Le rossignol mécanique. A propos des cinépoèmes de Pierre Alferi.

    No full text

International audienceIn Après vous (2010), Pierre Alferi stages a precarious community, the laws of the Market and experimenting alternative economies. Although rarely named, money is omnipresent - either by its lack (c.f. the squatters) or its deliberated rejection (c.f. the protagonist Ben), or by its power to destroy the social fabric by murders and kidnappings. Exceeding the detective genre declared on the front cover, this novel has recourse to the neutrality of the investigator to short-circuit any pathos or any utopian idealism and, by the rhetoric of the "deffect", imposes to the reader the reflexive urgency of a philosophico-economic fiction on the necessary exit from a capitalistic system submitted to the quite-monetar

    No full text
Pierre Alferi (1963), a poet and novelist who is known for the innovative nature of his texts, presents in Hors sol (2018) a post-apocalyptic world where only a tiny part of humanity has survived, in gondolas suspended in the stratosphere, while the rest has disappeared as a result of the many catastrophes caused by climate change. In contrast to traditional cli-fi, which is linked to popular genres such as thriller, this novel is strongly characterised by its concern for form: it presents a compilation of very heterogeneous texts, which are available online at a specific date in the early 22nd century. This amalgam of documents gives a fairly complete picture, not only of this post-apocalyptic world, but also of the causes of the exile in the sky. In this article, the study of dialogism (Bakhtin)—particularly the subversion of official discourses—and the polyphonic nature of the novel—its fragmentation and the way in which different texts are presented—will be proposed in order to demonstrate that Pierre Alferi uses juxtaposed fragments to create a nuanced image of the fictional universe, combining elements of science fiction with a commitment to addressing climate change

Combined Laser Surveying and Finite Element Modeling for The Structural Assessment of Masonry Structures at the Hierapolis Outer Bath Complex

    No full text
The outer bath remains at the complex of Hierapolis (Pamukkale, Turkey) are particularly in danger due to the damage they have accumulated in the past Centuries because of several seismic events [1]. In order to assess the present condition and to properly formulate hypotheses for the interventions, a combined laser surveying and finite element modelling procedure has been set up. In the present paper, the results of the laser survey are firstly described. The procedure is based on the use of Focus3D Faro® three-dimensional laser scanner for the acquisition, and Scene® software for the data management. The obtained point clouds have been analysed with the software 3DReshaper® to extrapolate the main features of the geometry. As a result of this first stage of the analysis, detailed plans and sections of the structure have been obtained, from which the geometry of almost each masonry block could be explicitly accounted for. In the second stage of the analysis, the geometry was converted to be used as the input of a finite element program. The finite element code iDiana® by TNO (The Netherlands) was used for the structural analysis thanks to its ability in representing the behaviour of the blocks interfaces. Different constitutive laws can be assigned to both the continuum blocks and the interfaces. In the present study, for the sake of simplicity, the blocks are considered linear elastic, while the interface have a combined constitutive law accounting for cracking-shear-crushing behaviour [2]. A detailed two-dimensional model of one of the main front has been built up, and several analyses performed starting from simple linear static analysis under the effect of dead loads, up to non-linear analyses accounting also for seismic effects. In particular, the in plane behaviour of the front subjected to equivalent seis- mic acceleration was analysed with a pushover analysis. Different possible interventions have been modelled, providing useful suggestion for the eventual adoption of any of the
