Examination of computer game addiction in terms of family protective factors and demographic variables (Bursa province case)
Bu araştırmanın amacı; ortaokul öğrencilerinin bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı düzeylerini ailedeki koruyucu etkenler ve kişisel özellikler açısından incelemektir. Çalışmada betimsel araştırma modellerinden genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma evrenini Bursa il merkezinde yer alan resmi ortaokullarda öğrenim gören öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu ise belirtilen evren içerisinden seçilen 945 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Veri toplama araçları olarak “Çocuklar İçin Bilgisayar Oyun Bağımlılığı Ölçeği” (Horzum,2008) ve ‘‘Ailedeki Koruyucu Etkenler Ölçeği’’(Danışman ve Köksal, 2011) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistikler (frekans, yüzde, ortalama), Kruskal Wallis H- Testi, Mann Whitney U-Testi, Kolmogorov- Smirnov Testi ve Pearson korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğrencilerin bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı düzeylerinin düşük seviyede olduğu görülmüştür. Cinsiyet değişkeni açısından erkek öğrencilerin, kadın öğrencilere göre bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı yüksek bulunmuştur. Ayrıca öğrencilerin bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı düzeylerinde, anne-baba durumlarına (birlikte-ayrı-üvey), bilgisayar oynama sıklığı, tercih ettikleri oyun türüne göre anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmazken; sınıf düzeyi, anne-baba eğitim düzeyi, sosyoekonomik durum, günlük bilgisayar kullanım süresi, bilgisayar kullanımlarının ebeveynleri tarafından kontrol edilip edilmemesi, evlerinde internetin olup olmaması ve oyun oynama aracı değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin bilgisayar oyun bağımlılığı düzeyi ile ailedeki koruyucu etkenler ölçeği toplam puanı arasında [r=-.12**] negatif yönde anlamlı ilişkiler saptanmıştır.The aim of this study is to examine the computer game addiction level of the secondary school students in terms of family protective and demographic factors. In the study, survey method, one of the qualitative methods, was used. The study population consists of the students studying at the secondary schools in the city center of Bursa. The sample of the study consisted of 945 students selected from the determined population. In the study, “The Computer Game Addiction Scale for Children” (Horzum, 2008) and, “The Family Protective Measures Scale” (Danışman and Koksal, 2011) were used as data collection tools. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to determine whether the data distribution was normal. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean), Kruskal Wallis H-Test, Mann Whitney U-Test, and Pearson correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, it was seen that students' computer game addiction was at low level. In terms of gender variable, male students were found to be more addictive than female students. In addition, there were no significant differences in computer game addiction level of the students in terms of parental status (together-divorced-step), frequency of computer playing, and the type of games they preferred. On the contrary, significant differences were determined according to the educational level of parents, socioeconomic status, daily computer usage period, whether computer use is controlled by the parents, whether students have computers in their homes, and game tool. Moreover, significant negative relationships (r = -. 12 **) were found between the level of computer game addiction and the total score of the family protective factors
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Assessment of concentration physicochemical parameters and heavy metals in Kızılırmak river, Turkey.
Kızılırmak is the longest river of Turkey and the most important one as a resource for various water
uses. Therefore Kızılırmak river basin is under pressure from a diverse range of human activities.
Six stations were sampled along the Kızılırmak river located in Nevsehir city during 2013–2014 seasonally.
The physico-chemical parameters (water temperature, biological oxygen demand (BOD),
chemical oxygen demand (COD), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), conductivity, nitrite (NO3), ammonium
(NH4), ammonia (NH3), phosphate (PO4), sulfate (SO4) and some metal concentrations (Zn, Cu,
B, Cr, Ni, Pb, Hg, As, Se, Sb, Mn, Cd and Al) were measured in the water samples to determine the
water quality of the Kızılırmak river. When the water quality classes were examined in terms of the
measured physico-chemical parameters, it was detected that the river is IV. class for nitrite, III. class
for BOD, phosphate and pH, II. class for NH4–N. The results showed that the heavy metal concentrations
in water of the Kızılırmak river were within the quality class I. limits of the EPA and WPCR.The authors wish to thank to Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli

Kızılırmak Nehri’nin BOİ, PO₄-P, NO₂, NH₄-N ortalama konsantrasyonları “Kıta İçi Su Kaynaklarının Sınıflarına Göre Kalite Kriterleri’nde” belirtilen değerlere göre II. Sınıf, III.Sınıf ve IV. Sınıf kalite özelliği gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. İstasyonlardaki dağılım konsantrasyonları haritalardaverilmiştir.Bu çalışma; Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli Üniversitesi, Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri birimi tarafından desteklenmiştir (NEUBAP13F22 nolu proje)
Zoobenthos of lake uluabat, a ramsar site in Turkey, and their relationship with environmental variables.
The numerical and proportional distributions of zoobenthos in lake Uluabat, which
is located in the Northwestern part of Turkey and having international importance
according to the Ramsar Convention, were determined from August 2004 to July
2005 at monthly intervals (except for December 2004, January and February 2005) at
12 different stations. Thirty-three taxonomic groups were recorded. It was found that
the zoobenthos consisted of 35.6% Oligochaeta, 27.7% Nematoda, 12.3% Chironomidae
larvae, 10.7% Gastropoda, 3.6% Ostracoda, and 10.1% Varia by numbers (Bivalvia,
Ceratopogonidae, Hirudinea, Odonata, Ephemeroptera, Asilidae, Hydraacarina, Hemiptera,
Argulidae, and Gammaridae). The average number of invertebrates was 160
individuals for 33 taxa at the 12 different stations. Also some environmental parameters
of the lakewater were analyzed (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, biochemical
oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, NO2–N, NO3–N, NH3–N, PO4
– 3, fecal coliform,
and total coliform). The relationships between the dynamics of the Oligochaeta
and the physicochemical variables were supported by the Pearson correlation index
and the canonical correspondence analysis (CANOCO). It was found that the relation
between the average number of P. hammoniensis and P. albicola (p a 0.05, r = 0.590 and
0.593, respectively) and L. hoffmeisteri (p a 0.01, r = 0.777) was directly proportional
while the relation between the average number of some taxa Trichodrillus sp., Rhyacodrilus
coccineus, Nais communis, N. variabilis, and N. barbata and NO3–N (p a 0.05, r = –0.685)
was inversely proportional. This study was supported by the Research Fund of the Eskisehir
