An Ontology Based Method to Solve Query Identifier Heterogeneity in Post-Genomic Clinical Trials

    No full text
The increasing amount of information available for biomedical research has led to issues related to knowledge discovery in large collections of data. Moreover, Information Retrieval techniques must consider heterogeneities present in databases, initially belonging to different domains—e.g. clinical and genetic data. One of the goals, among others, of the ACGT European is to provide seamless and homogeneous access to integrated databases. In this work, we describe an approach to overcome heterogeneities in identifiers inside queries. We present an ontology classifying the most common identifier semantic heterogeneities, and a service that makes use of it to cope with the problem using the described approach. Finally, we illustrate the solution by analysing a set of real queries

Neogene history of the Carapita Formation, Eastern Venezuela basin

The planktonic and benthic foraminifera from the lower to middle Miocene shales of the Carapita Formation of Eastern Venezuela in three exploration wells and one outcrop section are analyzed with the objectives of establishing a precise biostratigraphy of the formation and its bathymetric history. Comparison with the well-preserved microfaunas of the correlative Cipero Formation of Trinidad made possible the achievement of these objectives. The formation, up to 4500 to 6000 m thick in outcrops, extends from northeastern Anzoátegui and North of Monagas States to the Gulf of Paria and is both an important oil reservoir towards the east and the main seal rock for the Oligocene reservoir in the north of Monagas State. In the area studied the Carapita Formation spans lower to lower middle Miocene Zones N6/M3 to N9/M6; its upper part is unconstrained as only rare long ranging early Miocene to early Pliocene planktonic foraminifera occur above the Orbulina datum. Unexpectedly, we found that the four lower to middle Miocene sections are highly discontinuous, with hiastuses as long as 4 Myr. Based on the abundance patterns of sixty-nine species of benthic foraminifera and analysis of morphotype abundance following the methodology of Corliss and Chen (1988) and Corliss and Fois (1993), we show that the Carapita Formation was deposited at outer neritic to middle bathyal depths (≥ 200-1000 m), whereas the Cipero Formation was deposited at middle to lower bathyal depths (≥600-2000 m). Importantly, the bathymetric changes are associated with unconformities in all sections, strongly suggesting that both (shallowing and associated unconformities) were tectonically induced.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Dennis Alberto Sanchez Zambran

The Philosophy of Brutality: A Preface in Three Parts Dr. Carlos Alberto Sanchez\u27s current research focuses on the philosophy of violence, particularly on the distinction between violence and brutality. To highlight this difference, violence and brutality are thought within the context of Mexican narco-culture, a socio-political and historico-cultural phenomenon that challenges the very conception of violence, personhood, and culture itself. His talk will deal with issues surrounding this current work. Professor Sanchez is currently the graduate advisor for the MA program in philosophy, Editor of the American Philosophical Association Newsletter on Hispanic/Latino Issues in Philosophy, Chair of Inter-American Relations for the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy, and author of three books, co-editor of two critical anthologies, and has penned a couple of dozen articles on phenomenology or Mexican philosophy.https://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/uss/1037/thumbnail.jp

In his writing, the Mexican author Alberto Ruy Sánchez explores various forms of erotic desire. His novels are primarily situated in the exotic environment of the Moroccan town of Mogador. As they clearly contain many motives pertinent to a romantic vision of the Orient, they may be considered – for better or worse – a continuation of the Orientalist literary tradition. What makes Sanchez' novels stand out, however, is the way in which the author's narration approximates a concrete expression of Islamic decorative art and architecture, making him an excellent "artisan of the word" and subsequently allowing particular elements of the Arabic literary tradition to resonate throughout his work.In his writing, the Mexican author Alberto Ruy Sánchez explores various forms of erotic desire.

The notion of perpetrator in criminal matters is not identical in all the structures of the crime, which is why definitions must be drawn up for common crimes (called domain crimes), violation of duty, commission and omission. In this essay I will deal with the notions of author (direct and mediate) and co-author in crimes of breach of duty and their characteristics. In order to make these clarifications, it is necessary to point out the differences between the concepts of domain crime or common crime and those of infraction of duty or special ones
