A research on novel Genesis by Ratih Kumala employed a literary psychological study focusing on literary work as a mental activity (conflict of characters) requiring a holistic analysis to interpret meaning, mandate, and message contained within it. Novel Genesis by Ratih Kumala featured several conflicts affecting its characters’ personality. The conflicts featured in this novel were very complex, either inner conflict or conflict with other characters as human mentality process eventually affecting attitude and conduct. The approach used in this study was descriptive qualitative one. The data of research constituted words, sentence in the form of expression, and dialog between characters indicating the mentality conflict occurring inside the characters on which this study focused. Meanwhile the data source of research was source document, such as books of literary theory, literary psychology and novel Genesis by Ratih Kumala. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling one. Technique of collecting data used in qualitative research was interactive and non-interactive in nature. This study employed theoretical, source or data, and methodological triangulations. Technique of analyzing data used in this research was an interactive analysis one encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The procedure of research included preparation, implementation and presentation of research result. The psychological aspect of character existing in novel Genesis by Ratih Kumala employed Sigmund Freud’s theory distinguishing personality into three types: ide, Ego, and Superego. Literary psychological research was based on these three psychological domains. In novel Genesis, the author had the reason why she featured a nun represented as capable of providing positive nuance to readers’ perception on a nun submitting her entire life to God and avoided from the author’s determination as if she wanted to confirm that every human being encountering problem in his/her life should submit to his/her fate, submit everything to God’s destiny and get closer to God. Pawestri disentangled her tension in her life by deciding to be a nun as the form of her submission to God because she could not retain burden of her past memories, the reason why she preferred living celibate

A novel possess a high level of complexity, including their portrayal of social dynamics. The complexity of novels is evident in their narrative structures, the characterization of characters with psychological depth and diverse backgrounds, the dynamics presented within the story, and the messages conveyed by the author. Therefore, this study investigates the social dynamics reflected in the novel *Gadis Kretek* by Ratih Kumala, focusing on social change, gender equality, and family conflicts within Indonesian society in the 1930s. The novel provides an in-depth depiction of the development of the kretek industry in Indonesia, a sector that flourished rapidly after Dutch colonization, as well as the struggle of women to find space in a male- dominated business world. The character Jeng Yah, who plays a pivotal role in kretek production, symbolizes the struggles of women confronting social and cultural limitations to prove their capabilities. Using a qualitative approach that emphasizes analysis of characters, plot, and setting, this study uncovers the tension between traditional values and modernity, as well as how changes in the kretek industry reflect significant shifts in social class. The research also explores the impact of social changes on human interactions, particularly in the context of family relationships and individual struggles to preserve their values and identities. Overall, this study provides an in-depth understanding of how the novel reflects the social, economic, and cultural transformations occurring in Indonesian society, as well as its relevance to contemporary social issues that remain significant today

Original Article Exploring the potent antimalarial properties of Drimys beccariana Gibbs through molecular docking analysis utilizing advanced structure-based drug design techniques Hermanto, Faizal; Ratih, Hestiary1; Alatas, Fikri1; Sutarna, Titta Hartyana1 Author Information Journal of Advanced Pharmaceutical Technology & Research 15(4):p 326-331, Oct–Dec 2024. | DOI: 10.4103/japtr.japtr_126_24 Open Metrics Abstract Drimys beccariana Gibbs, a plant species renowned for its pharmacological properties, has shown potential as an antimalarial agent. Understanding its mechanism of action against malaria parasites through interaction with key receptors and enzymes is crucial for drug development. This study seeks to elucidate the mechanism of Drimys beccariana Gibbs as an antimalarial agent by investigating its interactions with several target receptors and enzymes involved in the malaria parasite’s life cycle. Molecular docking, employing structure-based drug design principles, was utilized to simulate the binding interactions between compounds derived from Drimys beccariana Gibbs and specific target receptors/enzymes crucial for malaria parasite survival. The docking studies revealed promising interactions between the compounds derived from Drimys beccariana Gibbs and key receptors/enzymes associated with malaria, including Triose-phosphate isomerase, Plasmepsin II, lactate dehydrogenase, and enoyl-acyl-carrier protein. Compounds 5,3’-dihydroxy-7,4’-dimethoxyflavone and 5,7-dihydroxy-4’-methoxyflavone exhibited significant binding affinity and potential inhibitory effects across multiple targets, suggesting their candidacy for further investigation as antimalarial agents. 5,3’-dihydroxy-7,4’-dimethoxyflavone and 5,7-dihydroxy-4’-methoxyflavone have considerable potential inhibition of receptors/enzymes associated with malaria
