    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Effects of Biochar Amendment on Soil Problems and Improving Rice Production under Salinity Conditions

    Soil with poor physio-chemical and biological properties prevent plant growth. These poor characteristics may be due to soil creation processes, but also include largely inappropriate agricultural practices and/or anthropogenic pollution. During the last 4 decades, the world has lost one-third of its cropland due to pollution and erosion. Therefore, a series of operations is required to improve and recover the soil. Biochar is a new multifunctional carbon material extensively used as a modifier to improve soil quality and crop production. Previous studies have discussed the properties of biochar with varying soil pollutants and their effects on soil productivity and carbon sequestration. Comparatively, little attention has been paid to the effects of biochar application on rice growth in the problem of soils, especially in the saline-sodic soils. A comprehensive review of the literature with a high focusing on the effects of biochar application on problem soils and rice-growing under salinity conditions is needed. The present review gives an overview of the soil's problem, biochar amendment effects on physicochemical properties of soil, and how the biochar amendment could interact in soil microbes and root with remediation under salinity conditions for improving rice productivity. The findings of this review showed that biochar application can improve soil quality, reduce soil's problem and increase rice production under salinity conditions. It is anticipated that further researches on the biochar amendment will increase our understanding of the interactions of biochar with soil components, accelerate our attempts on soil remediation, and improve rice production under salinity conditions

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. These seemingly inefficient sources are the most important urban pollutant in different amounts and in liquid and solid form and cause harm. and the citizens\u27 interest, but in the case of optimal management and use of these valuable resources as raw materials in addition to protecting the environment, reducing the level of pollution, reducing the amount of diseases and deaths, it can be considered the best driver of production activities, recycling management Household solid waste in Kabul city is handled according to municipal standards and regulations (collection, transfer, burial and reuse), which is the main goal of this research to investigate the effects of household solid waste management and recycling in Kabul city. Since the nature of this research is descriptive-applicative, in order to collect information from two sources, the library and a questionnaire with a 7-point Likert scale from 384 citizens of the 15th district of Kabul city were randomly sampled and analyzed using spss software. First, the confidence level of the questionnaire of both variables was determined by Cronbach\u27s alpha method with the output coefficient (waste management 0.86 and recycling rate 0.82) and then its correlation intensity was determined by the Pearson method and also to predict the dependent variable from the linear regression function of the information received and investigated. And the dispute has been placed. Pearson\u27s correlation analysis with 95% confidence level of the number placement (p=0.004, N=384, R=0.86) with a coefficient of determination of 0.73 and a statistical value (t) of 4.76, which is greater than the critical value of table t 2.3, shows the relationship There is a strong positive among the variables and it states that the increase in the amount of recycling and the decrease in the consumption of family solid waste depends on the improvement of waste management, in the same way, the beta coefficient of 0.59 and t=7.31>1.96 and sig<0.05 of linear regression were obtained. It shows that improving family solid waste management will reduce the amount of waste consumption and recycling by 59%, also the extracted information shows that about 97% of household waste is bought and collected by informal garbage collectors

    Evaluation of the Main Risk Factors Impact on Mortality Rate of Turkish Lambs in the Kunduz Province of Afghanistan

    Aims: The objective of this study was to find out the lamb\u27s mortality rate of associated risk factors in Kunduz province that identify mortality problems, survival lambs, and risk factors in Turkish lambs. Design of Study: Using survey methods sampling by distributing questionnaires to sheep farmers. Place and Duration of Study: A total of 12 villages in two main districts (Imam Sahib and Ali Abad) of Kunduz province were observed from March to December 2020. Methodology: All the 72 sheep farmers were selected that they had 500 -1000 Turkish sheep on average (lambs were 56% males and 44% females), and main risk associated factors impact the mortality rate of lambs based on means performed by One sample and Paired T-Test were determined. Results: The results of the study indicate that the mortality rate of the lambs was observed at 21.696% (in Kunduz province), while the mortality rate of lambs was no significant difference in the mortality percentage of two districts with P-Value = 0.462, as in Imam Sahib district, the mortality rate of lambs was 20.995%, and Aliabad reported 22.34%, individually. The analyses of variance showed that the main risk factors impact in the district of Imam Sahib was observed highly significant differences in overall variables except for dystocia in comparison to the Aliabad district. The impact of risk factors on mortality rate of lambs in Kunduz province were recorded greater by 3.8261% abortion > 3.687% nutrition > 2.603% illness > climate change 2.341% > 1.338% accident > 1.115% housing > 0.969% care of pregnant > 0.819% management > 0.800% milk > 0.697% dystocia, respectively. Conclusion: The mortality rates of lambs were found very high with abortion, nutrition, illness, and climate change. Hence, due to the impact level of main risk factors on mortality rate, efforts should be made to increase lambing supervision, improve management of newborn lambs, and prevent diseases by focusing on the good feeding of animals

    Multiple Beneficial Effects of Using Biochar (as a Great Organic Material) on Tolerance and Productivity of Rice under Abiotic Stress

    Rice as a sensitive crop that usually affected by many harmful environmental stresses. Numerous policies are followed to increase plant growth-tolerance under abiotic-stresses in various plant species. The attempts to improve crop tolerance against abiotic stresses via common breeding method are needed to follow a long-term, and may also be non-affordable, these are due to the existing genetic variability of the plant. Current review analysis existing knowledge gaps, challenges, and opportunities in the biochar application as a beneficial and pyrogenic-C, material. Consequently, a review of the literature with a high focusing on the multiple beneficial effects of using biochar on tolerance and productivity of rice in abiotic stresses is needed. This review provides a summary of those efforts that would be beneficial in reducing inconvenienced abiotic-stresses, and also how using biochar could increase rice tolerance and production through the supporting of plant growth regulator's roles. Accordantly, present review findings showed that biochar is a great amendment and consisting of principally organic rich-C matter, which has multiple benefits on improving soil physicochemical and biological properties as well as increasing rice tolerance and its productivity through enhancing plant hormones roles under abiotic stressed conditions (heat/cold temperature, drought, salinity, heavy metal, and climate change stresses). Nevertheless, it is anticipated that further researches on the benefits of biochar will increase the comprehension of interactions between biochar and plant growth hormones, to accelerate our attempts for improving rice tolerance and productivity, under abiotic-stress conditions

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
