Get PDFLa tesis central de este artículo es que la negociación de paz, concebida desde la racionalidad estratégica, depende en sus resultados de factores que ella misma no está en capacidad de asegurar. El autor se refiere a factores como las emociones morales, a saber: la compasión, la vergüenza, la indignación o el resentimiento. Estas emociones, por su estructura y contenido cognitivo, deben ser tenidas en cuenta si a lo que se pretende llegar es a una paz duradera. La exposición se divide en tres partes. Primero se caracterizan las emociones a partir de las reflexiones de Elster –en “Rationality and the Emotions” (1996) y “Sobre las pasiones. Emoción, adicción y conducta humana” (2001)–, con el propósito de precisar las funciones generales que desempeñan las emociones en la toma de decisiones prácticas. Segundo, se describe a grandes rasgos el proceso de negociación de paz vigente en Colombia, y ello a partir de unos criterios que permiten clasificarlo como un acuerdo de racionalidad instrumental (en sentido hobbesiano). Por último, se evalúan los posibles efectos que para los resultados de la negociación puede tener la incorporación o el desconocimiento de las emociones en dicha negociación racional, en particular la eficacia y validez de las normas jurídicas que guían la negociación.The central thesis of this article is that the results of peace negotiation, conceived in strategic rationality, depend on factors that cannot be guaranteed. The author refers to emotional states as influencing factors: compassion, shame, indignation, or resentment. Because of their structure and cognitive content, these emotions must be kept in mind if one purports to achieve lasting peace. The article in divided into three parts. One, a description of the emotions based on Elster’s reflections in Rationality and the Emotions (1996) and Strong Feelings: Emotion, Addiction and Human Behavior (1999), with the objective of specifying the role that emotions play in making practical decisions. Two, it describes the general characteristics of the current peace negotiation in Colombia, based on criteria that allow this to be classified as an accord of instrumental rationality (in the Hobbesian sense). Three, it assesses the possible effects that awareness or ignorance of the emotions could have on rational negotiation, in particular the efficacy and validity of the legal considerations that guide the negotiation process
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textEl presente artículo critica la creciente confusión que se presenta en la actualidad política entre los conceptos de derechos y fi nes políticos. Tal confusión es funcional a la persecución de metas colectivas en desmedro de los derechos individuales. A partir de la diferencia constitucional entre los derechos y los fi nes políticos, basada a su vez en la diferencia entre argumentos de principio y argumentos políticos, el artículo defi ende el modelo de Estado constitucional y democrático de derecho consagrado en la Constitución colombiana de 1991, y rechaza las tendencias políticas actuales que buscan manipular a los individuos para alcanzar fines colectivos.This article criticizes the increasing confusion that appears at the politicalpresent time between the concepts of political rights and aims. Such confusion is functional to the pursuit of collective goals in decline of individual rights. From the constitutional difference between the political rights and aims which is based in turn on the basic distinction between principle arguments and political arguments, the article defends the model of constitutional and democratic State of Law established in the 1991 Colombian Constitution, and rejects the present political tendencies that intent to manipulate individual rights to reach collective aims

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
