Non-MARC-ish BIBFRAME
How do we create and format bibliographic descriptions as linked data without reproducing not just the good, but also the bad and the ugly from MARC records? Or is dressing up MARC in a new coat a good enough transformation? Regardless if your catalogue is published as linked data or stored as traditional/disconnected data, it is most likely full of ”MARC data”, i.e. bibliographic descriptions created in accordance with MARC formatting. The Swedish National Bibliography as well as the Swedish Union Catalogue has been catalogued and published as linked data built upon BIBFRAME since 2018. It has been developed with the view that the fundamental and radical shift that is the transition to BIBFRAME needs to be more than a conversion from records to graphs, from codes to URIs. Nevertheless, six years after going into production, the problematic aspects of the MARC legacy are still extensive in the catalogue and cataloguing practice. This talk will look at practical steps taken at the National Library of Sweden on how to exploit the opportunities of linked data, beyond MARC. This includes defining entity identities and normalising properties. How can we move away from the bad and the ugly, to truly enable a new structure, while at the same time preserving the good that is decades of legacy data?

"Mechanisms of modal and amodal interpolation": Postcript
Presents some additional comments by the current author regarding his original article Mechanisms of modal and amodal interpolation (see record 2007-05396-010). This debate has evolved to the point where there is now some agreement that there are significant commonalities between modal and amodal representations and processes. However, disagreements remain about the interpretation of experimental results. Some of these disagreements, along with points of agreement, are discussed. There has been increasing research activity on the physiological side of this issue, and the next few years may provide much more definitive evidence about the relationship between modal and amodal representations
UKMARC AMC: Draft Rev 4.0: UK MARC format for archives and manuscripts control (UK MARC AMC)
This draft is the first attempt to establish a UK MARC specifically for Archives and Manuscripts Control since the British Library indicated that it would countenance such extensions to the national UK MARC format. In order to keep consistency with the general UK MARC format, standard UK MARC subject fields are not included in this document, since they should be taken from the latest version of the UK MARC manual. {A note of them should perhaps be included in UK MARC AMC.} {NB Text in braces is intended to be explanatory material for readers of this draft}. Certain other fields have not been included that might occasionally be used in the cataloguing of archival materials but would generally only be used for such materials in organizations which were combining archive
databases with library databases. This MARC version is intended for use with descriptions of archive or anuscript material that follow, or fit, the traditional style of cataloguing: we assume that these will normally relate
to paper or parchment originals. It is not intended for use with descriptions of other kinds of material. For these, fields may be drawn from the appropriate UK MARC document. MARC versions for use with archives in special formats should be developed, in order to complete the full range of facilities available to archivists and curators
