The article is a commentary on Teologia politica e diritto by Geminello Preterossi, highlighting its methodological quality and contribution to understanding the secularization of politics. Since the work demonstrates how political theology remains an inextinguishable element of the essence of power, an effort has been made to emphasize the tension between epistemological approaches and political materialism in the context of the social contract, as well as between legal rationalization and the foundational myth of the State. Through an analysis of Roman kingship on one hand and the sterile technicism of contemporary administrative power on the other, Preterossi is reinterpreted as an author capable of transcending the legal nihilism of postmodernity
Attraverso il pensiero critico di Filiberto Menna: il riordino della Biblioteca della Fondazione
This article reports the experience of the reorganization and inventorying of the library of the Filiberto and Bianca Menna Foundation - Center for the Study of Contemporary Art, located at the former Casa del Combattente in Salerno. The personal collection of Filiberto Menna, art critic and politically active intellectual, constitutes the main nucleus of the Foundation, established in 1989 following his death. The recent reorganization, which took place in 2024, represents an opportunity to include this important book collection in the broad debate regarding ‘author libraries’. First of all, an analysis of the contents of the forty shelves that make up the library was conducted, organizing a schematic work in which, for each shelf, the location and bibliographic information of each book unit are reported. The analysis of the material allowed us to restore Filiberto Menna’s interests, the creation and evolution of his critical thinking. The notes of ownership and the handwritten annotations present in the volumes outline an attentive reader, who loved to note down the suggestions that the texts aroused in him. Finally, an in depth analysis is reported regarding the notes of ownership and the dedications present within the book units, reported in the “Notes” section of the inventory work. The following article also presents the complete list of dedications in the appendix.
José Filiberto Portillo: Qur’an, Poetry and Exile in the Court of Isabel II
This chapter deals with a document that we will refer to as “The Queen’s Qur’an,” whose existence was brought to our attention by Fernando Bouza, to whom we are deeply grateful. “The Queen’s Qur’an”¹ is a unique document: as we shall see when we describe it further along, it comprises multiple parts, the most important of which is, without a doubt, the translation in verse of various suras of the Qur’an. Its author is Filiberto Portillo, who wrote the text in Paris in 1850, and addressed it to the mother of Isabel II, Queen Mother María Cristina de Borbón de las Dos Sicilias. To better understand the circumstances which gave rise to this document, we will begin by setting out some of the most important events in the life of Filiberto Portillo, whose fate was tied up with the fraught events of the nineteenth-century Spanish political sphere. Portillo was a military man and minister who was caught up in corruption scandals,
exiled, nearly married an infanta, and, finally, succumbed to mental illness. “The Queen’s Qur’an” was written at a critical juncture in his life and, as we will see, constitutes a very personal take on certain cultural elements of the period’s liberal movement. This article has been made possible by the European Research Council Synergy Grant: “The European Qur’an: Islamic Scripture in European Culture and Religion, 1150–1850,” (Grant Agreement 810141-EuQu), coord. and PI: Mercedes García-Arenal; and “Orientalismo y verdad: la influencia de la erudición oriental en el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico en la España Moderna” (FFI2017–86538-P), PIs: Fernando Rodríguez Mediano and Mercedes García-Arenal; in the framework of the CSIC Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform (PTI) “Social and Cultural History of the Mediterranean: Local Contexts, Global Dynamics” PTI MEDhis.Peer reviewe

Here, we have experimentally investigated the effects of F on phase equilibria of Fe-Mg-rich basalt. Our results show that fluorine has large effects on the liquidus temperature and the chemistry of crystallizing minerals. Compared to the F-free system, addition of ~2 wt.% F moves the olivine-pigeonite liquidus point down ~2 kbar and 95 °C (from 12 kbar, 1375 °C to 10 kbar, 1280 °C). With increasing fluorine concentrations, dramatically increases for both pyroxene and olivine, suggesting that fluorine in basaltic magmas complexes primarily with MgO. Complexing with MgO in the melt decreases its MgO activity, and forces the crystallizing minerals to greater Fe/Mg, and so increases . Models of basalt generation, where the magma is fluorine-rich, need to include the effect of not only water but fluorine on liquidus depression and minerals crystallizing/melting. Our results suggest that fluorine may significantly aid in the petrogenesis of silica-poor, alkali-rich magmas in the Earth and Mars. This work was supported by NASA MFR grant # NNX09AL25G to A.H. Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Endometrium Causing Paraneoplastic Retinopathy: Case Report and Review of the Literature
We reviewed the literature for cases in which gynecologic malignancies caused paraneoplastic retinopathy and ultimately led to blindness. Twenty-eight cases were derived from the literature, and one unique case is described from our institution. Of these 28 cases, 14 patients were diagnosed with endometrial cancer, 7 with ovarian cancer, 5 with cervical cancer, 1 fallopian tube cancer and 1 with concomitant endometrial and ovarian cancers. The average age of patients at the time of diagnosis was 64 years (range, 35–89 years). Typically, ocular manifestations antedate symptoms of the underlying carcinoma by 3–12 months. Information regarding the interval from visual symptoms to time of death is limited, but ranges from several months to several years. Our report is the first to document a clear cell carcinoma of the endometrium causing paraneoplastic retinopathy and is the first to review all gynecologic malignancies associated with visual paraneoplastic syndromes
A priori data-driven robustness guarantees on strategic deviations from generalised Nash equilibria
In this paper we focus on noncooperative games with uncertain constraints coupling the agents’ decisions. We consider a setting where bounded deviations of agents’ decisions from the equilibrium are possible, and uncertain constraints are inferred from data. Building upon recent advances in the so called scenario approach, we propose a randomised algorithm that returns a nominal equilibrium such that a pre-specified bound on the probability of violation for yet unseen constraints is satisfied for an entire region of admissible deviations surrounding it—thus supporting neighbourhoods of equilibria with probabilistic feasibility certificates. For the case in which the game admits a potential function, whose minimum coincides with the social welfare optimum of the population, the proposed algorithmic scheme opens the road to achieve a trade-off between the guaranteed feasibility levels of the region surrounding the nominal equilibrium, and its system-level efficiency. Detailed numerical simulations corroborate our theoretical results
