Keskustelussa rakennusten kestävyydestä on muuntojoustavuus yksi tärkeimmistä tekijöistä kestävyyden edistämiseksi.
Vuonna 2018 valmistunut Amos Rex -museo on uusin vaihe Lasipalatsin tilojen muuntumisen historiassa.

The Anthropocene, ”The age of Humans”, is not only an environmental crisis but also an ontological one, because it puts the (Western) humankind in need to radically redefine its self-understanding and cultural heritage. Museums have long been seen as custodians of cultural heritage. We ask how to enact museum pedagogies involving heritages that are more and more clearly understood as produced by colonial extraction and white Western privilege. This very inheritance has also created the societal and environmental crises of our era. The purpose of this collective assemblage is to examine the cultural inheritance of the Anthropocene, and to explore the potentials for anticolonial art pedagogy in museums. We are a group of art education students, researchers, and museum pedagogues. In our article, we describe a six-month learning and research project that took place in fall 2020 around the Egypt of Glory exhibition at the Amos Rex Art Museum. Our research coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected practices and created atmospheres of specific oddities, insecurities and sensitivities. We describe a process of critical inquiry, during which we moved from discursive critique towards a more-than-human approach: towards sensing and observing relations, feelings and atmospheres among the exhibition space, the exhibited objects, bodies, histories, and futures. Methodologically, our article presents the atmospheric approach as a method for posthumanist and critical museum research. This approach can both help researchers to become sensitized to the emotional event of the Anthropocene and to pay attention to more-than-human relationality. Pedagogically, we offer a closer analysis of selected pedagogical activities developed during the project, ones that reflect a new sense of responsibility. Pedagogisella tasolla erittelemme museopedagogisten toteutusten syntyprosesseja, joita leimasi tietoisuus uudenlaisesta vastuusta
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Museums as intersectional spaces for artivist solidarity
This chapter responds to the themes of pedagogical sensibilities and anticolonial museum work by exploring two separate, but intertwined art education projects (cases) carried out in collaboration between the Art Education Programme at Aalto University, the Finnish National Gallery's Ateneum Art Museum, the Amos Rex art museum, and individuals associated with local NGOs. The chapter concludes with an emphasis on solidarity; to sensibly and ethically combat systemic discrimination supported and maintained by museums and countless educators despite of their personal and collective aims and ideals. The chapter challenges the prevailing binary divisions within museum knowledges and their inscribed hegemonic, hierarchical structures between people, objects and knowledges. As a critical stance, the authors present the need for anticolonial and co-constructed knowledges where authority is shared, and where critical knowledge as a discourse strives to move past normative ways to perceive, experience, articulate and contextualise museum objects. The notions of sensible, anticolonial museum also brings forth non-verbal, embodied knowledge and sensuous epistemic orientation: artivist solidarity.Peer reviewe
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
A Fish, a Goddess, and a Friend: How Three Ancient Artefacts Created a Possibility for Anticolonial Understanding in the Amos Rex Art Museum
This thesis(?) focused on building new relations to objects stolen to Europe from the graves of ancient Egypt; namely a fish-shaped palette, a statue of the Goddess Sekhmet, and a coffin of Henu – the King's only friend. Written in collusion by two unruly nuisances disguised as a singular entity, this text is based on three workshops, which were held in collaboration with the staff behind Amos Rex art museum’s Egypt of Glory – The Last Great Dynasties exhibition (9.10.2020-21.3.2021). The workshops, conducted in January 2021, engaged the community of the museum staff in exploration and discussions about mu-seum exhibitions and collections, objects, sah (mummies), and colonial ourstories as well as personal and institutional accountability through art pedagogical methodology.
This text could be a map, a ghost story, a confession, a time traveller’s journal, or a sea creature's witness statement. It applies the imagery and thematic tools of being covered by forest, lost at sea, and haunted by the ghosts generated by colonial logic and fossil-fuelled modernity, to approach the multi-faceted themes of coloniality, decolonisation, and oppressive structures within the museum institutions and the study fields surrounding it. It lingers, leaks, and causes uncomfortable itching.
The presented work consists of three parts. The first part maps the backgrounds of the work, the writers, tributes, objects, methodologies, and the context in which the work is situated. It addresses the main themes of the work and the workshops: whiteness, accountability, colonialism, decolonisation, and anti-colonial action. The three objects in focus presented the three topics for the workshops: touch, grief, and accountability. The relations between the objects, these topics, the chosen methods of the workshops, and how they connect to possible anticolonial action in the museum are discussed further in the second part of the text.
The second part describes the workshops and presents the materials produced in the workshops, as well as their planned timetables, assignments, and final executions. The art educational methods used in the workshops included writing, drawing, working with clay, and facilitating conversations regarding the objects on display. The material was gathered through the writers’ notes taken during the workshops, notes by the workshop participants, and artistically produced materials.
The final part analyses the workshops, the work process as a whole, and how and whether the initial thesis questions were answered through the workshops, utilising the ideas of Post Qualitative Inquiry. Writing through and with the collected materials, the final part of the text collects and weaves the experiences, discussions, and other materials into an account that presents one possibility of reality created within the workshops. The writers found that the workshops did further the understanding and activated discussion on decoloniality and anticolonial action within the Amos Rex museum, but the nature of the text relies on understanding and experiences that exceed traditional academic analysis or conclusions.
