Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
FIFA World Cup as a catalyst for Qatar to achieve its goals on sustainability and sports diplomacy
No full textThe FIFA 2022 World Cup provided Qatar with the chance to advance its sports diplomacy while skillfully introducing and describing the nation. The FIFA World Cup was considered as a chance to advance intercultural understanding, foster conversation between locals and visitors from around the globe, advance knowledge of the local culture, and make themselves known to the outside world. Qatar has likewise prioritized sustainable development since 2008. In addition to constructing state-of-the-art stadiums, Qatar has prepared for the event as a catalyst for long-lasting sustainable development. In this study, 193 tweets with the hashtags “Qatar2022” and “SeeYouInQatar” and videos posted on the official Twitter account for the Qatar FIFA World Cup (Road to 2022 @roadto2022en) between 7 December 2020 and 13 April 2022 were subjected to semiotic analysis using five videos that received the most likes. In addition, content analysis using comments on these tweets was also used. In order to understand the issues in sports diplomacy, this study used a dual methodology to examine the relationship between the perception of sustainability in the visual and the perception of sustainability produced in the comments

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textThe sociology of sports in the Middle East has been neglected compared to other world regions. This volume aspires to encourage a greater focus on this topic. Here are assembled papers that discuss various aspects of this subject. As it happens all deal with football (soccer) largely in Egypt but including other Middle Eastern countries. Some are historically or politically oriented while others take a more sociological approach. Papers deal with the relation between organized sports and fans, with the special place of youngsters and women in sports, or with the role of sports in a more general understanding of culture and society as indicators of modernization and other facets of social change. Sportive competitions arouse keen passions around such issues as gender, class, and nationality, while they raise questions about leadership on and off the field, and about the economic impact of the games. Sport and political transition in Tunisia: Another terrain of competition between Islamists and seculars
No full textThis chapter reports on a research project that focused on how policy makers perceived and responded to the sporting needs of Muslim communities in Norway. A unique trait of Norwegian sport policy is that sport organizations are volunteer based. The amount of voluntary work conducted in Norwegian sports is estimated to be NOK 8 billion. When discussing the role of sport organizations in the integration process, the message is mixed. At one level, the representatives talk about the importance of giving ethnic minorities real influence in the sport organizations for example, by becoming board members. When asked specifically about Islamic guidelines for sport practice or cooperation with religious organizations, different opinions and experiences are expressed. Norway seems more reluctant to accept gender segregation as part of the sport and integration policy. One effect of the sport and integration discourse in Norway is a restrictive policy concerning the financing and establishment of minority clubs

No full textLe football dans le monde arabe est sans nul doute le loisir populaire masculin par excellence. Les garçons y jouent ; les jeunes hommes, bien souvent, le regardent… ou plutôt tentent de le regarder, car visionner les matchs à la télévision est parfois devenu une gageure ! Alors que, jusque dans les années 1990, l’essentiel de l’attention des fans était, dans nombre de pays, porté vers les championnats nationaux, leur regard s’est progressivement déporté vers les rencontres européennes et les compétitions internationales. L’intérêt pour les grands clubs arabes, parmi lesquels les plus titrés Al-Ahly et Zamalek au Caire, l’Espérance sportive de Tunis ou la Jeunesse sportive de Kabylie en Algérie, s’est quelque peu érodé, même s’il subsiste encore quelques groupes d’« ultras » inspirés par les « hooligans » européens des années 1980..
