This dissertation focuses on the study of interactions between Literature, History and Psychoanalysis in the context of contemporary portuguese novel. Under the "Tetralogia Lusitana" by Almeida Faria composed of the novels A Paixão (1965), Cortes (1978), Lusitânia (1980) e Cavaleiro Andante (1983) we investigate how the most recent Portuguese History, which was marked by the processes before and after the Carnation Revolution, appears in these narratives in order to foster what Linda Hutcheon sees as historiographic metafiction. In this sense, we analyzed the issues contained in his work Poetics of Postmodernism (1991), which orientated us to think as Almeida Faria reinvents the Portuguese History in economy fictional of his novels. To deal with the relationship between Psychoanalysis and Tetralogia Lusitana, we use the thinking of Freud and scholars involved in psychoanalytic literary criticism to reflect how the parricide, the sign of death, mourning, melancholia, and dreams of characters can be read at the family level of the clan of Alentejo as an allegory of political events marked by the fall of Salazar. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the event of death of the father is the critical point where all speeches of the History and Psychoanalysis converge, from the actions of the characters that are far apart but can communicate among themselves, according to esearcher Lilian Jacoto (2005), through some kind of poetic of distances

Embracing incoherence: perspectives on the performance of Almeida Prado's fourteen nocturnes

    No full text
This dissertation lecture-recital delves into the interpretation of Almeida Prado's fourteen Nocturnes. Using a multidisciplinary approach that includes an investigation of the composer's output and musical philosophy, postmodernist ideology, comparison of currently available scores of the fourteen Nocturnes, and analysis of the composer's writing and use of borrowed material, this study evaluates the intersection between these categories to provide examples of a musical interpretation process that goes beyond reading the scores. The findings of this research indicate that Almeida Prado's attitude towards the performance of his works encourages performers to engage in a creative search for sound and emotional expression, rather than a literal interpretation of his writing. Furthermore, the currently available scores contain inaccuracies that require attention from performers and welcome possible new editions. Lastly, in accordance with postmodernist thought, Prado's borrowings and distortions of well-known source materials can be approached by the performer in contrasting manners. Overall, this dissertation lecture-recital makes a valuable contribution to the dissemination of Almeida Prado's music outside of Brazil, as well as to the interpretation of Prado's musical thought and the fourteen Nocturnes in particular. It provides insights and recommendations for performers and scholars of Almeida Prado's music, and highlights the significance of a multidisciplinary approach to musical interpretation.D. A
