Lateral line with 43 scales extending from shoulder girdle in a horizontal line, but dropping one scale row at scale 13, then continuing horizontally to end of caudal peduncle. Scales above lateral line 3.5 and below 6.5 at level of analfin origin. Postorbital scales 4+3 (2) or 4+4 (1). Circumpeduncular scales 22. Prepelvic scales 10. A single scale on ventral aspect of anguloarticular. Colouration. In alcohol, dorsal and lateral sides of head dark grey, with lighter, beige area on cheek; ventral area of head lighter grey with some beige marbling on opercular area (Fig. 1). Isthmus darker grey anteriorly, light beige posteriorly close to gill membrane posterior margin. Dark grey colour of head extending onto dorsal half of anterior body, becoming lighter posteriorly; dorsal half of body otherwise with indistinct 7–8 large darker blotches, separated by lighter areas, especially in posterior part near caudal peduncle (first below dorsal-fin rays 4–5, followed by blotches below rays 8–10, 14–16, 19–21, 25–27, 29–30, 32–33). Lateral and ventral sides of body uniformly light beige. Dorsal fin with lighter grey fin rays and darker grey fin membrane, its posterior end with a large black ocellus (between fin rays 30–33(1), 32–34(1), 29–31(1)), sometimes with one or two additional smaller, less conspicuous ocelli in front of it. Caudal fin grey with series of vertical irregular light beige lines giving the caudal fin a chequered or marbled appearance. Anal fin grey, posteriorly sometimes with oblique light beige lines. Pectoral fin with dark grey blotch at base followed by 7–8 light beige bands alternating with 6–7 concentric grey bands. Pelvic fins light grey with light beige distal margin. In life, colour pattern much more contrasted (Figs. 2, 3). Head dark brown, on dorsal and dorsolateral sides with numerous black spots; lighter brown to beige with bronze sheen on sides; darker grey, showing some lighter whitish line marbling on ventral surface. Darker blotches along dorsum conspicuous, forming a chevron-like pattern with darker oblique lines on lateral and ventral sides of body. Dorsal fin with series of 10–12 black small spots more or less regularly spaced along fin base, usually situated at base of fin rays. Dorsal-fin membrane with less conspicuous marbling and darker spots and lines especially on fin rays. Basal two-thirds of fin membrane with hazy whitish-blue iridescence followed distally by translucent band and submarginally with a narrow light-brown band and whitish blue margin. Posterior dorsal-fin ocellus black, conspicuous; additional ocelli less conspicuous. Caudal fin brown with light-beige marbling lines, forming a caudal-fin ocellus in one of the paratypes (90.3 mm SL). Anal fin light beige, slightly translucent, with a few marbled white lines in posterior part. Pectoral fin translucent with grey basal blotch and alternating concentric brown and beige bands. Pelvic fins light beige. Juveniles of ca. 30–34 mm SL with overall brownish colour and black spots on head and body (Fig. 2b). Some light marbling lines on gular area. Dorsal, caudal, and anal fins translucent with slight whitish iridescence and numerous, conspicuous, large, black spots and blotches on dorsal and caudal fin, fewer on anal fin. Pectoral fin with basal blotch and three lighter, beige bands alternating with two dark brown bands. Small juveniles (Fig. 2c), 10–15 mm SL (just released from mouthbrooding parent upon capture) with light brown dorsum, bright yellowish midlateral band, darker brown ventral third of head and body, and translucent fins. Geographical distribution. The species is so far only known from its type locality (Figs. 4, 5). Etymology. The species name rara honours the Indian ichthyologist Rajeev Raghavan for his contributions to the elucidation of taxonomically difficult Indian freshwater fishes and their conservation; it is formed from the first two letters of his first name and surname. A noun in apposition. Remarks. The type specimens were caught only at night after several juveniles, with their unique colour pattern, had been collected during daytime. One mouthbrooding male, which could not be collected, released young from its mouth, one of which is illustrated in Figure 2c. The stream from which Channa rara was collected during the dry season consisted of meandering streamlets separating and reconnecting along the course with intermittent island-like areas (Fig. 4). The ground was rocky, sometimes with gravel-covered or sandy sections. Water was clear and the water level ranged from 10 cm to 0.5 m. All type specimens were collected along the banks, where they hid among roots and terrestrial vegetation that hung into the water. Co-occurring fish species included: Devario malabaricus, Schismatogobius deraniyagalai, Ompok sp., Paracanthocobitis mooreh, Pethia lutea, Rasbora dandia, Etroplus suratensis, Dawkinsia cf. filamentosa, Aplocheilus lineatus, Salmostoma boopis, and Schistura sp. Genetic analysis. Channa rara differs from topotypic Channa gachua by an uncorrected p genetic distance of 9.7%, and by 8.6% from topotypic Ophicephalus marginatus in COI partial gene sequence.Published as part of Britz, Ralf, Dahanukar, Neelesh, Anoop, V. From the correspondence of M. P. Drahomanov: two unknown letters to M. V. Vodovozov of 1894
This publication introduces into scientific discourse little-known letters of prominent Ukrainian scholar, politician and publicist M. P. Drahomanov (1841-1895), discovered in the fond of V. I. Vernadsky in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Two letters written in the latest period of the life of M. P. Drahomanov, which are addressed to young economist and publicist Mykola Vasyliovych Vodovozov (1870-1896), expand the source base not only for M. P. Drahomanov’s biographers. They show his ties with Russian liberals, who later formed the core of the party of constitutional democrats. A preface to the publication contains a biography of M. V. Vodovozov, and the author makes a hypothesis on the history of an acquaintance of the correspondent and the addressee, which could be connected with M. V. Vodovozov’s brother, V. V. Vodovozov, and members of the “Shelter Fraternity”, and through them with M. P. Drahomanov. The analysis of the published letters proves that M. P. Drahomanov endeavored to widen through the “Shelter Fraternity” members his contacts with democratic circles in Russia, and also to find financial support for publishing letters of Bakunin and Struve

Lomonosov’s poetry, with a view towards his works on prosody. The publication’s author concludes that V. Brusov intended to write a research paper on M. Lomonosov’s life and creativity
Design and Analysis of V-Band Electroless Plated Trough Waveguide Antenna
Design feasibility and antenna element choices make linear antenna arrays a preferred choice for applications at frequencies above 1 GHz. However, restricted bandwidth and limited scanning capabilities reduce the usefulness of these arrays in certain applications. Travelling wave antennas can overcome these problems by varying the phase velocity inside the transmission line to provide a high bandwidth scanning capability. The main beam of such a travelling wave antenna is able scan from the nearendfire to the broadside region. However, the change in the angle of the main beam from endfire to broadside introduces a high impedance mismatch which causes attenuation and reflection losses in the antenna. This research explores impedance matching techniques which could enhance the performance of beam scanning systems by solving this problem. This work covers the design, fabrication, and testing of a V-band Trough waveguide antenna (TWA) which uses tuning elements inside the guide for each perturbation. Additionally, this research covers the design and fabrication of two types of waveguide transitions. One transition connects standard rectangular waveguide to a troughguide, and another transition converts circular waveguide to a troughguide. These transitions achieve the correct orientation of modes at the input of the trough waveguide for a proper operation of the antenna. The initial TWA design uses a rectangular base which is developed into a curved base for each channel in the final design. The curved base improves the fluid flow utilized in the fabrication process of TWA. The initial design used rectangular matching posts attain matching and reduce the reflections at the interface of each perturbation. The final designs used circular/hemispherical matching elements with dimensions based on the rectangular posts allowed smooth edges. The author analyzed tuning elements of various shapes to obtain impedance matching while ensuring the dimensions are viable on the 3D printer available. The next phase of the study investigated maximizing the efficiency and radiation characteristics of the antenna by maximizing the radiated power. Finally, the author attempts reduction in sidelobes of the antenna using amplitude tapering functions such as squared cosine and triangular window for the trough waveguide antenna. The resulting antenna achieves a narrow broadside beam which can be scanned for the entire V-band frequency
The long-wavelength view of GG Tau A: rocks in the ring world
We present the first detection of GG Tau A at centimetre wavelengths, made with the Arcminute Microkelvin Imager Large Array at a frequency of 16 GHz (λ = 1.8 cm). The source is detected at >6 σrms with an integrated flux density of S16GHz = 249 ± 45 µJy. We use these new centimetre-wave data, in conjunction with additional measurements compiled from the literature, to investigate the long-wavelength tail of the dust emission from this unusual protoplanetary system. We use an MCMC-based method to determine maximum likelihood parameters for a simple parametric spectral model and consider the opacity and mass of the dust contributing to the microwave emission. We derive a dust mass of Md ~ 0.1 Msun, constrain the dimensions of the emitting region and find that the opacity index at λ > 7 mm is less than unity, implying a contribution to the dust population from grains exceeding ~4 cm in size. We suggest that this indicates coagulation within the GG Tau A system has proceeded to the point where dust grains have grown to the size of small rocks with dimensions of a few centimetres. Considering the relatively young age of the GG Tau association in combination with the low derived disc mass, we suggest that this system may provide a useful test case for rapid core accretion planet formation models
Caught in the crossfire of History: Social Reality of Postcolonial India in Anita Desai's Clear Light of Day
The History of India does not represent a monolithic and linear narrative; it rather offers conflicting and contesting perspectives. It is widely known that the history of india is recurrently interrupted by traders and invanders like the Mughals, the Venetiant, the portuguese, the Dutch, the English, and so forth. So the important events which constitute the national history do not remain as mere recorded data in the territory of the text; rather they find a significant space in the consciousness of every individual who, directly or indirectly, experiences the events. The partition of India, which divided the nation into two different countries, India and Muslim India(Islamic Republic of Pakistan), is not only a significant event in history but also a process which had long term effects on the psyche of people. In Anita Desai's Clear Light of Day, the trauma of partition is still fresh and the characters contemplate glimpses of the catastrophe when they reminisce about the past
Jezik in slog v delih Alme M. Karlin
Alma Maksimiliana Karlin (1889–1950) was born in Celje 130 years ago. Since the mid 1920s, she was considered an important world traveler and by the end of World War II Alma Karlin became a very popular and notable German writing author. The volume provides research findings on the linguistic and stylistic aspects as well as some others specific features of Karlin’s literary heritage. The papers are classified according to theoretical, methodological and empirical background and devided into three sections. The contributions in the first part discuss the possibilities of different ap-proaches to studing literary and aesthetic characteristics in Karlin’s select-ed works. Dejan Kos (Maribor) illustrates how Alma M. Karlin’s texts are characterized by an empathetic tendency to transcend the boundaries of her own world through aesthetics and spirituality. The discussion by Sylvia Brä-sel (Erfurt) shows that Karlin does not merely convey knowledge about the world and reflects on entertaining, foreign, and exotic, but also systematically re-presents herself. Alenka Jensterle-Doležal (Prague) describes the ways in which women’s roles and identities are constructed in the novel Svetlikanje v mraku. The analysis of style and language reveals that the author critically asseses woman’s life in a patriarchal society, while advocating racist judgments and prejudices of the time. The article by Melania Larisa Fabčič (Maribor) focuses on Karlin’s autobiography and her style, which is primarily constructed through reflection of emotions, recognized by the reader even when the text does not explicitly demonstrate them. The texts in the second part focus on different approaches of Alma M. Karlin’s textual style. Vida Jesenšek (Maribor) transparently presents the complexity of the author’s style. By implying linguistic, pragmatic and cognitive aspects, the research identifies the connections and mutual correlations between general principles of text’s structure, specific stylistic »meanings« and substantive textual aspects. Inge Pohl (Schwieberdingen) presents the first comprehensive linguistic analysis of the novel Windlichter des Todes, focusing on the archi-tectonic, structure and composition of literary characters and highlightening the function of the narrative perspective and the narrative structure. One of the most outstanding feautres of Alma M. Karlin’s literary texts is conveing emotions. In her research, Hana Bergerová (Ústí nad Labem) demonstrates that Karlin’s describes emotions in different, explicit and implicit, ways. The papers in the third part examine the creative use of language in Alma M. Karlin’s selected works. The reader notices linguistic creativity when rec-ognizing those linguistic meanings or devices in a text which seem unusual, unexpected, or deviating from expected. Urška Valenčič Arh (Ljubljana) studies the use of phraseological expressions in Der blaue Mond’s and compares the original to the Slovene translation. Alja Lipavic Oštir (Maribor) resarches travel texts with a particular emphasis on geographical names. Simona Štavbar (Ma-ribor) proceeds from the assumption that Karlin’s geobiographical texts contain evaluating statements which reinforce social prejudices. It is not surprising, therefore, that there are numerous euphemisms and dysphisms which Karlin uses to »indirectly« denote things, people, and events, concealing or empha-sizing certain judgments. Karlin’s creativity is also reflected in the effective use of word-formations. Inge Pohl (Schwieberdingen) studies neologisms in the novel Windlichter des Todes and describes the word-forming patterns used by Karlin to attract readers’ attention but which also demonstrate her exceptional knowledge of German. The volume offers a scholarly insight into a number of previously unexplored topics related to language and style of Alma M. Karlin’s literary works and outlines possibilities for further researches. Dejan Kos (Maribor) ponazarja, kako besedila Alme M. Karlin zaznamuje empatična težnja po preseganju meja lastnega sveta s pomočjo estetike in duhovnosti. Alenka Jensterle-Doležal (Praga) predstavlja roman Svetlikanje v mraku in prikaže načine, kako so v romanu oblikovane ženske vloge in identitete. Vida Jesenšek (Maribor) pregledno predstavi kompleksnost in raznolikost besedilnega sloga. Če ga analiziramo z jezikoslovnih, pragmatičnih in spoznavnih vidikov in ga razume-vamo v relacionalnem smislu, lahko razumemo povezave in soodvisnosti med splošnimi načeli besedilnega oblikovanja, posebnimi slogovnimi »sredstvi« in vsebinskimi besedilnimi značilnostmi. Inge Pohl (Schwieberdingen) podaja prvi celoviti jezikoslovni opis dela Windlichter des Todes. Izpostavi funkcij-skost pripovedne perspektive in pripovednostrukturno realizacijo tematike. Urška Valenčič Arh (Ljubljana) proučuje rabo frazeoloških izrazov v delu Der blaue Mond in jo primerja s slovenskim prevodom. Zanima jo sporočanjska in umetniška ustreznost prevoda posameznih leksikalno-skladenjskih enot. Inge Pohl (Schwieberdingen) proučuje ustvarjalno rabo priložnostnih tvorjenk (okazionalizme) v romanu Windlichter des Todes. Odpira nova pomembna raziskovalna vprašanja o jeziku in slogu Alme M. Karlin in spodbuja nadaljnji znanstveni razmislek
