    Nell’articolo sono illustrati due aspetti della produzione artistica parigina incentrata sulla figura di Dante tra la fine del XIX e l’inizio del XX secolo. Il primo esempio riguarda la funzione pubblica e sociale, agli albori della Terza Repubblica francese, della statua di Dante realizzata dallo scrittore Jean-Paul Aubé e collocata dinanzi al Collège de France. Agli antipodi della celebrazione ufficiale si colloca il secondo esempio: la rilettura esoterica dell’Alighieri. Sul finire dell’Ottocento Joséphin Péladan fondò la Rosa-Croce Cattolica del Tempio e del Graal o Rose Croix esthétique, inaugurando a Parigi il Salone della Rosacroce (1892- 1897), un appuntamento artistico unico nel suo genere. Le affiches pubblicitarie e i cataloghi che accompagnarono gli eventi rivelano una particolare predilezione per Dante, tentando di iscriverlo all’interno della tradizione rosacruciana

    Charting the phase diagram of QCD3

    We study the phase diagram of SU (N) gauge theory in three space-time dimensions with a Chern-Simons term at level k, coupled to two sets of fundamental fermions with masses m1 and m2, respectively. The two-dimensional phase diagram that we propose shows a rich structure and widens in an interesting way previous results in the literature, to which it reduces in some limits. We present several checks of our proposal, including consistency with boson/fermion dualities.     Photocatalytic processes in membrane reactors

    Photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs) represent an interesting alternative technology useful both in the field of water and air purification and in organic syntheses. The necessity to develop chemical products and industrial processes that reduce or eliminate the use and the generation of toxic substances along with the risk for human health and for environment constitutes the aim of the research efforts based on the principles of green chemistry. Heterogeneous photocatalysis is a technology extensively studied for about three decades, since Fujishima and Honda1 discovered the photocatalytic splitting of water on TiO2 electrodes in 1972, which includes a large range of reactions. When a separation membrane method is coupled with a photocatalytic process, it is possible to obtain a synergistic effect minimizing environmental and economic impacts. In this hybrid system, in fact, the radicals produced by irradiation of the catalyst were exploited to perform partial or total redox reactions leading to selective products or clarified solutions, which can be separated by the membrane. Several characteristics make PMR a green technology, as the safety of the photocatalyst used, the mild operative conditions, the possibility to operate in continuous mode, in which the recovery of the catalyst, the reactions, and the products separation occur in one step, with a remarkable time and cost saving. The choice of an appropriate membrane and the knowledge of the parameters influencing the photocatalytic process represent, therefore, an important step in the design of a PMR. Besides, the possibility to perform the photocatalytic reactions using the solar light makes this process very interesting for future industrial applications

    Vacuum structure of large N QCD3 from holography

    We study the vacuum structure of three-dimensional SU(N) gauge theory coupled to a Chern-Simons term at level k and to F fundamental Dirac fermions. We use a large N holographic description based on a D3/D7 system in type IIB string theory compactified on a supersymmetry breaking circle. The multiple vacua of the theory and the transitions between them are nicely captured by the dual holographic background. The resulting phase diagram, which we derive both at leading and first subleading orders in the 1/N expansion, shows a rich structure where topological field theories, non-linear sigma models and first-order phase transitions appear.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

    A holographic perspective on phonons and pseudo-phonons

    We analyze the concomitant spontaneous breaking of translation and conformal symmetries by introducing in a CFT a complex scalar operator that acquires a spatially dependent expectation value. The model, inspired by the holographic Q-lattice, provides a privileged setup to study the emergence of phonons from a spontaneous translational symmetry breaking in a conformal field theory and offers valuable hints for the treatment of phonons in QFT at large. We first analyze the Ward identity structure by means of standard QFT techniques, considering both spontaneous and explicit symmetry breaking. Next, by implementing holographic renormalization, we show that the same set of Ward identities holds in the holographic Q-lattice. Eventually, relying on the holographic and QFT results, we study the correlators realizing the symmetry breaking pattern and how they encode information about the low-energy spectrum.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
