Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. No full textA lista de hipóteses sobre a pós-modernidade é extensa. De forma geral, aqueles que a pensam como um período histórico e não apenas uma tendência estética indicam ao menos dois traços importantes: primeiro, a vitória do efêmero e da banalidade sobre a potência crítica e contestatória existente na modernidade e, segundo, a nova modulação ou mutação do capitalismo do período pós-guerra. Outra direção tomada pelo debate contemporâneo caracteriza nossos tempos pela emergência de um novo poder soberano, que faz do estado de exceção uma regra e transforma o campo de concentração em um paradigma de governo. Em um caso como no outro, as resistências foram submetidas ao silêncio ou colocadas em segundo plano. Para começar a enfrentar o problema, propõe-se a seguinte questão: como se dão as resistências no pós-moderno? Contudo, seria preciso acrescentar ao problema certa inflexão inspirada em Deleuze: como pensar uma resistência em si mesma, independente das categorias do negativo? Assim, foi preciso investigar a noção de resistência, especialmente em alguns escritos de Michel Foucault e Gilles Deleuze e, dessa maneira, averiguar suas contribuições, divergências e encontros em torno do conceito. Busca-se pensar as resistências em si mesmas, livrando-as de condicionantes externos que determinem sua dinâmica, observando sua potência afirmativa, sua força ativa e criadora. Concluímos que as resistências possuem, por um lado, aspectos desertores e micropolíticos que são primordiais em relação ao poder e, por outro, características conectivas e inventivasThe inventory of hypotheses about the post-modernity is extensive. Generally, those who think it like a historical period and not only an aesthetic tendency indicates at least two important features: first, the victory of the ephemeral and the banality against the critical power of the modernity and, second, the new modulation or mutation of the postwar capitalism. Another direction taken by contemporary debate characterizes our times by the emergence of a new sovereign power, which makes the state of emergency a rule and turns the concentration camp into to a paradigm of government. In both cases, the resistances were subjected to silence or placed in the background. To approach the problem we propose the following question: how the resistances occur in the post-modern times? However, we must add to the problem an inflection inspired by Deleuze: how to think a resistance in itself, apart of the categories of negative? It was necessary to investigate the notion of resistance, especially in the writings of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze and, in this way, determine his contributions, disagreements and meetings around the concept. We attempt to think the resistance in themselves, freeing them from exogenous factors that determine their dynamics and observing its affirmative power. FOUCAULT AND THE PRIMACY OF RESISTANCE
No full textÉ possível encontrar resistências no pensamento de Michel Foucault? Em meio à diversidade de suas ideias, teria ele nos deixado pistas para pensar o ato de resistir? Ao direcionar sua produção intelectual para os dispositivos de poder, ao invocar a figura do “intelectual específico” e, ainda, nos anos finais de sua vida, voltando-se para a constituição das subjetividades, Foucault nos provê formas singulares de conceber e operar resistências. Neste artigo, exploraremos duas direções das resistências no pensamento do filósofo. Em uma delas, as resistências são coextensivas ao campo do poder, guardando relação com o papel específico do intelectual e com a Filosofia. Em segundo lugar, indicamos que as resistências são pontos de partida e apoios fundamentais para as questões que Foucault enfrenta em seus trabalhos, tornando-se parte essencial de seu próprio modo de pesquisa.Is it possible to find resistance in the thought of Michel Foucault? Amid the diversity of his ideas, would he have left us clues to think the resisting act? By directing his intellectual production to power dispositfs, by invoking the figure of the "specific intellectual", and, also, in the later years of his life, then turning towards the constitution of subjectivities, Foucault provides us with unique ways to conceive and operate resistances. In this article we explore two directions of the resistances in the thought of the philosopher. One of them, the resistances coextend the field of power, keeping a special relationship with the specific role of the intellectual and with Philosophy. In second place, we indicate that the resistances are “starting points” or “key supports” for the issues that Foucault confronts in his work, becoming an essential part of your own research method
A colônia imaginada : Anchieta e as metamorfoses do imaginário medieval na América portuguesa (1534-1597)
Full text linkThe research presented hereinafter deals with Jesuit priest Jose de Anchieta"s (1534-1597) imaginary, by analyzing their medieval roots, as well as their metamorphoses in Portuguese America. Anchieta made use of medieval beastiaries, the demonology; directed earthly politics towards the spiritual world; believed he could count on heavenly support by means of hierophanies and chastisements; proclaimed the so-called fair war in God"s name for the conversion of the heathen; provided several people with a good death; wished for himself and called others to adhere to the ideal of martyrdom; defended the governor’s subordination to God and founded government authority on the power directly granted by the Deity. I have used as documentation some letters written by the Jesuit priest himself, comprising the period from 1554 to 1594, and the epic poem De Gestis Mendi de Saa, probably written within the period from 1560 to 1562 and published in Portugal by the first time in 1563. The main themes approached by the research were: the indian, the sacred, death, war, and tomism. Such themes have been set apart in an arbitrarian and didactic way during the explanation, but they surely intermingle and provide each other with sense, since Anchietan thought, as medieval thought likewise, would see no clear boundary between the purposes of politics and those of religion; would approach and deal with the worldly and the spiritual, by subordinating the former to the latter; would live and act on behalf of a sole, omnipresent, militarized God; and after all, would direct war, the government and the instant of death towards God.A pesquisa trata do imaginário do padre José de Anchieta (1534-1597), analisando suas raizes medievais, bem como sua metamorfoses na América portuguesa. Anchieta utilizou o bestiários medievais, demonologia; direcinou a políca terrena para o mundo espiritual;acrediou contar com a ajuda celeste através de hierofanias e flagelos; apregoou a guerra justa em nome de Deus e da conversão do infiel; provideniou uma boa morte para várias pessoas; desejou para si e declamou para os outros o ideal do martírio; defendeu a subordinaçõ o governante a Deus e fundamentou a autoridad do poder secular concedido diretamente pela Divindade. Utilizei como documentação algumas cartas escritas por jesuítas que abrangem o período de 1554 1594 e o poema épico de De Gestis Mendi de Saa, escrito provavlmente no período de 1560 a 1562 e publicado em Portugal pela primeira vez no ano de 1563. Os principais temas explorados pela pesquisa foram: o índio, o sagrado, a morte, a guerra e o tomismo. Temas separados de forma arbitária e didática na exposição, mas que se misturam e dão sentido um ao outro, pois o pensamento anchietano, como o medieval não via nítida entre os fins da política e da religião, aproximava e dialogava mundando com espiritual subordinando o primeiro ao último,; vivia e agia em nome de Deus único, presente, militrizado; enfin, direcionva a guerra, o governo e o momento da morte, para Deus
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. O des-lugar da pixação: uma escrita de resistência
Full text linkPara compreender melhor o aspecto resistente da escrita de pixação e salientar as tensões existentes entre discurso, poder e resistência, partimos do pressuposto de que o poder está em toda parte porque provém de todos os lugares, justamente por não ser uma instituição e nem uma estrutura, e sim uma situação estratégica complexa. Assim, como alguns discursos tentam controlar os indivíduos, existe também a luta pelo discurso (FOUCAULT, 2003). Um conjunto enorme de regras na sociedade rege os corpos e gera reações e contrarreações, criando vários cerceamentos: o muro protege do outro e a câmera protege o muro e o que está dentro dele. Há uma normatização, mas não uma normalização, afinal as pixações são formas de opor resistências a um discurso padrão e tentativas de inserir novas formações discursivas (FERNANDES, 2011). Se pixar conota recusa em aceitar determinados conceitos de valor, também reforça o ímpeto de estar em seu des-lugar o lugar errado por (in)direito. Da maneira em que aparece, a escrita política é também um mecanismo de desterritorializaçãoe um agenciamento coletivo, o que nos permite aproximar a pixação do conceito de literatura menor (DELEUZE; GUATTARI, 1977). Processos de subjetivação, corpos negros e cabelos crespos : estudantes negras em aliança
Full text linkThis research presents experiences of a school psychologist in meetings with students who participated in student groups at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES), Campus Linhares. Research purpose was to understand how some students’ struggles issues engender subjective production; understanding how students resist schooling body production and how they act by producing other ways of being together and inventing other ways of living in school; and this research also want to question how gender and race issues permeate the constitution of students’ subjectivity and school production. First of all we had meetings with IFES students from Campus Linhares, and written logbooks. Thus, the text is permeated by fragments of narratives from the stories of struggles, affections and relationships with bodies, and these narratives are linked with theoretical references, songs, poems and images. In this process, it was possible to see that alliance policies took place around demands for bodies to circulate in school. These struggles took place with own bodies, who took action as the means and ends of politics. Students created other ways of living together at school, and where there was silence around racist and sexist practices they occupied with their voices, lyrics and bodies. Finally, the research presents problematizations about race perception, and how it is engendered in Brazil, through the question of miscegenation, through some abolitionist movement stories and the movement against racism. The research intends to think about the brown ones power like an interlace, carries between the binary classifications. The research points out some considerations about racism in school, pointing out that the school institution, when functioning from the classificatory logic, meritocratic and excluding, operates a school necropolitics.Esta pesquisa apresenta experimentações de uma psicóloga escolar em encontros com estudantes que participaram de coletivos estudantis no Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo (IFES), campus Linhares. A intenção da pesquisa foi entender de que maneira as questões das lutas estudantis engendram produção subjetiva; compreender como os estudantes resistem à produção de um corpo escolarizado e como atuam produzindo outras formas de estarem juntos e inventarem outros modos de existir na escola; e, ainda, problematizar como as questões de gênero e raça perpassam a constituição da subjetividade de estudantes e a produção da escola. Para isso, construímos encontros com estudantes do IFES, campus Linhares, e escritas em diários de bordo. Assim, o texto é permeado por fragmentos de narrativas das histórias de lutas, afetos e relações com os corpos, e essas narrativas vão se costurando com referências teóricas, músicas, poemas e imagens. Nesse processo, foi possível perceber que as políticas de aliança aconteceram em torno de reivindicações para que os corpos pudessem circular na escola. Essas lutas aconteceram com os próprios corpos, que entraram em ação como os meios e os fins da política. Os estudantes criaram outras formas de habitar a escola juntos, e onde havia silêncio em torno de práticas racistas e sexistas eles passaram a ocupar com suas vozes, letras e corpos. Por fim, a pesquisa apresenta problematizações em torno da noção de raça, e como está se engendra no Brasil, passando pela questão da mestiçagem, por algumas histórias do movimento abolicionista e do movimento de luta contra o racismo; propondo pensar na potência que o pardo, como um entrelugar, carrega em meio às classificações binárias. A pesquisa assinala algumas considerações sobre racismo na escola, apontando que a instituição escolar, quando funciona a partir da lógica classificatória, meritocrática e excludente, opera uma necropolítica escolar
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
