Variation in the carbon and nitrogen isotopic signatures of pig remains from prehistoric sites in the Near East and Central Europe
The first results of carbon and nitrogen (δ13C, δ15N) stable isotope analyses of domestic pig (Sus domesticus Erxl., 1777) remains from three prehistoric sites are presented. Of these, comparison of the datasets from Tell Aqab in Syria and Çamlıbel Tarlası in Turkey suggests different dietary patterns, and possibly different pig husbandry practices, at these sites. The study highlights the need for supporting evidence from archaeobotanical and palaeoenvironmental investigations in the interpretation of stable isotope data
Readiness of Polish Nurses for Prescribing and the Level of Professional Burnout
Those in the medical profession, due to close contact and the emotional commitment of caring for patients, are particularly vulnerable to the occurrence of a phenomenon known as occupational ‘burnout’. The presented work deals with the problem of burnout and its relationship with new tasks undertaken by nurses. The aim of the study was an analysis of the relationship between the level of professional burnout of the nurses examined and their readiness to take on new duties related to writing prescriptions. The study was conducted among primary health care (PHC) and outpatient specialist care (OSC) nurses. The author’s questionnaire and the standardized Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ) were used. The highest level of occupational burnout was related to psychophysical exhaustion (16.00 ± 6.21). Higher results of occupational burnout among the nurses surveyed were matched by the lower readiness of the nurses to administer medicines and write prescriptions

The 'Clisurean' finds from Climente II cave, Iron Gates, Romania
Climente II cave, Iron Gates, Romania was excavated in 1968–9. Human remains were recovered from contexts identified as ‘Clisurean’ (Final Epigravettian), along with ca 6000 chipped stone artifacts, bone tools including awls, arrowheads and a fragment of a harpoon, and shell and animal tooth ornaments. This article presents a re-evaluation of the archaeological finds from Climente II. Osteological analysis of the human remains confirms at least three individuals: a robust, young adult male aged between 18 and 28 years, a second (older) adult, and a neonate. Single-entity 14C dating of human bone and humanly modified animal bones suggests the Clisurean occupation occurred during the Bølling–Allerød warm period. Carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) stable isotope analyses highlight the importance of fish in human diet at Climente II. Comparison of the Climente II archaeological inventory with that from later, fisher-hunter-gatherer settlements in the Iron Gates indicates continuity of mortuary ritual, lithic tradition and subsistence practices from the Lateglacial into the Early Holocene
Sociodemographic and psychosocial conditions of nurses’ readiness to ordain medications and to write prescriptions
Wstęp: Prezentowana praca podejmuje temat gotowości pielęgniarek do uczenia się i rozwoju w kontekście nowych uprawnień pielęgniarskich dotyczących ordynowania leków i wypisywania recept. Cel pracy: Analiza zróżnicowania gotowości pielęgniarek do ordynowania leków i wypisywania recept w zależności od wybranych czynników socjodemograficznych i psychospołecznych. Materiał i metody: Badania przeprowadzono wśród 414 pielęgniarek POZ i 342 pielęgniarek AOS województwa podkarpackiego. Wykorzystano: Kwestionariusz autorstwa własnego, GPUR, LBQ oraz SWLS.Wyniki: Badania własne wykazały, że spośród czynników socjodemograficznych to wiek, poziom wykształcenia i posiadanie dodatkowych uprawnień istotnie wpływały na gotowość pielęgniarek do ordynowania leków. Gotowości do uczenia się i rozwoju kształtowała się na poziomie przeciętnym i dotyczyła najczęściej doskonalenia zawodowego w miejscu pracy. Wśród badanych pielęgniarek przeważały osoby o stwierdzonym przeciętnym i niskim poziomie satysfakcji z życia i stanowiły one łącznie blisko 75% badanej grupy. Wyższy poziom wypalenia zawodowego grupy odpowiadał mniejszej gotowość do ordynowania tych leków. Wnioski: Wśród czynników wpływających na dysponowanie gotowością do ordynowania leków istotnymi okazały się posiadanie kursu w dziedzinie pielęgniarstwa, satysfakcja z życia oraz wybrane skale gotowości do uczenia się i rozwoju.Introduction: The presented thesis addresses the topic of nurse readiness for learning and development in the context of new nursing mandates for prescribing. The aim of study: The purpose of the study was to analyze the diversity of nurses' readiness to administer medication and to write prescriptions depending on selected sociodemographic and psychosocial factors. Material and methods: The study was conducted among 414 POZ nurses and 342 AOS nurses in the Podkarpackie voivodship. Were used:GPUR, LBQ, SWLS and Self-Assessment Questionnaire. Results: Our own research has shown that among the sociodemographic factors, age, educational attainment and additional entitlement have significantly influenced nurses' readiness to administer medication. The willingness of nurses to learn and develop was related to the professional readiness of the respondents. Among the surveyed POZ and AOS nurses prevalence of persons with average and low level of life satisfaction prevailed, which together accounted for almost 75% of the examined group. Higher levels of occupational burns related to lack of efficacy were associated with less willingness to administer drugs. Conclusions: Among the factors influencing the readiness to administer drugs, the possession of a course in nursing, life satisfaction and selected scales of readiness for learning and development have been found as essential
Strategie rozwoju i wyzwania pielęgniarstwa w Polsce i na świecie
Constantly changing environment and constantly growing needs and requirements of patients, make nursing define its competences, look for place in the health care system, plan tasks and create nursing development strategies. It tries to meet the requirements, becoming at the same time a key link in the health care system and a fully autonomous profession but with an unchangeable mission which is to save human life and care for the patient. Permanent changes in health care, in society as well as in the structures in medical professions cause that nursing constantly strives for its development and tries to engage substantive dialogue with those responsible for health policy, in order to outline the framework of the profession in the actual reality and its future. A review of selected national strategies for nursing development, the circumstances in which they developed and key assumptions allow to conclude about their positive impact on public health in a given country and on the quality of patient care. What connects individual strategies is the priority treatment of multisectoral cooperation in health care, aspects related to the promotion of the profession, education of nurses and the definition of new roles and new competences in the context of the requirements and needs of a given country. An example may be prescribing, providing nursing advice or introducing the role of an advanced practice nurse. A great achievement for nursing in Poland is the initiative of creation Strategy of Development for nursing. It is a planning document that defines the directions of activities ensuring high quality, safety and access to nursing care of patients.Stale zmieniające się otoczenie oraz ciągle rosnące potrzeby i wymagania pacjentów sprawiają, że pielęgniarstwo definiuje swoje kompetencje, szuka swojego miejsca w systemie ochrony zdrowia z niezmienną misją, jaką jest ratowanie ludzkiego życia oraz opieka nad pacjentem. Dokonujące się stale zmiany w ochronie zdrowia, w społeczeństwie, a także w strukturach zawodów medycznych powodują, że pielęgniarstwo nieustannie dąży do swego rozwoju i stara się podejmować dialog merytoryczny z osobami odpowiedzialnymi za politykę zdrowotną celem nakreślenia ram funkcjonowania zawodu w aktualnej rzeczywistości oraz jego przyszłości. Przegląd strategii rozwoju pielęgniarstwa wielu krajów pozwala wnioskować o ich pozytywnym oddziaływaniu na zdrowie publiczne w danym kraju oraz na wzrost jakości opieki nad pacjentem. Ogromnym osiągnięciem dla pielęgniarstwa w Polsce jest inicjatywa stworzenia Strategii rozwoju dla pielęgniarstwa. Jest to pierwszy dokument o charakterze planistycznym, który określa kierunki działań zapewniające wysoką jakość, bezpieczeństwo i dostęp pacjentów do profesjonalnej opieki pielęgniarskiej
EFFECTIVENESS OF CONDUCTED PREVENTIVE AND PROACTIVE MEASURES INCREASING THE SAFETY OF THE COMPANY
The final part of the developed article presents the results of the conducted research and proposals for the practical use of the developed econometric cost model as a tool for cost analysis. Furthermore, the application of this econometric model enabled the author to analyze the factors influencing the level of costs incurred for preventive measures and for ensuring the safety of the storage system in the company X through the application of preventive and proactive measures adequate to the scale of the problem. As a consequence, such a procedure made it possible to obtain information fully useful in the daily operations of the company X. In conclusion, reference is made to the extent to which the adopted objective has been met and final conclusions are provided
Social linkages in Lodz Metropolitan Area
Social Linkages in Lodz Metropolitan Area. In this paper, the results of the research on territorial cohesion of Lodz Metropolitan Area, perceived in the context of social linkages, are presented. The author took under consideration commuting to places of work and education, as well as customer flows to the chosen service facilities (the example of cultural institutions located in Lodz). The analysis included in the article is based on varied data, characterized in its first part. In the next three parts, the author successively analyzes types of social linkages. The final step of the paper is the synthesis, in which the strength and the spatial extent of social linkages in Lodz Metropolitan Area are assessed
