Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the main cause of death in almost all of the world, caused by the presence of plaque that accumulates in the coronary arteries that supply oxygen to the heart muscle, CHD is still an important health problem and has a socio-economic impact, CHD causes a decrease in physical and psychological functions that have an impact on quality of life. Depression is associated with a worsened quality of life (physical, mental, and social), medical morbidity, and mortality. Strong correlations have been observed between depressive symptoms and health status, symptoms, physical limitations, quality of life, and overall health among patients with coronary heart disease. This study aimed to determine the correlation analysis of demographic characteristics and depressive syndrome on the quality of life of patients with coronary heart disease. Methods: This study used a correlative analytic study including nominal-nominal and numerical-nominal correlative analytics with a cross-sectional study approach. The technique of sampling used in this study was the non-probability sampling of consecutive sampling type where in this study 2 correlation variables will be assessed. This study used 90 CHD patients and was conducted at the Integrated Heart Center of Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. Results: The data showed that from 90 participating CHD patients there correlates with depression syndromes as measured using the BDI II measuring instrument and the quality of life measured using the SF-36 measuring instrument with r value = -0.721 and p value = 0.01, median (minimum-maximum) of the variable BDI II is 16 (10-28). There is a correlation between gender and SF-36 with a value of r = 0.652, F count of 65.92, and F table of 3.95 where F count > F table, the most variable gender is male, it has 65 subjects (72, 2%). There has a correlation between marriage with SF-36 with a value of r = 0.764, the calculated F value is 123 and the F table is 3.95 where F count > F table, the most marital status variable is married, it has 88 subjects (97.8%). There has a correlation between income and SF-36 with a value of r = 0.224, and a p value = 0.021, the median (minimum-maximum) of the income variable is 2 (0-8). Conclusion: There correlates between syndromes of depression, gender, marriage, and income with quality of life in CHD patients.121 HalamanTesis Magiste

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Background: Burnout is an individual's response to prolonged stress they encounter, manifested as emotional exhaustion, loss of motivation, and decreased commitment. Burnout commonly occurs among employees working in high stress environments. Evidence suggests that Burnout Syndrome is prevalent among healthcare workers or those in health services. Studies conducted on hospital employees discussing stress and burnout in doctors, nurses, and other medical professions have found that nurses have the highest prevalence of work related exhaustion. Method: This research is a multivariate linear regression analytical study with a predictive conceptual framework using a cross sectional study approach. The sampling technique employed was non probability sampling of the consecutive sampling type. This study analyzed the relationship between several independent variables (age, gender, length of education, type of job, hours worked, marital status, income, and comorbid diseases) and the dependent variable using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), with its Indonesian version being the Maslach Trisni Burnout Inventory (M TBI). The study sample consisted of 115 nurses. This research was conducted at Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital in Medan. Results: The demographic characteristics of nurses at Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital in Medan revealed an average age of 37 years. The majority of the nurses were female, accounting for 96 individuals (83.47%), and most were married, with 109 individuals (94.78%). The most common length of education was 18 years. The average income was 4 million IDR, and the most frequent working hours were ≥44 hours per week, affecting 73 nurses (63.48%). The most common type of job was inpatient care, involving 73 subjects (63.48%). The most prevalent comorbid disease variable was having no comorbid diseases, accounting for 95 individuals (82.61%), and the Maslach Trisni Burnout Inventory (M TBI) score had a standard deviation of 51.66±15.835. Variables related to burnout syndrome, with significant p values, were the length of education = 0.025, working hours = 0.001, and type of job = <0.001. prevalence of burnout was moderate burnout, 75 subjects (62.21%). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the length of education, working hours, and type of job with burnout syndrome among nurses at Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital in Medan.153 PagesTesis Magiste

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
