piyeta", in which the mother's image is raised to the biblical level through the allusion produced by the title. To reproduce the intimate, secret thoughts and feelings of a woman, the author uses various forms of internal speech: monologue, dialogue, imaginary dialogue.
To reproduce the intimate, secret thoughts and woman's feelings, the author uses various forms of internal speech: monologue, dialogue, imaginary dialogue. In the novel "Mothers" the "eternal" motif of a mother's boundless love for her
child is embodied in a dramatic way. The relevance of the work is expressed by the depiction of the modern historical context – the ATO, the modern Russian-Ukrainian war, but above all – by its emotional resonance with the feelings and experiences of modern mothers

Design and implimentation of a supervisory safety controller for a 3DOF helicopter
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 2004.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Includes bibliographical references (p. 79-80).This research effort presents the design and implementation of a supervisory controller for a 3DOF helicopter. This safety critical system is used in undergraduate laboratories in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT. There already exists a framework for designing a supervisory safety controller for motions about one axis. It is based on an analytical description of the safety region in state space. However, this framework cannot be easily extended to more complicated systems such as a 3DOF helicopter. In this thesis we present a different approach which uses a real-time simulation of linearized plant dynamics with a feedback law to ensure the system's safety. We describe the development of the system model, the design and implementation of the supervisory safety controller, integration of the safety controller as part of a remote laboratory and its evaluation based on its performance during laboratory exercises.by Mariya A. Understanding the rich world of outfits: a study of fashion compatibility, latent style, and outfit behavior
Many computer vision applications in the fashion domain require solving tasks where complex relationships between images, such as the notion of item compatibility, are being learned. We take a metric learning approach to representing compatibility between pairs of items. First, we introduce a model that learns compatibility relationships in dedicated embedding subspaces dependent on item type, which results in significant gains on established fashion compatibility prediction tasks. Second, we present a method for learning a richer notion of compatibility across multiple compatibility conditions whose contributions are learned as a latent variable, which provides better performance on established tasks while requiring fewer embedding subspaces to be learned. Third, we make the first published attempt at diagnosing the salient features of a pair of items that make them compatible, and linking them to human-interpretable concepts. Finally, we demonstrate that our representation of outfits enables diverse, novel, and practically-useful visual search queries for the fashion domain, and results in semantically-meaningful style summaries with several directions for future work.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'Closed Access', the embargo will last until 2022-08-01The student, Mariya Vasileva, accepted the attached license on 2020-07-17 at 16:21.The student, Mariya Vasileva, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2020-07-17 at 16:57.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2020-07-22 at 16:02.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #15686 on 2020-10-02 at 15:51:30Made available in DSpace on 2020-10-07T22:50:04Z (GMT). Providing the cloud security by design patterns
The problem of providing the security of cloud services is becoming more popular as the use and availability of cloud services increases. Besides small and medium-sized businesses, and governments use cloud technology to reduce information costs and increase the availability and scope of offering services. Cloud technologies are expected to meet the increased security requirements. Enhanced requirements makes difficult development of cloud computing sevices and infrastructure. One way to overcome these difficulties is to use design patterns that aid applying of useful security practices. For their application is necessary a research of the variety of design patterns offered by different organizations and scientists. That's why the research object in the paper is design patterns that support improving cloud security. Some security issues and design patterns that aid to solve them are addressed
Applying patterns to e-government
This paper present design patterns which simplifies the process of developing, deploying, and managing complex, integrated, and standards-compliant E-government applications. The patterns can be used at different levels and layers of E-government’s architecture. Architecture Patterns are the highest layer patterns and have a high level of abstraction. Their aim is to present the different system components and their collaboration through a conceptual model. In the middle layer are design patterns. In e-government, security and object-oriented design patterns are most used. The design patterns application allows to improve the performance of the existing solution, the flexibility and scalability, security and to keep the applications up to date and to incorporate the new requirements. E-government web design patterns allow to create intuitive websites that are suitable for different user categories
The dark patterns for the user interface
The theory of interaction with user aims to understand the user needs аnd to develop an interface that optimizes the users work. But some developers use this knowledge to design interfaces that make people inadvertently agree to share more data than they intend, or spend more money than planned, by using various psychological motives and outright deception. These approaches in interface development are defined as dark patterns. They are found in websites, social media platforms, mobile applications and games. The theme remains relevant regardless of the EU's GDPR. The purpose of the report is to identify and detect commonly used dark patterns. The main dark patterns groups and the problems they cause are studied
Opportunities for applying AI in big cities
The urban population is constantly growing, with migration towards the big cities. As the population increases, the problems of big cities deepen - traffic, crime, pollution. As a result of the search for solutions to the problems, the concept of smart cities arose. The goal is to make life in cities more comfortable, healthy and peaceful. To achieve these goals is based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as machine learning, video image processing and neural networks. Thanks to them, many tasks related to planning, monitoring and management can be solved. The problems of cities range from solving household issues to managing infrastructures. The smart city offers some solutions in the field of traffic, environment, waste management, energy provision, intelligent transport, planning, etc. The aim of the paper is to examine the possible applications of the smart city and present a conceptual model
