Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Inclusão de alunos surdos na educação profissional e tecnológica: a comunicação em Libras entre discentes ouvintes e discentes surdos do ensino médio integrado do IFAM/CMC
Get PDFThis master's research arose during my experience as a professor in the teacher training
programs at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Amazonas
(IFAM), Manaus Centro Campus (CMC), when I encountered the inclusion of deaf students
regarding the communication that occurred between deaf students and hearing students at the
school. This experience was further shaped by the doubts and concerns expressed by fellow
educators and also by integrated high school teachers. Thus, the objective of this investigation
was to understand how communication in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) occurs between
hearing students and deaf students in the integrated high school at IFAM CMC. The research
is structured into three chapters with the following sections: Chapter 1. Special education and
the inclusion of people with disabilities, which contains three subsections: 2.1 - Legal
foundations for the inclusion of people with disabilities; 2.2 - Paradigms for the inclusion of
people with disabilities; and 2.3 - The inclusion of students with disabilities in the school
environment. Chapter 2. Specific education for deaf students in professional and technological
education, divided into three subsections: 3.1 - Legal foundations concerning Brazilian Sign
Language (Libras); 3.2 - Communicational aspects of Libras; and 3.3 - Myths and curiosities
about Libras. Chapter 3. The use of assistive technology for the deaf, including subsection 4.1
- Applications or tools for translation and interpretation to facilitate communication, which
unfolds into seven tertiary sections: 4.1.1 – Hand Talk; 4.1.2 – Primeira Mão; 4.1.3 – Instant
transcription; 4.1.4 – AVA: valuing communication; 4.1.5 – V Libras; 4.1.6 – Communication
Mediation Center (CIC); and 4.1.7 – The ICOM. To achieve this, we chose to conduct a
qualitative study through a case study at the Federal Institute of Amazonas, Manaus Centro
Campus (IFAM CMC). The target population for this investigation will be the deaf students
of the integrated high school, their teachers, educators, and Libras interpreters. The data
collection instruments we will use include interviews, observation, questionnaires, and field
diaries. For data analysis, we will use Discursive Textual Analysis (ATD). The outcome of
this research will be an Educational Product - a Manual of Communication in Libras: Eyes
that see, hands that speak. The proposal is to present to the school community of the regular
education system a Libras manual with basic notions and tips on how to communicate with
deaf students, aiming to facilitate communication among hearing students, deaf students,
teachers of deaf students, and educators who maintain contact with everyone. Additionally, it
will serve as support to facilitate the school inclusion of deaf students, as the Educational
Product can be utilized in various sectors of the institution, contributing to basic
communicational accessibility between the personnel in the sector and the deaf student.A presente pesquisa de mestrado surgiu durante minha vivência como professor das
licenciaturas no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Amazonas (IFAM),
Campus Manaus Centro (CMC), ao me deparar com a inclusão de alunos surdos no que diz
respeito a comunicação que acontecia entre os discentes surdos com os discentes ouvintes na
escola e ao compartilhar dúvidas e preocupações externadas por colegas pedagogas e também
professores do ensino médio integrado. Assim, o objetivo da investigação foi de que forma
acontece a comunicação em Libras entre os discentes ouvintes e os discentes surdos do ensino
médio integrado do IFAM CMC? A pesquisa está delineada em três capítulos com os
seguintes itens: capitulo 1. A educação especial e a inclusão das pessoas com deficiência e,
esse capítulo possui 3 subseções com os temas; 2.1 - Fundamentos legais para a inclusão das
pessoas com deficiência. 2.2 - Paradigmas para a inclusão das pessoas com deficiência e 2.3 -
A inclusão dos alunos com deficiência em ambiente escolar. Capítulo 2. Educação específica
para alunos surdos na educação profissional e tecnológica e dividido em 3 subseções com os
temas. 3.1 - Fundamentos legais sobre a Língua Brasileira de Sinais – Libras; 3.2 - Aspectos
comunicacionais da Libras e 3.3 - Mitos e curiosidades a respeito da Libras. Capítulo 3. O uso
de tecnologia assistiva para surdos com a subseção 4.1 - Aplicativos ou ferramentas para
tradução e interpretação para facilitar a comunicação que se desdobra em 7 seções terciarias:
4.1.1 – Hand Talk; 4.1.2 – Primeira mão; 4.1.3 – Transcrição instantânea; 4.1.4 – AVA:
valorizando a comunicação; 4.1.5 – V Libras; 4.1.6 – Central de Intermediação de
Comunicação (CIC) e 4.1.7 – O ICOM. Para isso, escolhemos realizar um estudo de
abordagem qualitativa por meio de uma pesquisa de estudo de caso a ser realizado no Instituto
Federal do Amazonas Campus Manaus Centro (IFAM CMC) e o público a ser investigado
serão os alunos surdos do ensino médio integrado seus professores, pedagogos e intérpretes de
Libras. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados que utilizaremos serão às entrevistas, observação,
questionário e diário de campo. Para a análise dos dados, recorremos à ATD (Análise Textual
Discursiva). O desdobramento desta pesquisa será o Produto Educacional - Manual de
comunicação em Libras: olhos que veem, mãos que falam, cuja proposta será apresentar à
comunidade escolar do sistema regular de ensino, um manual de Libras com as noções básicas
e dicas de como se comunicar com alunos surdos, isto é, para facilitar a comunicação entre os
discentes ouvintes, discentes surdos, professores dos alunos surdos e das pedagogas que
mantêm o contato com todos. E ainda, ser usado como suporte para facilitar a inclusão escolar
dos alunos surdos, pois, o P.E poderá ser utilizado nos mais variados setores da instituição,
contribuindo com a acessibilidade comunicacional ao nível básico entre as pessoas do setor
com o aluno surdo
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
