    According to the plan of study, internships are the last course for all undergraduate programmes in the Faculty of Business and Management. We are all required to complete an internship with the purpose of gaining in-depth practical knowledge of the business operation and working experiences. As I did my internship at GES Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd, I was assigned to the purchasing department in the manufacturing with a variety of needed skills and experiences that I could learn and gain from the purchasing, production, and finished goods. I believe this report will provide comprehensive insight and functioning information about this company. Along with the company background, vision, mission, and objectives, this department and company focused on detail. In this report, I also include the SWOT analysis of GES Manufacturing because the primary goal of an internship is to learn how to operate in a practical setting and apply the knowledge learned during the internship in a real working environment. I learned how to solve those issues thanks to the information. Finally, I'll wrap up my report with a few comments and recommendations. GES Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd is a big sector, therefore it has a lot of important data. I made every effort to go to the most significant departments that related in my field and learn everything there was to know about. I think this study will help the business continue to grow and produce more profitable products as well as from a corporate management perspective

    Middle Jurassic–Early Cretaceous foraminiferal biozonation of the Amran Group, eastern Sana’a Basin, Yemen

    Two sections of strata assigned to the Amran Group at Jabal Salab and Jabal Yam in the eastern Sana’a governorate were sampled and correlated. These sections are part of a carbonate platform that extends from the city of Marib in the east to Naqil Ibn Ghailan, 20 km east of the city of Sana’a to the west. Palaeontological analysis of samples recovered has resulted in identification of 123 foraminiferal species, which are used to subdivide the sequence of the Amran Group into five biostratigraphic zones, aged between Bathonian (Middle Jurassic) and Berriasian (Early Cretaceous). The proposed biozones are those of Riyadhella rotundata, Kurnubia jurassica, Ammomarginulina sinaica, Alveosepta jaccardi and Pseudocyclammina sulaiyana/Furitilla caspianseis. These biozones were constructed and correlated with the equivalent zones reported from several localities

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    This study addresses the emerging concept of Industry 5.0, which aims to tackle societal concerns associated with the ongoing digital industrial transformation. However, there is still a lack of consensus on the definition and scope of Industry 5.0, as well as limited understanding of its technological components, design principles, and intended values. To bridge these knowledge gaps, the study conducts a content-centric review of relevant literature and synthesizes evidence to develop an architectural design for Industry 5.0. The findings reveal that Industry 5.0 represents the future of industrial transformation, offering potential solutions to socio-economic and environmental issues that were inadequately addressed or exacerbated by Industry 4.0. The study provides managers, industrialists, and policymakers with a comprehensive overview of Industry 5.0, including its technological constituents, design principles, and smart components, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder involvement and integration for effective governance of digital industrial transformation within this framework

    Reliable indoor optical wireless communication in the presence of fixed and random blockers

    The advanced innovation of smartphones has led to the exponential growth of internet users which is expected to reach 71% of the global population by the end of 2027. This in turn has given rise to the demand for wireless data and internet devices that is capable of providing energy-efficient, reliable data transmission and high-speed wireless data services. Light-fidelity (LiFi), known as one of the optical wireless communication (OWC) technology is envisioned as a promising solution to accommodate these demands. However, the indoor LiFi channel is highly environment-dependent which can be influenced by several crucial factors (e.g., presence of people, furniture, random users' device orientation and the limited field of view (FOV) of optical receivers) which may contribute to the blockage of the line-of-sight (LOS) link. In this thesis, it is investigated whether deep learning (DL) techniques can effectively learn the distinct features of the indoor LiFi environment in order to provide superior performance compared to the conventional channel estimation techniques (e.g., minimum mean square error (MMSE) and least squares (LS)). This performance can be seen particularly when access to real-time channel state information (CSI) is restricted and is achieved with the cost of collecting large and meaningful data to train the DL neural networks and the training time which was conducted offline. Two DL-based schemes are designed for signal detection and resource allocation where it is shown that the proposed methods were able to offer close performance to the optimal conventional schemes and demonstrate substantial gain in terms of bit-error ratio (BER) and throughput especially in a more realistic or complex indoor environment. Performance analysis of LiFi networks under the influence of fixed and random blockers is essential and efficient solutions capable of diminishing the blockage effect is required. In this thesis, a CSI acquisition technique for a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided LiFi network is proposed to significantly reduce the dimension of the decision variables required for RIS beamforming. Furthermore, it is shown that several RIS attributes such as shape, size, height and distribution play important roles in increasing the network performance. Finally, the performance analysis for an RIS-aided realistic indoor LiFi network are presented. The proposed RIS configuration shows outstanding performances in reducing the network outage probability under the effect of blockages, random device orientation, limited receiver's FOV, furniture and user behavior. Establishing a LOS link that achieves uninterrupted wireless connectivity in a realistic indoor environment can be challenging. In this thesis, an analysis of link blockage is presented for an indoor LiFi system considering fixed and random blockers. In particular, novel analytical framework of the coverage probability for a single source and multi-source are derived. Using the proposed analytical framework, link blockages of the indoor LiFi network are carefully investigated and it is shown that the incorporation of multiple sources and RIS can significantly reduce the LOS coverage blockage probability in indoor LiFi systems

    Simulation of thermal plant optimization and hydraulic aspects of thermal distribution loops for large campuses

    Following an introduction, the author describes Texas A&M University and its utilities system. After that, the author presents how to construct simulation models for chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems. The simulation model was used in a $2.3 million Ross Street chilled water pipe replacement project at Texas A&M University. A second project conducted at the University of Texas at San Antonio was used as an example to demonstrate how to identify and design an optimal distribution system by using a simulation model. The author found that the minor losses of these closed loop thermal distribution systems are significantly higher than potable water distribution systems. In the second part of the report, the author presents the latest development of software called the Plant Optimization Program, which can simulate cogeneration plant operation, estimate its operation cost and provide optimized operation suggestions. The author also developed detailed simulation models for a gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator and identified significant potential savings. Finally, the author also used a steam turbine as an example to present a multi-regression method on constructing simulation models by using basic statistics and optimization algorithms. This report presents a survey of the author??s working experience at the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University during the period of January 2002 through March 2004. The purpose of the above work was to allow the author to become familiar with the practice of engineering. The result is that the author knows how to complete a project from start to finish and understands how both technical and nontechnical aspects of a project need to be considered in order to ensure a quality deliverable and bring a project to successful completion. This report concludes that the objectives of the internship were successfully accomplished and that the requirements for the degree of Degree of Engineering have been satisfied
